Breathitt's Problems Worsen

Featured Replies

Both Fugate boys have left the team. It's so very frustrating to not be able to sustain a stable program in Breathitt Boys Basketball. Changes in administration and different connections and pressures end up gutting us every 3 years or so. They should have left Baker alone, he had resurected the program and had it moving toward the top. But ( change in administration)some were determined to see him gone and Coach Hall came along. Two great years then a rebuilding season (and a change in administration) and they sent him packing. They should have left him in place. It's a mess really, attendence is way off and I 'm not sure they will get out of the district. Sad deal for everyone concerned.

Wow! Its seems that the Bobcats are coming apart at the seams. I hope they get everything back together before its to late. This was a very talented bunch of kids and could of went a long way.

Talent can only take you so far. The big word is there committment among all involved.

Baker did a great job up there but like you said they were not happy and the politics got involved....see ya, but hey we are very happy with his work and results here at Whiltey.

How many players have Breathitt lost from the start of the season for quiting to lost to injury?

Justin Hollan quit the team before the last game of the WYMT. The coaches got him back. Arron "bull" combs also quit. Coach Banks will be lucky to make it threw this year. To many people have their noises where they dont belong. They wanted my grandfather to coach when they got rid of Hall. He was smart and turned them down. There is no way that you can coach a team when all the administration wants is to tell you how to coach and who you can and cant play.

That makes it rough on the kids and faithful parents when the administration involves politics over best judgment for the kids. Hopefully whoever or whatevere the problem is will turnaround before the end of the season and not be a factor in the years to come.

I know Salyers went to the City School and Noble went to Owsley, both choosing to set out a year. Combs quit during the season, now the Fugate Brothers have hung it up. So that's 5 that I know of. I really don't think it's a committment issue as was stated. They have kid factions, parent factions, administration factions and fan factions, and someone, the coach IMO has to somehow bring everyone together for the sport and the school. It's a long way from being there.

If this is true it should help the team IMO. Let the players that want to play basketball play, and the football players stay with football.I agree that the admins. should stay out of Coach Banks way and let him coach the team.

Not sure how losing 3 starters, Noble and the two brothers, will somehow help the team but I suppose time will tell. I don't think it's a football issue either. Those boys sure didn't seem to have any issues playing for Holcomb.

This is so true. When the administrators forget why they are in the business of education\- students not politics; this happens.

Arch Turner is involved with everything that deals with sports. If he knows your parents and are friends with him youll get some playing time. I think that the Fugate boys did the right thing.

Good Ole Breathitt County Politics at it's BEST!
