I suppose, some of the confusion in the public comes from the idea that if a student/athlete meets all the guidelines as determined by the KHSAA, once they receive the form, then it is viewed as an 'indirect release' by the school by many (that's what I meant in post 62), but that's not what it is. It's simply the schools signing the correct boxes that apply to the transfer, then allowing the KHSAA to make a decision. The schools can challenge the decision, but in the end the KHSAA has the final say.

The rule in question was change of address. The kid we were talking about did not change address, he had always lived in Lee County and that was Owsleys bone of contention. That the student did not change adresses. Maybe it is symantics we are talking about on the paperwork. But to say a school losing a student/athlete has nothing to do with thier futeure eligabilty is quite a stretch. So technically you are correct on the checking of boxes but other information can be provided. As someone stated earlier about incorrect information I have not said anyone provided any information incorrectly at all. I do not believe anyone did anything wrong or illegal or anything like that. I am just trying to say these are kids and when you take a year of eligability away they can never get it back. I hope we can always do what is best for the kids and keep personal agendas out of the process.

You obviously do not have an indepth knowledge of KHSAA Bylaws. You should go online ---it's there for all to read.

A school can appeal. If I am not mistaken this process may take a quite a while. I can remember a student at Hazard having to get a court order to play during the process as to not lose thier senior year of eligability, because of the appeals process not being quick.

I remember that. I think the KHSAA ruled the kid ineligible and then it was appealed through the court system with the Judge granting a stay, whereas the kid could play during the legal challenge. Neeedless to say, by the time anything got around to happening, the season had come and gone, rendering a ruling useless.

There was not a change in adminstration at Owsley during those 5 years.

If you want to check public school records, Barrett has been the assistant principal beginning in 1999 and was a coach from 1992 to 1999, so in 1999 she naturally assumed the duties of the athletic programs, since the principal had no background in athletics. She then moved into the principal's position in 2003-2004 so technically their hasn't been a change since 1999. For Paul Green, he was never AD at Owsley County High School. The only athletic job he had was as a middle school and girls high school coach. When he left for Lee County, he left a full time teaching assignment to begin his career as an administrator.

All I can say is that Breathitt Co. had talented boys, so why bother with outsiders!

 

If their most talented 'insiders' keep quiting the team, you'd beter hope for all the transfers you can get.

You are obviously confused!!! Barrett has been in an administrative position for 8+ years, Paul Green was never the AD, and Turner just became Supt. in October of 2007.

Is that why the Owls have had so many coaches in the last 5 years

 

You refer to the last 5 years---Turner taking over in October had nothing tol do with the last 5 years--Paul Green was a Social Studies teacher and left to assume a principal position.
