  1. They're not getting any practice together as it is. Might as well move it to April so at least all the best guys can actually play.
  2. Here ya go: Girls: Covington Holy Cross? Murphy named C-J?s Coach of Year | USA Today High School Sports | USA Today High School Sports Boys: Owensboro?s Drake named C-J?s Coach of Year | USA Today High School Sports | USA Today High School Sports
  3. There will be 10 times more discussion about who did or didn't make the team than there will be about anything that happens in the game itself. That's the #1 problem with the Kentucky-Indiana All-Star series.
  4. Nope ... some regions didn't have any selections (honorable mention) beyond the players who made the top three teams.
  5. LOL ... Instead of just guessing what my article said, you could just read it: Tryouts eliminated for Kentucky All-Star basketball teams | USA Today High School Sports | USA Today High School Sports
  6. That's actually how they used to do it until a couple of years ago, when they decided to reward the district winner with a home game in the quarterfinals. I think both ways have merit. Pretty sure the schools voted to change it to the current format.
  7. What does different venues have to do with "promoting the kids?" I guess you can argue about having to go to Valley, but why do you need two different venues when the games aren't overlapping (other than the quarterfinals)? And it's not like Louisville is crawling with suitable venues for a regional tournament. I think fans here are used to them both being in one place. It's what works for Louisville.
  8. This part is important. Bibby made it a point to tell me he wasn't upset about the food. In fact, he told the kid to throw the food away because it's a rule. Bibby got upset when the security guard made the kid walk around the gym, in the cold, to the pass gate. Bibby admitted he got upset with the security guard, and then the police officer joined in. That's when things got heated, according to Bibby.
  9. Tell me about a kid with a D1 offer who's not on The Courier-Journal's All-State team.
  10. Also, I'd contend, after the first couple of teams, there's no such thing as an "obvious" selection.
  11. Yes, there are about 220 high school football coaches in Kentucky, so to get about half of them to vote is actually a pretty good return. To reply to someone else's comment, The C-J's All-State team may not be the "end all be all," but with 110 coaches involved, it's definitely the All-State team with the most input. Along with those coaches' ballots, I talk to sportswriters from around the state and consult several recruiting services. No, it's not perfect. No All-State team is.

  13. Why is it "too hard on everyone involved?" They went 4-2 against a pretty tough schedule. They don't have a significant number of injuries because of it and got some tough playing experience against very good teams. The home games drew huge crowds, which means revenue. It certainly benefited them more than playing any of the non-Super District 6-A teams from Louisville would have. The only way it can be perceived as a bad thing is if you think they lost to St. X because of playing such a tough schedule. I don't think that was the case.
  14. Aren't all schools required to trade film? Wouldn't that defeat the "easy scouting report" theory to not publishing stats?
  15. My understanding is there won't be any alignment plans released until the KHSAA has a full list of what teams want to play up in class.
  16. Disagree with me all you want about the 32 teams, which was the original purpose for posting this. Was trying to start a discussion along those lines, not one about whether a "Super Class" is feasible. Trust me, I know it will never happen and I understand the reasons why it never will.
  17. After last season, I think the "hate" has subsided just a tad.
  18. You all are thinking of it in terms of enrollment and competitiveness, which was not my intention at all. The idea is a class of the top 32 programs in the state, based on history, tradition, success, etc.
  19. I have no dreams of this ever becoming a reality, and I realize there would be some competitive inequities. I just had the idea of coming up with a class that would include the top 32 programs, based on history, etc., and wanted to see what it would look like.
  20. Let me know what you think! What if Kentucky had a football ?Super Class?? | Jason Frakes ? KHS
  21. You all are going to get your wish because Mr. Basketball is going to be announced the Tuesday night before the Sweet 16 starts.
  22. The thing about computer ratings that I don't think many understand: The only thing to disagree with is the formula used to rank the teams because absolutely NO ONE is sitting there ranking one team ahead of another. There are ZERO comparisons. It's all math. Whoever comes out with the highest number is #1. Also, I don't think people look past the rankings to the actual number of the rating. CovCath, NewCath and Holmes are separated by 3 total points. For all intents and purposes, they're basically even ... which I don't think many would argue about. (What am I thinking? Of course you all will argue about it!) :jump:
