Bell Co. Russell, Belfry etc are looking at a 8 hour trip......no way

It takes about 1 1/2 hours by car to get from Bowling Green to Somerset, and about that far to get from Somerset to Pineville. I'll allow an extra half-hour each way for buses, but that still only makes BellCo to BG a 4-hour trip.

 

It's probably about two hours from London to Bowling Green, and probably three from London to S. Williamson.

 

From Russell to Lexington it's probably about 2-2 1/2 hours, then another 2 1/2-3 hours from Lex to BG.

 

I realize it's a long trip, but let's not make it out to be more than what it is. And folks in WKy have similar drive times to make it to Lex.

As for the first paragraph, you know better than that. Just saying the casual fan will go to a state football finals before they would go to the state girl's basketball finals, in 'their' respective sports. For the most part, the people that attend the girl's tournament will if it's in Alaska, IMO.

 

When Mrs. Richey (Walz) was making the trip on an annual basis as a player, we were right behind her...

I don't go as much as I used to because it is in Bowling Green. That simple. Move it to Louisville and Lexington or the year it was in Frankfort, and I would be there a bunch with my daughter. Especially the evening sessions.

 

Heck put it in Frankfort and you are within an hour's drive from Lex, Louis and NKY. I think you pick up attendance tremendously.

 

I hope she makes that trip this year as a coach. That would be too cool.:thumb: Not a Highlands fan, but I am a Richey family fan. They are class acts.

 

And before someone tells me to get back to the topic, this argument about girls state tournament is for another thread.

I would assume the football finals are #2 in revenue to the Boys Sweet Sixteen for the KHSAA.....that being said, having the football finals in Bowling Green would cut out a lot of neutral fans traveling the the games, fans of the teams in the games are going to travel regardless.

 

EKU would be a great centralized location but I don't see that happening due to the university.......Personally, Lexington or Louisville are the best options.

I think it would be kind of fun to have finals in b-ball and football move back and forth from Louisville to Lexington and maybe on other big town.

And you will see a definite loss in revenue!

 

Don't know why because we have heard over and over and over and over how great the fans of the teams that always make it there are. So if they are that great, surely they are not that great because they are only making a 10 minute drive and would easly make the hour to hourandhalf drive from Louisville and the 4 hour drive from NKY.

Map Quest had Paducah to Louisville at 3 1/2.

NKY to Bowling Green is about 4.

 

So it seems the Bowling Green is probably as central part of the state for those in the East as Louisville is to those in the West.

By MapQuest it is a 5.5 hour trip and 288 miles.

 

In a bus I have made the trip and it is close to 7 hours add in stopping to eat.......

 

Its not selfish its common since, your punishing East Ky. teams.

 

Lets have it in Ashland, as I'm sure no one from Fulton City and Mayfield wouldn't care............ and East Ky. can raise 4 million dollars to add 10,000 seats, upgrade locker rooms and to put down FieldTurf in Putnam and there is plenty of accommodations, a nice mall, and Huntington 5 minutes away with plenty to do

Not to the fans in the Western state. Louisville is too far away for them.

 

You guys are not suggesting that those WONDERFUL fans from the TOP PROGRAMS in the state and the ONLY REASON why KHSAA has any money, won't travel in the same quantities as they do now to Louisville. I thought a true fan would go to the moon to see their team in the state title game.:rolleyes::sssh:

I wouldn't suggest it be in NKY any more than WKY. It should be somewhat centrally located. That's why Louisville or Lexington would work.

What other big town is there besides Louisville and Lexington; St. Louis, Indianapolis, Cincinnati and Nashville are not in the State of Kentucky. We need to keep it in the State. Dude, or should that be Dudette?

State Football finals, unless rotated yearly, should never be in the extreme Western or Eastern area of the state. A central location, that is capable of all the logistics, would be ideal and minimize any drive time.

 

Is that feasible, not sure.
