Scores from Fort Walton Beach

Featured Replies

I know there are a bunch of teams playing in FWB this week, and I wanted to start a thread for people putting up scores here are some of the scores I know:

Lexington Christian 10 - Northmont (OH) 9

Choctaw HS (FL) 13 - Lexington Christian 7

Lafayette 9 - Trigg County 6

Niceville (FL) 6 - Lafayette 3

Lafayette defeated Franklin-Simpson, but I don't have the score from that one. Lafayette's game with Corbin was cancelled, as was LCA's game with South Laurel.

LCA is scheduled to play Niceville today. Lafayette has a day off and is scheduled to play Glasgow tomorrow morning and Choctaw tomorrow evening.

Why go to florida and play a bunch of kentucky teams? I never got that.

Looks like some good games are being played. Good to see the KY teams are playing well. :thumb:

Most of the time when KY teams go to Florida, they are in tournaments. And sometimes there are more than one KY team in the same tournament. It's just how it falls.

Good vacation I guess too. Just feel like the kids would enjoy it more if they were say the only KY team in the thing.

Predicted high today in Lexington: 49

Predicted high today in Fort Walton Beach: 78 ;)

Seriously, a lot of times this gives you the ability to play teams you otherwise wouldn't get to play, even if they are from Kentucky. For example, Lafayette would typically play Heath while in Florida. (I don't think that Heath traveled there this year) Those games have been great games, with two teams that would have trouble playing each other during the regular season due to distance and district games. Lafayette's varsity schedule in Florida included 4 Kentucky teams, 2 Florida teams and 1 team from Georgia.

Good luck to the KY teams

I need a vacation. :D

Most of the really good HS teams go to Florida and play out of state teams. For example, Harrison used to go to FLA and play teams like Pensacola Catholic, Tate, Bay, and Rutherford High Schools. The only time that I can remember having a chance to play a Kentucky team (it didn't work out) while being out of state during spring break was in 1998. Both Harrison County and PRP flew out to L.A. to play in a spring break tournament... guess who met in the state final four that year.

LCA playing Niceville Fla. tonite #2 5A school in state . Play #1 5A school Pennsacola Pace tomorrow nite. Played no Ky teams but agree weather is great for baseball and spring break in general.

The Panhandle is looking good to have the #1 and #2 teams in 5A.

For the fun and just having a good time. It's got to be great to go down their and play baseball. The 2 greatest things Florida(the warm weather) and baseball.

The way I was always told, because the Florida HS season begins so early, many teams don't have available games under their season game limits.

And, with the first two weeks of the Ky season generally falling during a time when the weather is less than hospitable, teams can go to Fla. and get a full week's worth of games in to give players a chance to learn on the job and bond with their teammates.

We used to travel to Florida, in the late 70's and early '80's, to play. Got off the bus once and coach was talking, asked how many games we played, "None, this will be our first"....How many have you played, "we're 28-2 so far"....warm climates, does afford an advantage.
