  1. Good luck to South Oldham tomorrow. More impressed with Whitfield each time I see her play. SK, great season. Continued prayers for the SK community following yesterdays storms. SIMON KENTON HIGH SCHOOL PIONEER SPORTS BLOG: The Pride of Southern Kenton County…Our Community
  2. Anyone even thinking about jumping on thsi bandwagon shouldn't forget that Miles missed most of the second half of the game against X with a messed up ankle. Ironically, SK made their comeback with Miles unable to play. Sounds like coaching to me? The worst call I've ever seen in a football game at any level (defensive pass interference) was called against SK after they made a stop and X ends up scoring the difference in the game.
  3. Reminder; Jeff Marksberry won the 2008 Marvin Lewis Coach of the Year Award...it isn't just based on winning, I copied the info from the Marvin Lewis Foundation website: The Marvin Lewis Coach of the Year Award presented by Baker Concrete is awarded to the top high school football coach in the Tri-State area. Over 200 area schools may nominate their coach for this award. The winner is chosen based on their teaching skills, sportsmanship, dedication to players, and commitment to education and his community. The award is handed out by Coach Lewis at the annual Greater Cincinnati Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame Scholar-Athletes Banquet. Enough said.
  4. 3:00 on Sunday. Good call by AD's and Tourney Officials. Let's pray all this stuff dodges us and the Storm Chasers made the trip to Central KY for nothing. Pretty scary stuff.
  5. 8th Region definitely postponed until tomorrow; SK plays SO at 2:00, assume WV and Owen will follow.
  6. When Jim Cantore and national storm chasers are headed to Louisville and Lexington as we speak, it probably makes sense to push everything back a day. I remember 8th Region tourneys being postponed a few years ago for a snow storm but this is much more dangerous of a situation.
  7. Bray's face is eclipsed by the net on this shot. Towles more in the frame. His blocks weren't bad either.
  8. I've never personally witnessed a 19 point comeback in the 4th quarter before last night. A good lesson for any team not to quit or give up.

  10. Spirit of the game was compromised. I also heard others say it was poor sportsmanship although I wouldn't go this far. There is nothing more exciting than a regional tournament but this sure wasn't it. I understand strategy but sorry, I didn't see strategy in this tactic. Players worked summer, all fall and winter to say this is how we are going to win? Give your best effort and see how far your team can go. I'd rather see my kids going down with giving it their all and best to compete. There just wasn't much competition from either team. I follow Highlands' reason (not understand) but I'm not sure why NDA killed the clock in the third quarter? If Highlands doesn't have more turnovers and missed layups than points, they win and you would really have to question what NDA was doing. Whole thing was just bizzare. Some would argue SK was a 20+ point underdog last night but they came out, gave it their best shot and guess what? There was a group of kids who had trouble sleeping because they were so pumped about their win.

  13. A pretty big ovation went up when she went in, obviously some story there.
  14. Wow, what an awesome game. SK came out and was ready; AC, not so much. Anderson County held to 14 points at half-time. Remember, SK gave up 48 in first half against Walton in the District Final. Owings led SK in scoring with 14, Bosse with 10. McKee and Cann score 38 of 49 for AC. Brown only played 4 minutes for AC and that was the last 4 of the game? SK shot the lights out in the first quarter but cooled off and won the game with defense. What a surprise? SK pretty much led the entire game until AC took lead by 1 with 47 seconds at about time Owings fouled out and it didn't look good. Unsung hero of the game, Cook for SK. Played 30+ minutes and did a good job on Cann who went for 20 but much of that came late in the game. She is a nice player and Anderson is a great team but they looked totally out of synch and didn't expect game SK brought, almost confused at times. SK really got something positive from everyone they put on the floor. SK goes to 4-1 against AC in regional tourney play since they joined 8th 7 years ago. I haven't seen Anderson this year but they usually seemed more ready for SK than they did tonight, would like to hear other's take. Buttels is right, Coach Stowers looks at the entire season as scrimmages, first game of districts and regional is what he really works and coaches for; although he still hates to lose any other time! Just a great high school game and I look forward to seeing more of these two sophomore dominated teams.
  15. Not a fan of ATT's but not sure how Judy got left off that list. Not only did she score 19 against SK, she was also very strong defensively. I was very impressed with W-town's 8th graders. The Demons are going to be very competitive in the not so distant future.
  16. Didn't catch the All Tourney Team? Sandlin, Judy, Owings, Hearn and Stephenson? Not sure who the W-town Rep was.
  17. Wow is right; a perfect capture on many fronts; Moss looks like a slalom skier, Critt is like have at it and asst coach, is like wow, did you see that? Awesome shot Panda-definitely one of my faves of your season! Looking forward to the rest of the season. You really need to publish your schedule here so that we know when and where you are going to be!
  18. In the beginning of the year, I wouldn't have given you $0.02 for this region. What a nice surprise it has been with several teams having better than expected seasons. You can make a legitimate argument for any of the teams to come out on top. It should be a thriller. Looking forward to KY B-ball in the most atmospheric arena with one of the best concession stands going!

  20. I did like the location and the "ring" size allowing for additional mats. I was blown away when they cut the lights for the introduction and never turned them back on; I even went to someone and asked about it. I found it almost hard to tell from a distance who was wrestling! Rather bizzare but I'm sure it will be better next year.
  21. A lot of SK's success this year has come on the defensive side of the ball where you don't get a lot of accolades other than wins. The thing that has come around as the season has gone on is their scoring off the defense. SK's proximity to their region and with teams in their conference has given developed into somewhat of an identity crisis. Most of their conference is in the 9th where most of their games get played. Hard to vote for kids that you don’t get to see play. I'm sure the guys who weren't recognized would rather have a regional title where they certainly aren’t a favorite but a team that could be cutting down the nets at the Roy.
  22. I guess everyone has a different impression of "run out of the building." Single digits with 4 minutes to go isn't run out of the building in my book.
  23. No problem Goldie, was just pointing out that many didn't think the 8th was going to be that strong this year but what a nice surprise several of the teams have turned out to be. Can't wait for the late night trips to the Roy Winchester Gym at Henry County.
  24. Better move SK to the 8th; wow 8th Region tourney is shaping up as a good one with 3 teams now in the top 25.
