State football finals moving?

 

Relax Ohio fans. Stark County isn't going to lose the championships anytime soon.

 

In Kentucky, however, it appears that Bowling Green will be submitting a bid for the state football championships. KHSAA media relations director Butch Cope confirmed it this week. The University of Louisville, which will host the finals through 2008, has run into some scheduling problems with the Big East that make it impossible to play the championships in the standard Friday-Saturday setup. That might open the door for another city.

 

Bowling Green could host the finals at L.T. Smith Stadium on the campus of Western Kentucky University.

 

Again, this is by no means any kind of done deal. Bowling Green hasn't even submitted a bid yet. The city is just expected to. Lexington and Louisville also are expected to take part in the bidding process.

 

Thoughts?

 

Keeping it in Louisville or moving to Lexington would get my vote. Bowling Green is too far for my liking...

To me it should stay in Louisville, or rotate. Put Basketball In Louisville one year and football in Lexington and the next basketball in Lexington and football in Louisville. With the new basketball arena coming to Louisville that would be completely possible.

I think it would be great. Not sure what WKU holds but the only game it would really hurt is the Big Private School Championship.

It's Kentucky, the basketball state tourney is in Rupp, hopefully the new arena they are looking at in Lexington will be nicer and should stay there, and the football should be moved to Commonwealth too. Volleyball should be at memorial gym, girls basketball could be at memorial gym too. There is already way to many things moved to Western Kentucky. Lexington is in the middle and all sporting championships should be centered around it.

I say if Kentucky ever gets Field Turf then you could play all the finals at Commonwealth. Basketball needs to stay at Rupp. The State Football Championships would be awesome in Lexington. IMO

You guys are not suggesting that those WONDERFUL fans from the TOP PROGRAMS in the state and the ONLY REASON why KHSAA has any money, won't travel in the same quantities as they do now to Louisville. I thought a true fan would go to the moon to see their team in the state title game.:rolleyes::sssh:

Played at Western in '75 for the AAA title....thought it was NOT the best venue. Would have much rather had it at L'Ville or Lex!

Dude, I do think they have changed the stadium just a bit from 32 years ago.

Louisville is as close to middle of the state as your going to get .

 

Bell Co. Russell, Belfry etc are looking at a 8 hour trip......no way

Bunch of whiners, girls basketball has been traveling to Bowling Green this whole millenium. Trust me I definitely know the route there.:thumb::sssh:
