  1. Lots of new starters for SK; I hardly recognized a lot of the kids this year. Most notable difference in the LB corps. I like the idea of the sophomore at QB; builds program in longer run but agree with Neer, needs some more bulk. Impressed with the discipline of St. X on the sidelines, on the field although a couple of the 15 yarders were a little surprising. I'm pretty sure I saw Swanson selling Kettle Corn tonight. He returned kicks, held the one blocked FG, played back, receiver, safety etc...he's going to be sore tomorrow. Kuntz on one of the runs for his life described by Neer. Very nice interception by St. X. Derek Iles with a flying jersey tackle.
  2. Only 10 votes, another meaningless Enquirer poll. I still miss the old Kentucky Post.
  3. Oh yeah, one of the two loudest stompers in Northern KY, the other one wears heels. He's an amimated coach for sure. Good luck Coach.
  4. Just saw bits and pieces on the iPhone but the Eastern/Warren Central was awesome and just may be the closest game that Eastern gets. Christian County is the only other team that has a chance. No doubt that Wednesday bracket was loaded.
  5. Over half of SV's roster is 8th or 9th Graders, wow, no wonder they looked so young. Most photogenic player of the day; Hickey from Christian Co.
  6. Warren Central was much better than I expected. Obviously the best game of the day but IMO, the two best teams in Rupp today. This dunk was ridiculous.
  7. That's cool; I thought of Big Joe as soon as Dixie won last Sunday.
  8. Thought it would be good to take another look at this awesome game.
  9. I remember as an elementary school youngster not having school the Wednesday through Friday of the state tournament week without any schools in the district being there. (Kenton County Schools) If I remember though, that stopped in about 1974. All depends on the school district size. For Walton, I'm sure their administration took about 2 seconds to make that decision. For Dixie in the Kenton County District (5th Largest in the State) it doesn't make sense to shut the whole system down. If the game intereferes with class, should be excused- call it a field trip as long as you can prove you were there. Shoot, my dad used to take me fishing and hunting and just take me out of school and call it "we had to go out of town. Call it a family field trip. Those times were far greater and meaningful than any class I had. I see kids having the same times in Rupp Arena with their moms and dads. It is an event and tradition, it is not just a basketball game.
  10. Hopefully they didn't forget it this year! Kidding aside, congrats and good luck.
  11. I got a lot of action shots of the game. NKU top notch when it comes to lighting. However, these few shots really stood out after I went back and looked at my pics. The action shots are neat but these just help explain the game.
  12. I can't even imagine the hours that he spends not only in the gyms but reviewing and posting for everyone. Thanks man! Enjoy this oldie but goodie.
  13. Where is the next level for her? Is Gayheart playing college ball?
  14. By the way, Gallatin has some very nice facilities. Shot altering mentioned above. Wainscott's shot at the buzzer that could have tied the game.
  15. SK led entire game until about 3 minutes left in the game. Score was 15-14 SK at half. Pioneers went up by 7 in the second half but couldn't hold the lead. Two words sum up SK game: dismal shooting. SK outrebounded Owen and forced more turnovers but simply could not score. Wainscott kept driving the ball but would be swarmed and either didn't get off a good shot, got blocked. SK kept Gayheart in check; she made maybe one or two field goals? Waldrop sp? was player of the game in my book for her shot altering. One of those games you just call ugly. Congrats to SK's Wainscott and Blevins on great careers.
  16. I stated it in the boys thread regarding the refs; the top 5 or so guys in the 8th are awesome; once you get past that, you don't know what you are going to get. Only thing that frightens me is one of the guys I see in Panda's awesome photos is usually a guy who does a decent job; wouldn't call him one fo the tops but he is usually decent. Would like to hear Buttels thoughts since he is pretty much an 8th Region guy although he probably isn't in a position to comment.
  17. Awesome place but it is a good ride for the northern corridor of the 8th Region. Is there even any other venue in the 8th large enough to host?
  18. Agree with Col Mike... this thing is wide open. The last five years, there were pretty much 1 or 2 favorites and then everyone else. I have a feeling though, the winner comes out of the top bracket. My favorite venue for high school basketball in Kentucky. It is a blast to attend the Roy where they have had the tourney for what; 40 something years? (will say though; the worst lit gym in Kentucky for pictures.) Only thing better is getting in a meal of fried oysters in at Our Best Restaraunt on the way down on a Saturday afternoon; tough to do with the games on weeknight. Agree with Neerfan about having them on the weekend.
  19. These two are definitely very good BUT once you get past that......well. I can think of 6 pretty good ones in the 8th with most of them doing NAIA/NCAA3 games; as long as they send them to the BOKC; things will be fine.
  20. Thanks for the clarification on the Ron Madrick. Great guy and runs a great tourney. In my opinion, the top few refs in the 8th are very good; better than the top officals from the 9th. The crew that did the WV/SK Boys game the other night did a fine job; competitive game but you never noticed they were there. Problem is, once you get below the top few, it falls off pretty drastically eg., one of the refs doing the SK/WV girls game the other night shouldn't have been doing a game on that level. Brian Sandlin and Terry Coldiron are the two best IMO.
  21. What school is sponsoring the tourney? I know last year that Holmes was managing.
  22. Just tough because I think Anderson is the team to beat. I looked up today's Courier Journal/Litkenhous ratings...if you add Monday night, it totals 326 points, if you add Tuesday night, it totals 325. South Oldham 94.6 Anderson Co 89.7 WV 86.8 SK 82.4 Owen 82.3 Collins 71.7 Gallatin 71.5 Oldham 70.6
  23. Strange not seeing Shelby County in the Region Tourney. Tuesday bracket looks pretty tough.
  24. Value City back in business? Trying out for a Bruce Pearl contest? Kidding aside, his energy was inspiring tonight. Hargett took over the last two minutes. Good luck to both teams at the Roy.
