  1. I had the game on in the background but lost track of it; did they do the running clock even though it was the state tournament? Tomorrow's game with MC should be a good one.
  2. You are correct. Meant to say under 2:00. Hard to believe if I hadn't seen it in person. I felt really bad for the SK kids, some of who just collapsed after the game. Congrats to both teams for giving a great sized crowd a great game to watch. I don't ever remember seeing a girls team come back from 10 with 1:30 to win the game. So many keys of the game. The biggest two which were outlined, turnovers and missed foul shots. SK missed the front end of a one and one and the turned around and missed two in a row. SK's Cook really frustrated Cann and she really was kept in check for much of the game; not sure what she shot but it wasn't good and many of her shots were just heaves at the basket. Tomlin did a good job on McKee but McKee came alive in the last two minutes and OT. The press SK used on two possessions opened up the court for McKee. Cox fouling out of the game was a big hit to SK. To me, Whiteside was the MVP of this game. She played hard and never ran out of gas. Coach Kays; wow, his poise and faith in his team were unreal. He stayed calm even when most in the gym thought the game was over. Owings; tough, tough tough. Refs; never mind. This game reminds me so much of the 8th Region Final in 2006 when SK played Shelby County. SC was a huge favorite but SK led much of the game and squandered a decent second half lead before losing in OT.
  3. SK led almost the entire game and was up 10 with just under 3 minutes to go and 1 with 1:12 to go.
  4. A couple of other interesting pics: The last foul of the game. The bench was going nuts but you can see Coach Booher sitting down; This is the play where some wanted Ruthsatz to shoot instead of dishing. Wow.
  5. Best I can tell, this is where the foul happened.
  6. Lots of discussion on this play. I obviously had a pretty good view.
  7. Wow; didn't realize that SO has played 5 games at the gym already. That certainly explains why they shot so well the other night. Defintely an advantage for SO. Maybe SK should try and play more games in the Winchester Fieldhouse in the future so that they don't have to adjust to backdrop, lighting etc; maybe against some of the better teams in the Region like Oldham, SO or even Collins. Oh wait... I'll call the game a toss-up. I want SK to win but SO has more in their favor on paper.
  8. Oh, I agree; just not sure you can get off everything that he did in .5 for that shot; you know the dipsy do tip-in. Only would have mattered if Collins would have won and it was additive to one of the best games I've seen. I was there to watch the SK/Em game but so glad I got to see this. Really cool. I've always been a proponent of fouling intentionally if you are up by 3 with less than 5 seconds. After last night and seeing a game tied with .5, I think I've changed my mind.
  9. Calling it a tip is a bit of a stretch. It was equivalent to a tip that we used to play in "tip horse"; as long as your feet were off the ground when you shot; it still gave your opponent a letter. I'm not sure he really got it off in .5 but it certainly added to the drama. When the Collins student section stormed the court; I don't think there was any waving it off.
  10. One of most unbelievable games I've ever seen. I got there with 7 minutes left in the 4th. Collins was down by 21! Collins kept chipping away and away drilling threes while South perpetually turned the ball over. In regulation, Collins had the ball down three with just seconds left. They got off a three "almost" at the buzzzer. A South player gets the rebound and thinking the game is over takes off running with the ball. Ref blows the whistle and signals travelling. They put .5 of a second back on the clock. After the refs sort things out and the players come back on the floor, South player looked to tell ref he was going to foul. Before ball is inbounded, the whistle is blown for the foul. Collins player going to the line still down 3; still with .5 on the clock. Player makes the first foul shot but misses second on purpose. Collins player explodes on the miss; looked like he went in the lane really early and gets the tip in at the buzzer. Collins crowd pours on the floor; no T called and we head to OT. South has no mo on their side but finds another gear and controls OT to win by three. Collins had a chance to tie at the end but the South D held at the end. Pardon my lack of knowledge on the teams but one of the Collins guards drained 9 threes in the loss.
  11. Thanks for clarifying; I agree. I was hoping he wasn't fired. Absolutely outstanding coach. My two favorite Trame moments; him leading the Neers to state (one of only two trips mind you) and the Blue Blazer and bow tie that he broke out against SK in the District Final a couple of years ago. Walton was a pretty big underdog in that game and they pulled out a win.
  12. Timeout, was he fired? Remember the excitement of the WV faithful when he got hired?
  13. Even more amazed when I went back and looked at the Grant record on the KHSAA website. Grant County had lost 6 of its last 8 games including a loss to Williamstown on January 21st.
  14. I've found it strange over the past year that Kenton County Schools seem to spend a lot of energy worrying about who is supervising a field trip but they have no policies written into their athletic code regarding drug use.
  15. Grant loses to WV 74-28 on December 17th. A beating that borders on unecessary but you could argue now that it probably helped Grant. One of the biggest turnarounds or upsets I can remember in this area in a long time. Congrats to Grant and nice run for WV. I was looking forward to watching another SK/WV District final but that's why they play the game. Going on memory but I think Grant pulled off an upset back in 2007 in the Districts at Walton over Walton. That was the last time Walton wasn't in the finals- memory based. In this video, love how the Grant coach talks about the anatomy of an upset. I would love to hear what that was made up of. 16. In response to Punttheball, SK has two coaches who are considered administrators. Kind of gives those teams an advantage if they want to do an out of state game or tourney.
  17. Just when it was starting to climb out of the doldrums, my BGPSI just took a major hit. (Bluegrass Preps Satisfaction Index)
  18. What a great game last night. The jitters of the players in the beginning, the level and toughness of the play and the atmosphere. If I hadn't known better, I would have thought that I was watching a regional final. First time I've said this all basketball season but I event thought the officiating was pretty solid; if you went inside, you needed to get mugged to draw a foul; they let them play for the most part. Two very even teams with players that will be fun to watch.
  19. What are the dates for the games at the Winchester Fieldhouse?
  20. The picture on Kentucky.com tells almost as much as an MRI. It shows his leg in an 80 degree angle to the side. His ligaments would need to be made of rubber for there not to be any tears. Almost as gross as the Marcus Lattimore images I've seen. Those with squeamish stomachs should click on link with caution. Photo shows the awkward angle at which Nerlens Noel landed. G... on Twitpic
  21. I think I'll keep that prediction to myself that Conner is going to win the 9th; ouch!
