Who and where is Cornerstone Christian and what players has Breathitt lost/added?

Breathitt definitely played a tougher opponent in game one, so it's hard to decide this winner. BUT, the Breathitt team I saw on Fri. still had a porous defense, and no depth. Too many players going both ways to beat a quality team, IMO. But is P'burg really that good?

Don't overlook Breathitt Co.

They're accurate. One of the opposing team's asst. coaches/statisticians charts pitches for the games. We have seen this kid 3 times this season, and each time the games have been run-ruled, and he has thrown 150-200 pitches each time(202 last game). I don't think the head coach has any idea of the possible damage he has done. Pre-season rules interpretation meetings usually address this problem. Unfortunately, we coaches are all on the honor system and are expected to adhere to the rules. You guys have listed some good ideas and thoughts on how to help address the problem. Next step?

Are the game times for the semis in the 14th region still as posted on KHSAA? There was some discussion about time changes if Jenkins won in the first round(and they did).

Who is responsible/acountable for keeping track of the number of pitches a pitcher throws during a game? I know the safety of the pitcher by the coach must always be first and foremost. But, in last night's 55th district game, Riverside's pitcher threw over 200 pitches in 4 1/2 innings!! Overhearing some of their parents, this has happened several times before. Should the umpires intervene during a game? Parents? School officials? Poor kid's arm has to be shot.

So, any new info on who actually are the head coaches at Powell and Morgan?

Breathitt has improved a bunch since earlier in the year. I don't think they start any seniors and only a couple of juniors. Also a few new asst. coaches who have helped a lot.

Some of the Florida schools in the Ft. Walton area use this tournament as a fund raising opportunity by hosting games at their facilities. I'm not sure if they charge the tournament organizers a rental fee for use of the fields. When we were there a few years ago, some of the Florida high schools were on Spring Break (not that they really needed one). A great tournament and some great fields.

The teacher/coach turnover at Grant Co. is unbelievable for a school this size.! The HS principal has made work conditions so bad and the morale of the staff is so low that very few want to stay. She definitely doesn't appreciate the efforts of the coaches and teachers. We have lost a lot of good people because of her. Something has to change and it should start at the top.

Thanks. I certainly understand. I have lots of stories and experiences to share on those issues but not the time or space. It takes time (and some good athletes) to build a successful program. When you begin to win and you start getting players to the next level, parents, athletes, and the community will begin to appreciate your hard work and dedication. Our baseball program always had more kids to go on to play college baseball than any other sport. So, the program began to promote itself. But, as I stated before, it takes time.

I don't think High School coaches can REQUIRE athletes to do anything during the offseason. In most schools your athletes are good in several sports. What happens when the football, basketball and baseball coaches all REQUIRE a kid to be at all the open gyms, weight room sessions, 7 on 7's, and baseball practices and games? Sharing athletes and cooperation with other coaches is a must. You can provide teams, help kids get on travelling teams, or legion teams and coach your days allowed. Those kids who love baseball will find a way to play, as well as do some of the other things. And most coaches in ANY sport will play the best player during his season. I don't think missing some off season events in any sport is gonna make you sit them. In my experience(24yrs), my philosophy was: It's their summer, let the kids and parents choose what they want to attend. Several parents over the years thanked me for that approach (and a lot of kids played baseball on summer teams). It worked for me.

I think Breathitt Co. has the returning talent to challenge Belfry and Russell in this part of the state.

Why do some teams play only one or two games while others more? Is this a tournament or just a showcase for area teams? From most of the posts, it sounds like some pretty good teams playing.

Who's in the Hazard Queeen City Classic tournament and is there a schedule available?

Do either have any returning starters to build around and why did Coach Turner leave Jackson City? Seems odd that you would leave a Head coaching position to be an asst.

What about Breathitt Co. or Jackson City? Where do they rate in the 14th?
