The Zebras
Officiating is a great time to look upon ourselves as role models. How we perform in a respective manner on the field, these young men may pick up on something and carry it from the game. I hope you all a great holiday season and may it be safe and free of any idiots on the roadways!

The penalty most is questioning is a penalty if a team does their set procedure consistently then on a fourth down they do something really quick and different. That is an intent to do one thing, draw someone over and they did. However, that is a rule and you cannot do it. The offials did get this right. Not sure about the PI calls. The WH tend to be nervous but that is typical at this time of year. One time the time came when the WH did not start the clock after an injury and was reminded to do so by a wing official. That happens..... NERVES...... Congrats

I ran into an official and he explained that the officials were not ready for this stage. I agree, he pointed out the interception, both feet were in, good in the NFL but not here? The other was the on-side kick and it appeared from his point that the kicking team was over the line nearly 2 yards. The PI was not there and the personal foul OOB on the same drive, very ? I was amazed that the head official had gray pants on, did not look the part. Most officials know, I did, when I called that you need to get new stuff to work this game. Some did, some did not and some stood out. Oh well, another year has gone and hope we all see each other again next season.

We were given memos last week to correct pa announcers for tactics such as this. Not sure why the officials in this contest did not do something about a statement that was a directive to them. As officials, this could have resulted in 15 yards against the home team. Typically we give a warning but when it is a direct toward officiating, I would question why they did not throw it.....?

Which official? Back judge or linesman if in fact it was on the visitor side. No names please.... I agree, if an official blows one, admit it, take the lump from the coach and go on with it. You cannot dwell over it or you will lose your focus in the game.

This was a statement following a timeout which was pointed in the wrong direction, that almost made a difference in the game? I can certainly understand the issue with the on-side kick issue, but I thought that was in your (russell) favor? If indeed Mason kicked the ball, Russell muffed it, whistle blown and Mason recovered, your favor. Due to the error of the IW, re-kick and someone said Mason recovered that one, not sure why you and everyone else feels that this officials mistake was deciding point in the game. I looked up the crew, solid crew on the game. Guess what, MNF had a IW just this past Monday. It happens, unfortunately it did in this game. I am sure this official and the crew felt horrible but it does happen.

The one thing to watch if you follow officiating, watch both wing guys on the sideline. If they come in each time and appears to be squared up, they got it. Some fans fail to realize if a runner gets stopped at the 20 and lands on three yards back from the tackle, the spot is on the 20. Officials will give them their forward progress, ball location when the knee hits. The key, watch both side guys, if they are on opposite lines spotting the ball, they are having differences in their spot. It's all about forward progress.

You mean a team was penalized 15 yards in a football game due to a FAN? Noramally, you are going to have the fan taken out of game area but penalize a team for it?

opposite side, home side or visitor? Most on-side kicks usuall go to their team side of the field. If this was the case, Mason visitors, you had the back judge and linesman near the play. How many flags did they throw? I seen in another forum, not many.

I bet that official who blew the IW was thanking GOD.... It's like when you question not punching the guy out at first for the 3rd out and the next guy puts one in the parking lot!!!!!!!!!!!! terrible feeling....

Was it a yellow flag or a white bean bag? Officials throw bean bag on first touching or muffs, in this case a muff. You cannot advance a muff. It sounds and some have mentioned it was IW and in this case, a re-kick. This is a terrible thing for an official, we all have them but they do come early in your career. I had one, maybe 2, early in my career a couple of decades ago. Those things could really turn a game around. That is the rule, what happened on the next kick?

Intentional Grounding Question
By no means did I ever think you were being negative toward the officials. I continue to support my explanation, now different philosophies are different which also could play a part in rules interp. I have called with other officials from other areas, 13th, 15th, 16th, NKY, CKY and L'ville, we all were on the same page for the most part. Now, experience will also play a role into officiating. The deeper you go into the play-offs, the more experience your crews will have. You can check your crews for your game around WED of each week. khsaa.org and click officials information, red tag, go to the bottom and click 2007 officials assignment, click the round and you will see them all listed. Remember the first round required a lot of officials, some first year and some vets.

Intentional Grounding Question
It is a foul. Was he in imminent danger of being sacked if he did not throw it in this manner? Was he trying to conserve time or preventing a sack? Judgment and it is a rule interp but it seems your explanation the rule was justified. Different regions do not have different interps, it all goes back knowing the rules and when to apply them.

I think it would be great. Not sure what WKU holds but the only game it would really hurt is the Big Private School Championship.

you should be a referee and here how you all treat us!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think a lot of fans from a lot of schools have poor taste. Now, there's some that are good people but the majority think, truly thinks that officials try and cheat them. We do know this, at times our families will travel to the game and they have to witness their husbands, fathers, or sons being screamed, cursed, and spoke to so negative, they ask why do we put up with it. Answer, we love the game and want to stay close to it. Honestly, I don't hear any of it unless I am at a game that I am not working. Everyone should just get along and practice good sportsmanship.

I am sure the tape will be reviewed and if indeed the player was ejected and allowed to play then was not reported by the officiating crew, someone will be answering questions. Officials have 24 hours to report to KHSAA an ejection. No, any of the five officials can eject a player and no one of the five can allow him to play during that game or the next game. It could be overturn by the KHSAA if the ejection was not justified for the next game.
