Great post. I have an old frat brother that came from Columbus to see the game. He went to the DeSales game too. He has seen two awesome rain games this year. You might want to keep your Vandy tickets, since the cats only win once a month. You can catch the birds at Lex. Cath. in 3 weeks. That's right Colonel fans, the Birds haven't lost their mojo. :fight:

I think it makes your team stronger when you play strong competition. Helps you in the playoffs. Since we don't have computer rankings in KY (although the KHSAA might pick up on that bad idea) what possible reason is there to not scheduling teams that annually go deep into the playoffs?

Your higher elevation must have rendered you a bit light headed. Hope springs eternal. With the new districts set for 07. You have a great opportunity to schedule teams from NKY.

Great game by the Colonels. Boy, was that tough to type. CCH coaches did a great job of prep, and the boys executed the plan to perfection. Great win for the Colonels. I heard at the game and on this thread, some second guessing of HHS coaches. I think it will be important for the coaches, as well as the players, to step up for the rematch. No doubt they will. I was surprised by our lack of pressure on the QB. I thought Drew may have had a minor leg injury early in the game. Felt that accounted for the missed chip shot in the 1st qtr. I thought, no way would we intentionally short kick, over and over. I was wrong again. Might want to re-visit that strategy. Since CCH's best wins seem to be in Ft. Thomas, traveling to the team from Park Hill's field might be a blessing.

Yes, we have been watching the same team. The defensive schemes are solid and the players are executing as they have been coached. With a less mobile QB playing this week, I don't see the same big play outcome.

Seeing is believing. SO's QB did a good job of keeping the play alive with his scrambling. I don't see that playmaking ability from Cov Cath's QB.

I think the X factor will be the Birds defensive secondary. Head, Bethiany and the latest addition Daley are all ball hawks defending the pass. Shutting down the Colonel's short passing game will be the key. I don't think the Colonel's can match the Bird's ability to score with a quick strike. Kramer is so elusive in the open field. JB, DeSales has been a scoring machine this year. 30 pts is, if not their lowest close to it, output for the year. Pretty unrealistic to expect to shut them out. HHS has had several personnel changes over the past few weeks, some planned, some due to injuries. The team is improving. But that improvement has come from the games played against tough competition. I know the boys were excited to play at PBS. This argument is a mute point. Based on subjective polls (AP, Litkenhaus, etc)the Birds will be the favored team each week, the rest of the season. Next year St. X, Elder and DeSales will be missing from the schedule. So HHS can pound a few teams, possibly have a better win-loss record; and you can pound your chest about all-time wins.

I agree with your Crunch. How would the team improve by pounding another SW Pulaski? The "L" potentially had much more meaning for DeSales than it did to HHS.

I attended the game, and what a game it was. It was a good HS football game. It would have been a great game if we had pulled it out at the end. I think the most important lesson learned tonight is end of game management. The Birds had the ball in the red zone with just under two minutes left to play and three time outs. We really rushed to get the plays off. I think taking a TO and settling down the team; drying the hands might have made a difference. I also thought we abandoned the run too early; we had time and TOs, we didn't need to go into panic mode. The pass plays that worked against St. X were difficult to execute in a driving rain at the end of the game. Witnessing the 05 and 06 games, it is hard to believe how we shut down their running game. My Columbus friend (and bluebird fan) remarked he hadn't seen DeSales run so many pass plays in a game. Coaches and players will learn from this defeat. The team continues to improve each week. Even with the loss, I feel HHS has taken another step forward in the road to #17.

Thanks Blue. DeSales will know they are in a game before the 1st period is over. Special teams and field position will play a huge part in what figures to be a close game. Excellent playoff prep. This is going to be a fun one.

I asked my Columbus friend for his opinion about the 06 edition of DeSales. This is his response, "They are 4-0 and ranked second in the state (D-3, Ohio has 6). Another good looking team, they mostly run, but their passing game is good - usually for big plays. See you Friday - I am sure we won't have any trouble finding the Bluebird faithful." The Birds are improving on both sides each week. The boys are responding to the coaching. Smart move getting Koop on the field at TE. He is doing a great job in the edge. The O should stretch the field and not allow them to put stuff the box. D has to be fundamentally sound, not overun the play and while gang tackling. An error free game by all three teams (O,D & Special) will bring home a win. HHS 35 DeSales 28

SW has averaged 4 TDs per game, but the bar is set alot higher this time out. After a scenic bus ride to NKY, I see a couple of quick scores for the Birds; followed by several long drives. Another shut out. HHS 42 SW 0

Birds had a nice game last week. But nice will not get it done against the big boys. The D responded well against Elder. The O had outstanding efforts by the line, Kremer (again) and Cecil. The third team put the birds in situations they couldn't overcome. All three teams need to be firing to have a great game. This will be another solid test. The birds answered the bell against the traditionally physical ground game of Elder. Now we get to see how much the birds learned from the Male scrimmage. Keep working birds, you have shown improvement each week. Its great to watch another championship team come together.
