  1. I'm not going to pretend to know EVERY kid in the state who deserves to be honorable-mention All-State. I know enough to know Barker is better than honorable mention and Quick was better than third team. But after the obvious ones, it's up to the coaches to "get it right."
  2. I don't mean to sound smug, but it adds up perfectly. The kids who made it got more votes than the kids who didn't. And, for the record, if I hadn't done a little tinkering, Drew Barker would have been honorable mention instead of second team. And, last year, James Quick would have been third team at wide receiver. There's no perfect way to do an All-State team, especially when you can't get half the coaches in the state to vote and when the ones who do vote do so in blocks.
  3. I'm sorry 18 of the top 24 players weren't from Northern Kentucky. They do play football elsewhere. People always want to talk about how bad the All-State teams are, but I never hear about who didn't deserve to make it. Give me your All-State first team and tell me why your guys deserved to make it over the guys on the C-J team.
  4. Then just go to Rivals or Scout and make your own All-State team out of their rankings.
  5. If anyone thinks the KHSAA is going to put together an All-State team, they have no idea of the mission of the KHSAA. That one's NOT going to happen.
  6. That was changed this year. It was CLEARLY stated to vote for the best players at each position, whether you've seen them or not.
  7. Why are you bringing me into this? Yeah, I went to BG ... and I cringed when I saw the score. I also know the players involved and don't believe there was any malicious intent. The instant outrage and judgment on this board when something like this happens is embarrassing.
  8. I doubt anyone cares, but there's no such thing as the "Associated Press Courier-Journal All-State team." This is The Courier-Journal team, voted on by the coaches. The Associated Press has its own team, voted on by the media.
  9. I know they have the best player in the state, but has anyone actually looked at Owensboro Catholic's results? No way they're a top-10 team.
  10. tcjkbt gets it ... although I really can't defend Trinity being No. 1. My top five (in order) is Ballard, Bullitt East, Henry Clay, Madison Central and Trinity.
  11. I've gone round and round with The AP on this for years and have given up on it. As Richard said, the fact that voters in major population areas like Louisville, Lexington and Northern Kentucky (or anywhere for that matter) can only nominate 15 players is absolutely ridiculous. Can you really tell me there are only 15 players from the Louisville area - ON A YEARLY BASIS - that merit no more than honorable-mention status? Once you get past Trinity and St. X, that leaves about 6 players to nominate. It's an absolutely ridiculous process.
  12. I don't know whether this applies to any of the schools in question, but I know you actually have to pay to be a member of the KFCA in order to be eligible for its award. This is the problem in a lot of other sports, too. If you don't pay to be a member, you aren't eligible for the awards. I can tell you The Courier-Journal has considered not even running these awards because they're not all-inclusive. But we decided it would be a disservice to those who win not to acknowledge them. It's the same reason we don't run the state statistical leaders provided by the KHSAA. Too many teams simply don't report their stats, and the ones that are released aren't anywhere close to accurate.
  13. It would be nice if people understood what "coaches' rankings" mean. I didn't rank these teams and players. The coaches did!
  14. This senior class in Kentucky isn't very deep. The junior class has more Division I talent, led by Ballard's Quentin Snider. Already committed to U of L.
  15. He has offers from Louisville and Illinois. He will start at wide receiver this year but also is the backup QB if Wright gets hurt. I'd say Reggie will start at QB next year as a senior.
  16. Scotty Hopson was AP Player of the Year in 2008. Darius Miller was Mr. Basketball.
  17. Mr. Basketball won't be named until later this month. The award Nathan got to today was Player of the Year from The Associated Press. Mr. Basketball is a different animal.
  18. I mean this with all due respect, and congrats to those that made it ... BUT, if you knew the process that determines the Associated Press All-State team, you wouldn't put much stock into it. The Courier-Journal, Herald-Leader and BGP All-State teams are much more reliable.
  19. I ranked Manual ahead of St. X based on their play so far this season. I believe Manual deserves to be ranked higher. On paper, I believe Manual should beat St. X this year. But, as we all know, games aren't played on paper - especially when it comes to the mental edge T and X seem to hold over most of their competition.
  20. I'll give you credit if and when Manual (or any 6-A team other than Trinity) beats St. X. Still not sure it will happen.
  21. Key passage: "a couple of weeks ago." I base my rankings on results, not speculation.
  22. Folks, for the record, that is NOT the USA Today Super 25. That's the Massey Ratings, a computer ranking comparable to our Litkenhous Ratings. And I know how you all feel about our Litkenhous Ratings!
  23. BGP likes to rip on the AP poll - and rightfully so sometimes. But this 6-A ranking is bad, really bad. How in the world can anyone rank Male and Manual ahead of St. X?
  24. Media doesn't vote for Mr. Basketball. Only the state's coaches. I don't know when ballots are due.
