Breathitt's Problems Worsen

Featured Replies

It was a huge mistake when they fired Coach Hall. He had two great years then one rebuilding year. With a small school such as Breathitt, you cant count on win after win every year. Sometimes things go south and thats when the admin should be behind a coach instead of throwning them out.

Not sure how losing 3 starters, Noble and the two brothers, will somehow help the team but I suppose time will tell. I don't think it's a football issue either. Those boys sure didn't seem to have any issues playing for Holcomb.

THats because their football players 1st.,they have young players that I think are better basketball players if given egual playing time.

That (down year) just made it easier for the new administration to make a chnage. He could have had another good year and they would have still put their guy in. Heck, they let Coach Denny go after taking Breathitt to state in '96. Change in administration.

This is so true. When the administrators forget why they are in the business of education\- students not politics; this happens.

Is that why the Owls have had so many coaches in the last 5 years

Better then Channing Fugate? Or Colby for that matter. You couldn't be more wrong IMO. But time will definately tell. Who are these talented youngsters?

IMO yes

Looks like the door is open for young players to step for the Bobcats.

There are different factors, for each coach that left during the past 5 years, as to why they left. All of the coaches, except one, left for their own reasons, such as bigger and better job opportunities. Never has an administrator at Owsley told a coach who to play and how much to play them.

This is a similar case in Pendleton County. I just wonder why kids are quiting like they are my guess is there proably not focused and the coach is making it so that only the ones who have heart stay on the team. Has anybody thought of standing up for these coaches I mean almost everyone of you have said I like this coach or this one.

Coaches come and they go....when you talk about the love of the game and the countless hours a coach dedicates to his team it is apparant that either

1. administrators are not equal to work with/for from a coaching perspective while some are more athletic minded and understand all factors while others it pains to be around any sport and who want to maintain total control within the school or 2. sometimes apparant better opportunities come around that make the move from one job easier than staying. Politics( that is what we call things that don't go the way we think it should) is directly involved in every school in the state which often adds another element to the whole coaching senerio...being able to work with the administrators within a school district.

Coaching is a tough job!

Ha, your definition of "politics" doesn't fit in Breathitt County I'm afraid.

The politics in Breathitt are a whole different bread thatn anywhere else.

I heard the kids who have quit did so because of Coach Banks, not the administration. The superintendent was the one who put Banks in as Head Coach (because of political connections).

How many players does this leave Breathitt with?

There was not a change in adminstration at Owsley during those 5 years.
