Has anyone seen, the WKU rendering of the proposed renovation?

 

It's beyond that point. Construction is in progress as we speak.

However, I can't see EKU letting the KHSAA use the facilities, even though the Colonels season would be over by then anyways and the size of the place would be perfect.

 

Isn't EKU natural grass? If so, no way they let the high school teams play 6 games there in 2 days. The whole field would have to be re-soded.

 

Didn't say it would ever happen, but it could be a candidate.

What makes this so tricky is the fact that you have perennial powers that all lie along Kentucky's extremities:

 

East-

Belfry 3 miles from WV border EKY

Russell- Located very close to WV and Ohio borders in NE KY

 

 

North-

Highlands, Beechwood, NewCath, CovCath- All located in the northernmost tip of the state

 

South-

Bell County- Located a handful of miles from Tennessee border in SE KY

 

West-

Mayfield- Wayyy down yonder in WKY...

Good one. :thumb: But I think that keeping everything where it is would just be fine. If you wanted to rotate the football championships every year that would be cool too, ONLY if UK got turf.

It would be crazy to move to WKU...It WILL hurt attendance. It actually makes sense to have ALL state championships played as close to the central part of the state as possible. Obviously the middle of the state benefits but that is not what it is about. It is about making the travel as light as possible on those who live on the outer reaches of the state. Louisville was obviously great. 3 hours more or less from the east & about the same from the west. Makes no sense to move to an outer border no matter which end of the state it would be.

Need to get an atlas so you can verify that WKU is not on an outer border. First and foremost, the finals need to be in a city that wants them. And shows it. Secondly, it has to be on artificial turf. And it needs to be at a facility that can guarantee future dates regardless of conference affiliation. There is much more to it than just where a particular group WANTS to play. And it has to be in a sight where all games can be played at same site. That's what the coaches say they want, so they can be like Sweet 16, etc. That narrows options. UK fdoesn't give a dang. UL can't control future dates, although they would like to. Murray and Morehead are obvious geographic extremes.

Everything except surface, as it is AstroPlay, almost the same as FieldTurf or SprintTurf and the stands are not bad, think a larger version of a high school stadium with stands on both sides

 

No parking at all, and while the stands are not bad the facilities under them, unless updated the past 3 years, are ancient, it needs painted and flat out cleaned, and updated bad as well as pretty small.

Houchens Food Stores give big bucks to sponsor the girls. If the other schools bids don't matchup, it will be in Bowling Green.

 

I don't know who Houchens Food is, Can you say Papa John????????????? Plus, high school football and girls basketball is apples and oranges. Not even fair to compare. When was the last time the casual basketball fan went to WKU to watch state when their team wasn't there. I know many that go to the Ville to watch other local teams (N. KY) since its convenient. Just a thought.

What city is close to where I-64 and I-65 meet? It's just south of Louisville, just north of Bowling Green and just west of Lexington. Seems like that's pretty close to the middle for everyone.

 

Not saying there's a venue there but maybe St. X and Trinity can chip in some of their funds and build a stadium for their southern based students...

The geographical center of Kentucky is Marion County, for what it's worth.

While we're talking about all that future stuff, maybe NKU can be tossed into the mix in about 3-5 years. That's the rumor that I heard. I have been told by a fairly reliable source that NKU has been looking at prospective spots to build their Football Stadium. I have seen the new basketball arena and its going to be amazing. Maybe that can host some Basketball. If Louisville and LEX and be in the mix, most of the Football teams that play would be within a few hours of northern kentucky. If they get a football team, a big enough stadium, I would love to see that. BTW, Northern Kentucky teams are closer to B-green OH than we are to Bgreen Kentucky. Is that nuts or what? Isn't Elizabethtown near the center of KY? Is there anything there? Nope. I have never been to Commonwealth Stadium. I guess that I could go there, but I may still wear my Brohm Jersey that got me jumped in the bathroom at the UC game.

Keep it in Louisville. There is just something about going to Louisville to the football finals. Just my personal opionion, but that and 50 cents will buy you a cup of coffee.

I would like to see them played in Lexington. But if they could not, then I would also say keep it in Lousiville.
