Well, he's a sophomore and wasn't ready to start with the kids they had available. The last kids that hung it up were starters so I don't get your point as far as that goes. But.... he'll probably start now I guess and Breathitt will continue their desent because they are not putting their best players on the floor (because they have left). The overall point is, there is something bad wrong with the basketball program and it involves the whole setup from the Superintendent down. I wouldn't be too judgemental of other kids if I were you, lots can happen in two years.

I feel that the best players do not always make for the best team. Sometimes the kids that really want to play and show alot of heart and emotion for the game make the best team. Especially if these kids have a good chemistry and enjoying playing with their teammates. Just my opinion.

A coach is responsible for a lot of the things that go on with a team, but I think they are limited in what they can do as far as kids having heart and emotion. As far as chemistry goes, it probably comes down to putting the right combinations on the floor at the right time, but who knows what 16 and 17 year old kids are thinking. Some kids just don't bond together or even enjoy playing together and that makes it hard to have team chemistry. I really don't know the answer to building chemistry, but I think it starts with kids that can enjoy being around their teammates on and off the floor.

I thought they were playing pretty well last week, when they played South Laurel without Hollan, then they went to the WYMT and got embarassed by Pikeville. Don't know what happened in that one. The wheels just started to fall off the wagon, and now it seems like they barely have a wagon left. Things have just snowballed the last week or so for them. Hopefully they can get everyone together and have a little sit down and see if they can salvage what is left of a season. They have the talent to compete in the 14th region if they can put things back together and work together as a team.

I did not see the S Laurel game, but they definitely had some problems against Pikeville. They had a ton of turnovers for one thing. They looked out of sync on offense. It will be interesting to see if they can turn things around.

I think Steve Banks is more than qualified to Coach basketball at Breathitt. The man was a helluva player and probably still is. You dont build a great program in 2 or 3 years. The musical chairs that Breathitt has been playing with their coaches has hurt the program tremendously. I dont know why the Fugate boys quit but it seems like quitting sure is awfully easy for kids these days. One or two games dont go their way, a coach chews them out once or twice, or they dont get a lot of PT for a couple games and they are ready drop ship and quit. Parents are probably the problem. No kid is more important than the team. Sometimes you get on the coaches bad side and a day or two later, things are fine. I dont think any of those boys are going to the NBA any time soon and they should be thankful that they are playing what they are. Channing and Colby are good players and probably should of stuck things out.

I totally agree. Kids don't realize that playing high school sports is a privilege and not a right. Some players today seem to think that the whole team revolves around them and they should play every second of the game. I think that Coach Banks will turn the season around and have Breathitt ready for the post season.

Being a good player in the past doesn't mean he will be a good coach. I'm sure he probably knows his X's and O's, but where is his coaching experience? I don't think he has coached above Grade School level before being put in this position. You have to gain expereince in dealing with HS players, parents, teachers, counselors, grades, paperwork, meetings, etc. He was doomed to fail IMO.

I think Breathitt Co. made their mistake when they ran Coach Hall away. He finally had the team he has been building and now look at it.

It was a huge mistake when they fired Coach Hall. He had two great years then one rebuilding year. With a small school such as Breathitt, you cant count on win after win every year. Sometimes things go south and thats when the admin should be behind a coach instead of throwning them out.

 

 

It would have been hard for Hall to not have had the two great years with all the talent he had. Were these not the years of Andrew Swell, Jacob Hundley and th Miller twins? Anyone could win with that kind of team

Fair point. But after Breathitt's 15 or 16 point loss to Buckhorn they are 5-6 I think. I think Coach Hall would have kept this team together and they would be in the top 3 or 4 in the 14th this year. But, it's one of those things we'll never know. We can be certain of one thing however, something is wrong with the Program at Breathitt.
