Powell County does have a good team this year. Pitching in a long week with six games is a key and Powell was almost out of pitching for the Madison Central game. Madison Central game was a non region game for Powell so Coach Varney chose to use his top three pitchers against region team like Perry Central, Lee County and Leslie County. Madison Central has very good team and against Powell's weaker pitchers they hit the ball well.

Powell County cruised in this one. Corey Benningfield pitched a no-hitter for the Pirates. Devon Pelfrey, Corey Benningfield and Cory Brewer all provided key hits in the Pirate victory.

We would be much better as parents to steer our kids to other sports. Sad to say becuase baseball is a great game. Congrats to all the young men who have signed to baseball next year.

Great win for Clark County. Great job. I was hoping that the Cardinals would pull it together for a entire game against Mason County.

Sour Grapes from 2003. June Buchanan had a good game plan and stuck to it. I wish that referees were never a factor, period.

Great win for LCA. Sweet Sixteen will be wide open this year.

I had a front row seat for the game. The officiating was not the same on both ends or in both halves. The game between Breathitt and Buckhorn was exactly the same. No one should be suprised by this by now.

Mason County by 9 on their home floor.

Really tough draw for Estill County

Powell County played thier game, getting the ball up the court as quick a possible. Powell's full court press was not effective with getting turnovers, but it made the Owsley players use alot of energy each time down the court. Ryan Romans had 27 points and was force inside for Powell County. Daniel Kinser was key for the Pirates, in the first half he made several key passes that led to Powell baskets and in the fourth quarter he hit three baseline jumpers in a row. Danny Dennis hit a big 3 from the top of the key to put Powell up by 13 points early in the fourth quarter. Jonathon Skidmore played very defensive game. Jeremy Banks had several key rebounds. Kyle Lively wins his second district championship in a row (Jackson City last year). The Athletic Directors for Owsley County (Peggy Edwards and Jerry McIntosh) and thier staffs, along with the many volunteers made with week at the 56th District Tournament a pleasure. Everything was top notch. Thank you. Good Luck to both teams in the regional tournament.

Danny Wright is a quality person and as a coach, he gets as much out of his players as any coach I've seen for a long time. Good Luck.

Justin Hicks are been solid all year for Hazard. Ryan Romans is a monster for Powell County. Clark Stepp is a wizard with the ball for June Buchanan. Justin Hicks is my pick because of his play in big games.

Yet another upset in the 14th region.

I saw the regular season game and Breathitt's numbers were too much for Jackson City. This one should be closer but Breathitt County should prevail by 12 points.

Powell County's Coach Ken Jones has his Lady Pirates playing well at the right time. Powell over Owsley by 12 points. The two teams in the 56th that are playing the best as of now. 53 LCC and KCC 54 PCC and Leslie 55 Breathitt and Wolfe 56 Powell and Estill Regional will be a toss up now with the injury to Madden (PCC), but IMO Perry Central will rally to win the 14th.

Good luck with a speedy recovery from the folks in the 56th. Berea College is standup in my book.

Again, no way Estill County beats Powll County in this one.
