Just wondering where everyone is going...I know that a lot of folks will be heading to Florida to play other Kentucky teams.

 

Harrison County, Johnson Central, and Whitley County are heading to the Hanahan Invitational Tournament. This is the same tourney the Breds played in and lost their only game in 1997.

In pool play Harrison goes up against:

Miami, Florida (this is the team that beat them in '97)

South Lakes, Virginia

St. Peters, New York

 

Johnson Central will play:

Westfield, Virginia

Stone Bridge, Virginia

Hanahan, South Carolina

 

Whitley County will play:

McLean, Virginia

James Island, South Carolina

Edisto, South Carolina

 

This years tourney has 40 teams in it...

15 from South Carolina

9 from Virginia

4 from New York

3 from Kentucky

3 from Tennessee

2 from Florida

2 from Georgia

1 from Maryland

1 from Washington, D.C.

Looks like Ryle, Cov Cath and Tates Creek are in the Tates Creek Tourney.

 

Any one know of any other schools in that tournment?

East Carter went to Hanahan SC last year. It is a beautiful facility and a beautiful area. Coach Mitchell at Hanahan is a first class individual.

Scott (Covington) will be be going to the Foothills Tournament @ East Carter high school. Never been there before and hopefully this will help Scott determine where they stand with the other teams of KY.

Also, remember playing on Coastal Carolina's field before they were good. Great memories.

I don't see it being a tourney to measure up how these teams will fair in regular season play, seems to me like a sub par tourney.

No disrespect intended, but I can't see any HS Baseball Tournament being sub-par, unless organized poorly. Any opportunity for teams of different areas, to compete is good for everyone.

 

If competition is equal, than the tournament field will be competitive and balanced. If teams are down, then again the field will be balanced. If 1-2 teams, are clearly much better, than the remaining teams have a gauge for what is needed to improve.

 

Tourism will be helped, if lodging overnight is required. Ticket and concession revenue, will be a plus for the host school. Records aside, any time teams can compete against other schools, from out of the area....only good will result.

I always enjoyed the Foothills Tournament. The school does an outstanding job of bringing teams with solid resume's, and the atmosphere there was always one of my favorites.

No need to apologize and I would presume, that its either a "round-robin" format or "double-elimination", which means that teams might be over-matched on paper but playing against solid, well coached teams, with depth....should help a team realize their weaknesses and prepare for the remaining season, along with District play.

 

I'm a firm believer, in playing equal or better competition. I would rather face teams, with outstanding pitching, hitting and strong up the middle, on a weekly basis. Most tournaments anymore, are a 3 game minimum and depending on match-ups, pitching could work out.
