  1. Maybe now Tyler's Dad, one of the best guys I know, will come back to eastern ky where he belongs so he can watch Tyler play!
  2. Lee opened the game very shaky, and fell behind 3-0, closed the lead to 4-3 in fourth and could have tied the game but for bad baserunning in bottom of fourth. Campbellsville drew away in last two innings as Osborne tired after throwing a ton of pitches. Lee, even though having, by any measure, a successful All A tournament needs to do a couple of things, in my opinion, to move to the next level in baseball. The schedule needs to be upgraded so that the Bobcats can see better pitching on a more consistent basis. I realize that weather and necessity to schedule around All A has caused cancellation of some games against better teams, but still a few more games against some tougher competition would help. Lee has one of the most beautiful and best tended fields anywhere, but the lack of lights probably hurts scheduling, particularly at home, as I would imagine teams are reluctant to travel very far to a game that starts at five or five thirty, that may or may not be done by dark, and which precludes j.v. games of more than an inning or so. That being said, congratulations to the team and coaches for a great run in the tournament, and I along with all those Lee County fans that were at Applebee's Park today will be pulling hard for a repeat later on this spring.
  3. I was scared to death when Powell's jv crushed a pretty good Lee County jv back in January. I thought that they had some great players coming up, and then basically the same team came onto the floor for the varsity. Powell should dominate the 56th and be a force in 14th on a regular basis, because of sheer numbers, but that just hasn't happened for some reason, because kids haven't been coming out, I guess, or transferring.
  4. Lee Leslie Powell PCC Estill LCC KCC Owsley Hazard Wolfe
  5. I don't think this loss or Lee County's recent loss really change the 14th region picture at all. It is next to impossible for any baseball team to play 30 or so games without getting beat sometime. Leslie and Lee both have beaten a rock solid Cumberland team in the last week or so, Cumberland obviously threw a top pitcher at Lee, being as the game was so important to both teams, and probably did the same against Leslie. Both teams can expect this, especially from region teams taking their best shot against top two contenders, and the going will just get tougher for both teams as the season goes on.
  6. Vote early and often, a great eastern Kentucky tradition!
  7. Not much o a 14th region "showcase" without either Leslie or Lee.
  8. Solid pitching performance by Jason Osborne, capped off by spectacular defensive play by Matt Eversole and Osborne, after Cumberland loaded bases in top of seventh. Cumberland centerfielder made one of best catches I have ever seen in high school game to rob Martin Hobbs of home run. Matt Eversole's bases loaded double in 3rd inning was difference. Great game. Lee advances to Applebee's Park next Saturday at 3 p.m.
  9. Didn't see the whole game, but the part I saw the pitching pretty much dominated on both sides, and the score would kind of indicate that. Thomas left LCC game early (moved to center field), other than that I have no information. He played center yesterday and made several long accurate throws.
  10. Powell pitched Benningfield, relieved with Muncie. Osbourne went distance for Lee. Osbourne got 3rd out strikeout with runners at second and third in top of the seventh. Great game between two of top three teams in region. I believe that in 14th it is Lee, Leslie, Powell and then the rest.
  11. I believe Lee will play Cumberland on April 22 at Lee. If so, I guess Garrard County game will be rescheduled
  12. I think Cumberland and Lee will play at Lee. Is that right? I think sometime next week?
  13. Right. Lee also left bases loaded in first and second, so both teams had trouble getting big hit. Clay is very solid team, and will be tough to beat at tournament time.
  14. Lee plays Letcher at Lee today and at Letcher on May 5. I believe Letcher also plays Estill at Lee today.
  15. Osbourne overcomes shaky start and Lee picks up big win. Could have been worse, as Martin Hobbs hit what appeared to be grand slam home run in first, field ump called fair, plate ump called foul. It looked fair to me, but my angle not that good. Quality win Lee has been looking for.
  16. Lee has had a couple of rainouts, and I believe that there are some rainout days built into 56th district schedule because of the seeding and the need to get all the games in.
  17. Big win for Powell. Next week's Lee/Powell game will be a big one for 56th district seeding.
  18. I dont know either. I got to game just as it was over, and didn't even walk around the outfield fence. I hope so, as Professor knows even though I am a big Lee County fan, I play around golf course with a bunch of Owsley's kids and sure don't want any misfortune for any of them.
  19. Letcher and Lee play Saturday, should be good one.
  20. Don't know, but I am sure Coach Combs had good reason. I would guess saving top pitcher for deeper in tourney? Again I would not ever second guess any decision Gene makes. He has proven conclusively he knows more than me.
  21. Pat Dad, any chance Saturdays game can will be made up?
  22. I am not sure about Knott County game, but it looks to me like you could put Perkins, Osbourne and Thomas in a sack, shake them up and not really be able to tell the difference. Josh Drake is next, he beat Cordia 9-1, and was probably who pitched against Knott last year, but again, not sure.
  23. Perkins pitched for Lee, Smith for Owsley. I got to game at end, and apparently Owsley made several crucial errors, and only run they scored o Perkins was on throwing error he made himself, so unearned. Like I say these are just reports I got from others there, so other than score and who pitched, can't personally vouch for accuracy. Lee is now 5-0, and has outscored opponents 54-6. Competition has not been the stiffest, but now that all a is over and if weather will cooperate, Lee can play some of the strong teams on schedule.
  24. Oh man, terrible news. Hope all goes well.
