  1. Lee won at Lee at buzzer, Powell won at Powell in OT.
  2. bballking is taking some unwarranted grief here. I don't see him making any excuses about the Lee/Estill game.
  3. I dont blame the referees for Lee losing the Hazard game, in fact my point is the same as yours. Too many excuses.
  4. I agree with you 100%, and Owsley is my 2nd favorite team, after Lee. I look forward to coming on here and seeing a thread, "we tried hard, we did our best, but we lost fair and square".
  5. If Lee had lost, Bobcat fans would have been here claiming that "video proved undoubtedly that Pelphrey got fouled hard" on what, at the time , appeared to be Lee's last chance, or that "the last inbounds play looked like a rugby scrum", and both claims would have been legit. I'll say what I said to Bobcat fans after Lee lost in a similar way to Hazard in a game that, it now appears, could very well have cost them the All A Regional, and that is, chill out people. You can find an unlimited number of situations that could change the game. If Estill folks are checking the video, they might want to look at Estill's coach breaking and throwing that clipboard into a crowd of people, that included Estill's cheerleaders, not to mention the old Badcat. Now that could have hurt someone.
  6. Aaron Charles hit a 3 at horn in a wild finish. Neither team led by more than four at any time during game.
  7. boy girl double-header. Lee girls play Cordia afterwards. Just called LCHS and confirmed. Better spread word diehard.
  8. Just got back from irvine, and not everyone knew that game time for boy's game is SIX P.M. Would be bummer to drive down, and game be over. Lee by 3.
  9. By the way, I have now seen all teams in 55th, and Breathitt looks best.
  10. Lee should have pulled away when they had the lead, but the technical really hurt, and Breathitt really hit boards hard. Lee is good at home, but seems to struggle on the road. The game against Estill should be a dandy, since it as at Lee.
  11. Lee is a really much better team than most think, and is unusually good at home. I was not at the game, but I know one of the referee's well, he is a good friend and I cannot image that he would deliberately favor one team over another. Lighten up, fellow Bobcat fans.
  12. The thing about the Lee-Owsley rivalry is that when you go to the game at either gym, it is full of people you are related to, done business with or just been friends with all your life. The Professor loves the Owls, and the Lee County games at the old gym in Beattyville that I have missed in the last 20-30 years you can count on one hand. The thought of falling out him and other good people from Booneville over the outcome of a basketball game is just unthinkable! I've known them too long for that. Sometimes the kids forget that just a little, but us old timers know better.
  13. Professor, looks like Estill 1, Lee and Powell 2 and 3, Owsley 4. I'll swear I believe I would rather Lee finish fourth so they would play Estill rather than Powell County on their home floor.
  14. All kidding aside, Menifee was reasonably competetive for a good part of the first half, but then just kind of faded away. They don't seem to have a lot of physical strength. I havrealways wondered why they have not been more consistently competetive with teams like Lee, Wolfe and Owsley down through the years, as they are a similiarly sized and situated school.
  15. Atticus can't take the fact i had speaking part in festivities, and he would have been mere spectator.
  16. Lee will be awfully thin without Campbell.
  17. I understand Lee played every player on the team, and that Riverside couldn't get anybody out, and that the game stopped after 3 innnings. Lee played 6th and 7th graders. If you hit easy fly balls that the other team can't catch, what do you do? Stop running until the ball finally gets to first for a force out? Should Lee's 6th graders deliberately swing and miss? Double up on the bases for outs? Call in the Little Leaguers? Lee only played Riverside because of the All A. If they can't compete at that level, maybe they should reconsider entering the tournament.
  18. I think the tournament went very smoothly. Peggy Edwards and Jerry McIntosh did an excellent job. The fans were enthusiastic, yet were well behaved. I know there was some talk that Owsley's gym was too small, but the six night format adequately dealt with that problem. I think the 56th District seeding teams, and rotating the tournament on a yearly basis is the only way to stage the tournament, and it continues to work very well.
  19. I am truly concerned about the behavior I see at some games. I was at the 56th district game -Powell vs. Estill- and some young Estill County fans were making very crude gestures toward Powell County fans. The Estill County principal saw it, and put an IMMEDIATE end to it. I don't know what he said, but to his absolute credit, he stopped it cold. These are games. Enjoy them. Part of the fun is supporting one team over the other, but some of the the people in the stands need to learn that there is no substitute for sportsmanship and good taste.
  20. Coach Wright needs to step back, take a deep breath, recognize that the fact that he has been asked to reconsider is a good thing, (apparantly those in charge recognize he is a talented young coach), realize that in his chosen profession, (like most), there are times when you will be criticized, (sometimes wrongly, sometimes not), chalk up disappointments like Tuesday night in the lessons learned column, and then decide what he wants to do. If he still wants to quit, fine. That's his business. But I hope he doesn't make a rash decision he regrets later.
  21. Buckhorn beating PCC is an upset, but not a particularly big one. Buckhorn beating PCC by 33 is a stunner.
  22. There was no internal strife that I am aware of. At home, this team could, and did, hang with anybody. Sometimes, actually a lot of times, when on the road, they just didn't seem real interested, especially after the All A Regional last year.
  23. I could see Buckhorn winning the game, but 33 points? What the heck happened?
  24. This is probably one of the most unusual big rivalry you will ever see. The game is almost always fought tooth and nail, and the fans are very passionate in their particular rooting interest. However, there is never any trouble, no hard feelings among fans or players. I'll bet almost every Lee County fan will tell you that they are for Owsley from here on out. Go Owls!
  25. The team that deserved to win won. Congratulations Owls.
