Doubt it, because as soon as it is finished, the softball parents and coaches are going to the Title 9 office and filing a grievance. Can't have a super nice baseball field and not even have softball field, major violation. It might look nice and be ready to play on this season, but if the softball team don't have one or is not allowed to play on it too, they will keep the doors locked on it until they can get the girls a field too.

Did Title IX just now make it to Letcher County? How do you not plan ahead to keep this from happening?

This just hurts the entire program, sports related. Can't the softball team just see that their field is coming in the future. I'm sure with money issues only one field can be constructed at a time. I know in Rockcastle in 1994 when the new school was being built, the softball field was the 1st one up, no one complained about that. Eventually it will all work out, why hurt another sport program.

I think part of the problem is that the district overspent on the football complex....at the expense of some of the lesser programs. If they had managed a workable budget to begin with they probably could have built the football, basketball, baseball, and softball facilities, at the same time.

Totally agree professor. If they would of done it right, they would of put a track around the football field, put extra lines on the football field for soccer to use it too like other schools in the state. Would of been nice to use that space for something more than just football.

Here's the latest. The construction of the field is progressing in a timely matter, and should be ready by spring, according to my source. As for the other 3 fields, Whitesburg's did not belong to them, it was a municipal field, Fleming-Neon's is still in use, and I have no clue where Letcher High played their games.

Nothing like working together for the common good. I understand the law and title IX but dang it, it is not the kids fault and they are the ones who are going to pay the price, not the school system. BUT there should have been plans made to build baseball and softball fields at the same time, or with the football facilites, maybe softball should have come first. But don't punish the kids who just want to play.:argue:
