Courier Journal All State Team
Jason Frakes replied to PurplePride92's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
If we didn't sort the honorable mentions by region, I doubt anyone would notice which regions are and are not represented. Think of regions as college basketball conferences. You think every conference has someone worthy of being an honorable-mention All-American? -
Girl's Roster for the KY/OH All Star Game
Jason Frakes replied to PurplePride92's topic in KY Girls Basketball (High School)
The limit is 2 all-star games BEFORE graduation. KY-IN is in June ... doesn't count toward limit. As a side note, I hate how everyone immediately has to question the motive behind someone NOT playing in one of these games. -
Litkenhous Ratings for 2-15-16
Jason Frakes replied to broadcaster240's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Perhaps it's because you incorrectly view computer ratings as some head-to-head standings instead of what they really are, a comparison of how teams have performed through the entire season. South Oldham has nothing that can compare to Oldham County's three best wins this season (North Hardin, Male and Eastern). Yes, some teams are ranked behind teams they've defeated. Welcome to reality. -
Litkenhous Ratings for 2-15-16

If it's any consolation, Owen County is 21st (first team outside of Top 20). -
Litkenhous Ratings (1-18-2016)

It seems to me people often wish polls and ratings would look more like "standings." Those are easily found on the KHSAA website. -

Pretty much the way it is now, isn't it? -
Just talked to him. He's still Central's coach. At least, that's true today.

Courier Journal All State list, finally
Jason Frakes replied to jericho's topic in KY Football (High School)
I'm going to post this and leave it here about All-State teams: * Some people want it to be a list of the best college prospects in the state. If you're going to do it that way, might as well vote on the team before the season ever starts. * Some people want it to be a list of the players with the best stats. But this doesn't factor in strength of schedule, players only playing 2-3 quarters because of blowouts. * Some people think if you win a state championship, you should have more All-State players than other teams. But this leaves the regular season rather meaningless and doesn't factor in that some teams have much tougher playoff roads than others. * Some people think if their son isn't first-team All-State, the entire list is bogus. * Some people think the third-best QB in their area HAS to be better than the best QB in another area. Of course, that person never has seen EITHER QB play. So many agendas. So many ways of doing it. Of all the All-State teams out there, none has more people involved (126) than The Courier-Journal's. No way is it perfect, NOT EVEN CLOSE. But there's no way anyone EVER is going to put out a perfect All-State team. Thanks to each of you for being so passionate about the sport. -

Try reading all of the teams. He's second team at defensive back. -

Wakefield was a no-doubt first-teamer in preseason but hardly played all year. His stats: 7 games, 15 catches, 287 yards, 4 TDs -
Courier Journal All State list, finally

Because I know people will ask: The C-J All-State team is based on a vote of coaches. Every coach in the state receives a ballot. We got 126 ballots back. Do we publish the team based exactly on vote totals? No. But I'd say it's about 90 percent of what we use. -

Thoughts on 2015 Championships
Jason Frakes replied to UK fball fan's topic in KY Football (High School)
Folks, this has only been explained about a BILLION times. The KHSAA could not play any games at WKU on Friday because of Conference USA rules. CUSA pretty much had control of the stadium 24 hours before kickoff, which would be from 11 a.m. Friday to 11 a.m. Saturday. -
Listen, I'm not here to disparage one player. Maybe if the list goes to the top 30 or 35, Colton Elkins is on it. Maybe he wins Mr. Basketball this year. But from what I can tell, he has 2 offers right now- Campbell and Kentucky Wesleyan. I'm not pretending the list is perfect, but maybe we quit pretending like the next Michael Jordan got snubbed.

Everybody wants to complain about "their guy" not being high enough, but they never want to say who they should be ahead of. I mean, if you're ranked the 14th-best player in the state, is there really a need to cry about not being No. 8 or No. 9. I bet every kid in that top 10 has someone who believes they absolutely deserve to be in the top 10.

Courier Journal Preseason Top 25

"AS VOTED BY STATE'S COACHES" It's amazing how many people skip right over that line. -

Haha! Thanks, man. I'm actually picking Owensboro over BG on Friday ... but I don't feel real good about doing so! -
These rumors flying around about Male right now are just crazy. Seems to be wishful thinking by some of their possible future opponents, but we shall see.

6A Round 2: St. Xavier vs Trinity @ PJCS
Jason Frakes replied to LongTimeReader's topic in KY Football (High School)
No, we're not going to reveal who. It's not something we normally do, but I wanted to give the coaches the ability to speak freely without fear of recrimination. I wasn't going to print something that might be considered inflammatory, and I don't believe either coach said anything that would be considered so. -
