I think Louisville is about as close to a central location as you're going to get with a place that has top notch facilities. Lexington is no where near a central location.

I agree, although for personal reasons, I would love for UK to get field turf in Commonwealth and be able to have the finals there.

So it seems the Bowling Green is probably as central part of the state for those in the East as Louisville is to those in the West.

Since we're all arguing about central locations, and since football in Marion County seems to be on the uptick, let's pass the hat all across the state and put that new 10,000-seat stadium right here:

I think it is a bad idea to have any High School championship game, tournament, ect. at any High School facility. If it was feasible to have it at four college campuses that could handle the games, then I would have no problem.

I say bad because of the political cry that will come down on the KHSAA, and the schools that host. Even if the decisions were fairly made, cries of favortism, and worse are a possibility that I dont think an orginization that doesn't have the best of PR needs to deal with anytime soon.

Why is it silly? The facilities will be as good if not better for the participants. Money talks to the KHSAA and the city of Bowling Green puts a lot of sponsorship dollars into the KHSAA. Bowling Green already has the girls state basketball tournament along with the girls and boys state golf tournaments. If the cities of Louisvlle and/or Lexington want the football finals they need to out bid the city of BG. Otherwise, everyone in northern and eastern kentucky need to click on mapquest and find the best route to Bowling Green and Houchens Industries / LT Smith Stadium starting in 2009.

It takes about 1 1/2 hours by car to get from Bowling Green to Somerset, and about that far to get from Somerset to Pineville. I'll allow an extra half-hour each way for buses, but that still only makes BellCo to BG a 4-hour trip.

 

It's probably about two hours from London to Bowling Green, and probably three from London to S. Williamson.

 

From Russell to Lexington it's probably about 2-2 1/2 hours, then another 2 1/2-3 hours from Lex to BG.

I realize it's a long trip, but let's not make it out to be more than what it is. And folks in WKy have similar drive times to make it to Lex.

 

 

 

Thats pretty close. About 4 1/2 hours in a car without stopping from Russell to Bowling Green. Add another hour for Belfry or Pikeville.

The center of population in Kentucky is in Willisburg, KY in Washington County, about 20 miles north of Lebanon. Closest large population center would be Lexington, just 45 miles away. Bowling Green is almost 2 hours from the population center.
