I was at a game tonight (girls game, but no ones talking over there). There was a group of young men ( football team ) stationed just behind the opposing team. As the game went on the young men grew worse and worse. At one point the boys were bent over the girls yelling, screaming, mocking their coach in their huddle, within touching distance. The Principal and Assistant Principle were there, along with the AD of the school. They just watched. It grew so bad, the coach had his subs bring the chairs out on the floor just so he could huddle with his team. The boys were cursing loudly, showing how old they were on their hands and more by the end of the game. Is this acceptable? I know the school I attended and my kids attend would never have allowed this to occur at our gym without the kids being dispersed or thrown out. A certain amount of this is supporting your team, but this was really ugly. If my son was doing that, I would have drug him out of the gym by his ear. I know several fathers of the girls were getting pretty irate toward the end. How much do you think is too much? Just interested in opinions on this.

There is a little thing called having "fun" while doing it but there is a line that can be crossed that is too much...

It happens all over the state. It's that fine line between supporting your team and going to far. They went too far this evening by what you said.

I'm 32 and I have no connections to any high school in the state, yet there are certain teams I just love to root against. I would never resort to anything negative like that.

You would like to see fans root hard for their team, keep it clean and have fun. But we know that is hard to find sometimes.

The AD and/or principal should have put the punks in their place.

Sounds to me like they crossed way over the line and those in charge should have taken control...

Sounds like the admin should keep opposing fans from sitting behind the bench.

See the problem lies in the fact that some administration takes no action while other administration takes too much...

If the administration didnt do anything to stop this then they are to blame.

What would constitute taking "too much action"?

A technical foul should be have been called on the fans and the head coach should be called to the PA to address his teams fans. Repeat infractions should call for additional technicals, kicking the worst fans out of the gym and if necessary forfeiture.

I'll give credit to the 31st District folks. They blocked off the first 3 rows behind the bench for both teams so things like this wouldn't happen.

I am truly concerned about the behavior I see at some games. I was at the 56th district game -Powell vs. Estill- and some young Estill County fans were making very crude gestures toward Powell County fans. The Estill County principal saw it, and put an IMMEDIATE end to it. I don't know what he said, but to his absolute credit, he stopped it cold. These are games. Enjoy them. Part of the fun is supporting one team over the other, but some of the the people in the stands need to learn that there is no substitute for sportsmanship and good taste.

The school's administration needs to handle this. If they can't they don't need the job. If I were head coach I would bring it to the refs attention and refuse to play on until the situation was corrected. This problem is becoming more and more prevalent. If it were football players the football coaches need to remind those players how much fun it is to run until you puke when you are not gentlemen. This type of behavior can lead to altercations which become violent which none of us need.

I hate to sound like an old fogey, but I think this behavior is typical of what I see from this generation of children. Many of them have become desensitized to violence, language, drugs, sex, etc. by the constant bombardment of movies, tv, video games and music. But behavior such as those described here should not be tolerated by any adult in charge. I don't know what school you're taliking about but I would be willing to bet thatr this behavior goes unchecked during the school hours as well. It's a sad commentary, my friend

I was at the regional tournament one year, I won't say were, and the 10th region fans of the opposing team had a sign saying, "When I have a kid like(UNamed PLayer), I hope I do, so I can beat him everyday." That was kinda of a low class, knocleheaded act to do. Luckly their adminstration of that school stepped in and took the sign away form them, as well as the should have along with ejection from the Gym.
