This will be both teams first real gauge of what they're bringing this year...

When these two teams play, it's usually a VERY entertaining game !!

All in all, the past two or three season I feel Pburg has been about 2-3 TD's better than Breathitt... this year that gap has closed with the return of the talent the Bobcats have..I still feel Pburg is about a TD better, but this game is being played on that Riverbank in Jackson...

Breathitt 33

Pburg 28

I don't know enough about either team to make anything more than a guess. I think Breathitt will win...a close one if P'burg is as good as I expect. In any case, it should be a good game for both teams. It should give both teams a chance to see what they have against tough competition and it should give everyone involved an idea of what kind of team they have, what their potential is and what they need to improve on. I'm looking forward to it...I always love to see Breathitt play P'burg, Belfry and Middlesboro.

I really dont see this a close game,Breathitt Co. Bobcats has all the pieces of the game and will be ready for the Blackcats, should have the riverbank rocking and the Canon Firing so be ready to hear it a lot,Jamon will have plenty Gun Powder,so will the Bobcats,Come out and watch a Great game, hope to see you there.... Go Bobcats....

Blackcats should want this one.

Many Bobcat fans held a similar sentiment a few years ago in round 2 of the playoffs before P'burg came to Jackson and blasted us. I hope you're right, but I wouldn't overlook the Black Cats...it sounds like they've got a pretty good team this season and they're coming off a 68-14 trouncing of Betsy Layne.

I'm anxious to watch this game. It should give us a much better idea of what Breathitt has than the opener against Madison Southern. Plus, P'burg is a great opponent to bring in for the Honey Bowl.

Breathitt definitely played a tougher opponent in game one, so it's hard to decide this winner. BUT, the Breathitt team I saw on Fri. still had a porous defense, and no depth. Too many players going both ways to beat a quality team, IMO. But is P'burg really that good?

In games vs. Breathitt Co., Prestonsburg hasn't been seen as the "favorite" to win for many, many years. Yet on the field, the Blackcats have won 2 of 3 from the Bobcats since 2000.

I don't know if P-burg is habitually overlooked, or Breathitt habitually over-rated in games between the two... :sssh:

Looking forward to Friday night... :thumb:

But is P'burg really that good?

Good question...and I don't have an answer.

The game vs. Betsy Layne can be completely ignored in judging the Blackcats.

On defense: The front is very quick and gang tackles well. Size is somewhat less than last year. The secondary has good athletes, but relatively inexperienced. If Breathitt is effective with the pass, P-burg could get burned downfield.

On offense: Returning experience at QB and RB. The offensive line is smaller, but quicker. The offense will emphasize speed-oriented running (quick-pitch, sprints, jet sweep). Very inexperienced at WR. If Breathitt's defensive front doesn't have good speed, P-burg will turn the corner all night.

Hey OneIJoe, haven't seen you in any of the Belfry threads this year. Where ya been?

I like Breathitt by a TD in this one.

Breathitt - 28

Pburg - 21

I think # 25 Rusty Herald will have his way this Friday Night with P-Burgs defenders. Rusty Herald 5 catches for 198 yards...3 touchdowns....THat is if Colby Fugate will pass him the ball....

Read the "Everything a Rookie" thread and it will answer, any questions.

P-burg will take this one 21-19 over the Bobcats.

Just going solely from watching Pburg vs. Belfry last year, I will hit on what I felt was the Blackcat's weaknesses and strenghts. You can tell me what is different or the same since last season.

STRENGTHS

- LB play and TE play. The Blackcats most impressed me with their big LB's and TE's... on defense they filled gaps really well and also covered ground nicely against the pass. The TE did a good job of sealing the corner and stretching out their blocks when Pburg ran outside.

- Tackling. For the most part, the Blackcats would hit you and once they did they would lock up and gang tackle.

- RB/FB Position. The Blackcats improved immensely at this posiiton as the season wore on. With Craynon and Setser back another year, I can only imagine this perennial strength will no doubt prove that way again.

- Special Teams- solid kicking game, above average punting ability, solid kick return game, and good kick coverage with big hitters.

WEAKNESSES

-SPEED. Now I will say that the Blackcats overall team speed was pretty daggone good, especially on the DL, but when it came to the skill positions the Blackcats really lacked the ability to sustain big play ability. The most evident position to me was at the WR. Usually Pburg has two or more guys that can take over the game (think Nick Jamerson recently), but lasts eaosn it appeared Pburg lacked the ability to get open.

-OFFENSIVE LINE. I have to judge by Belfry games, so my perception may be askew because the Pirates were very solid up front. But, it seemed Belfry's Front 7 had complete control in both games and were 2 steps quicker getting to the play than Pburg.

-D LINE ENDURANCE- In both Belfry games Pburg hung tough with Belfry in the first half, but come second half when that wishbone started wearing on them, the Pburg D-line progressively started getting knocked off the LOS more and more. At this point it seemed Derossett tried to overcompensate by sending more heat from the LB's and pinching his corners more, and that's when Belfry burnt them with the pass.

Now Oneijoe, have you forgot about the games Breathitt's won, like 2002,but hey I do think they have a good Coach at P'burg Blackcats and usually have lots of good athletes, its should be a great game, and i will tell you Breathitt Co.is on another up swing in it program, like i have said before Breathitt Co.Bobcats have all the pieces togeather this year and for a few years down the road and will have a good chance at playing at the pizza stadium for sure, but we Bobcats fan expect them to win each time they take the field, and so do the young athletes that play for Coach Holcomb and his staff we are proud of all of them win or loose....I have already said Breathitt Co. Bobcats will win on Riverbank and Canon man Jamon will be blasting for sure, should be a test game for both teams come out and enjoy....Go Bobcats....
