I believe it IS part of a coach's job, to help his athletes who might be potential college players. Many parents are completely lost and overwhelmed by the process. But the tough part for a coach is to evaluate a player's ability to make a referral. Incorrect evaluations and inaccurate assessments to colleges will only damage the reputation and working relationship a coach may have with schools. It's a tough call. My experience has been: once you make a right recommendation, recruiters will value your opinion.

I'm relatively new to Ky. baseball. Is there a limit to how many players from a school can be on a team? Does KHSAA govern this activity/off season? I'm all for a kid to get all the baseball he can. Just not sure of the particulars.

I thought Noble was the coach at Breathitt, not Arch Turner. If Salyers is elgible at Breathitt and wants to play there, he should be there.

Question? If 80% of those responding favored a 4 week dead period, then why is it only 2 weeks in length?

I understand Noble just coming out for football, but what's Ritchie's excuse? Kind of a slap in the face to all who HAVE been there for all the hard work, IMO. This is two years in a row that he has conveniently waited 'till the last minute to show up.

Agreed! Owsley should terminate his contract, if possible, and move on. Most coaches expect loyalty and committment from their players. What about his? Let him go to wherever he wants. I wouldn't want him back now.

Maybe Breathitt hasn't offered the job yet. Going by previous posts, it's possible that they may be undecided if he's who they want. Noble could be in trouble if BOTH schools moved on without him. I wouldn't be surprised. What a mess this Supt. has created.

Good points. As an outside observer, I wonder why the people/fans of Breathitt Co. continue to allow your Supt. and his flunkies to keep control? I understand there is a certain amount of school politics that goes on in most systems but, to allow politicians disguised as educators to constantly undermine your athletic program should be unacceptable. If you ignore it, nothing will change.

Is this the way it works at Breathitt? Parents, Supt., and players dictating who or where they play? Whatever happened to coaches making those decisions? No wonder they can't keep a coach.

Sounds like the Supt. likes to meddle in the basketball program. If he wants to have all that input, why doesn't he just coach them? Has he ever played or coached at any level?

There's a partial schedule on KHSAA web site. I can't believe Holcomb doesn't have 10 games yet.

Both school boards/supts. should remove their teams from the Regional Tournament. What a discrace!

If Estill doesn't win the 14th Region, it would be surprising. I've seen all the teams play and they are the deepest and the best. IMO

I think that's the most innings he has pitched in a game all season. Not sure why. Good luck to both teams in the District and the 14th Region. Either team can be a dangerous opponent if they're overlooked.

Looked like their OFs panicked and threw to the wrong base at least 3 times in the 7th inning. Ritchie looked good for Breathitt in relief.

Sounds similar to the start Powell had @ Breathitt. However, they left their pitcher in for a few innings. The walks, plus a few timely hits by Breathitt, put the Pirates behind and never could catch up.

Who pitched for Lee Co.?

Probably a little of both. Breathitt is capable of playing well at times and Powell didn't play great. That said, both teams kicked it around and walked bunches.

Surprising win for Jackson. Who were the pitchers in this one? Could JBS have been looking past the Tigers?

I think they're the favorite in the 14th also but, run-ruling this sorry bunch (14-27 overall record) hasn't done much to prepare them for the good teams they will face.

You're correct, it IS early and things could change BUT, Breathitt won 2-3 last year with Jackson. Also, the Bobcats return all starters from '07, and playing only one senior this year, and won with their #2 or #3 pitcher on Tues. Which doesn't guarantee anything by the time they meet again! LOL

I thought Hazard and Breathitt were working on a game for 2008 season.
