Lee/Owsley Predictions District Tournament
BadCat replied to bball king's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Lee County has plenty of room for that banner, not won since 1989. The Bobcats will be ready. -
June Buchanan 63 Knott County Central 47
BadCat replied to The Professor's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Wow. That really opens up region a little more, as now no one will have to play Knott on their home floor, and in my opinion puts to rest debate as to whether or not JBS is a contender. -
I thought Stamper played better vs. Lee on friday, but Gilbert has the bad hand and probably a little stale yet from layoff.

One thing for certain, either Hazard or Perry Central is out in the frst round of 54th.

Lee/Owsley Predictions District Tournament

Bball king is an old geezer with a swag in his back too, so should be a real interesting sight. -
The only person here that has watched 56th district basketball longer than me is the Professor, maybe. Believe me when I say Lee County basketball was at the bottom. What Coach Wright has done is that he has completely revived interest in basketball, and has got the kids to stick with the program, rather than deciding at some point there is something they would rather do. He has made the team fun to watch, and certainly brings an unmatched passion to the game. His own coaching skills have improved tremendously over the past four years. True, the talent level is up, but would these kids still be around, and would they play has hard, but for Coach Wright?

Who is the POY in the 14th and explain why?

I agree with the Den. By any objective standard, Gilbert is the best. -
Lee/Owsley Predictions District Tournament
BadCat replied to bball king's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
If Lee County doesn't completely overlook Owsley the Bobcats will win, but they had best remember that this is the game that lets them advance to region, not the next one. -
What do you think? I say Danny Wright. When you think of where Lee County was (about 10 people at a game vs. Augusta in mid 90's), and where they are now (one of 14th Region favorites) I say he absolutely is deserving.

Top Players Now in 14th Region
BadCat replied to DirtySally's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Gilbert- Wolfe Hicks- Hazard Rich- Lee Berryman- Estill Stepp- JBS These are best that I have seen, I freely admit that I may well have left out players that I just simply have never seen play. -
Tough win for Bobcats. Chris Stamper is a top-notch player, that in my opinion doesn't get the credit due.

Last night I saw a piece on the news about an autistic kid in New York that was allowed to dress out for the last game of his senior year as a reward for four years of serving as a manager for the team. He got into the game and was able to score twenty points in less than four minutes (six three's and a two pointer). The absolute joy of his family, teammates and schoolmates was something to behold. I know of no other level of competetive sports where so many work so hard simply for the love of the game. This was a perfect example of what can happen sometimes when a bunch of kids play ball.

My favorite team and next favorite play Tuesday in District. No secret I pull for Lee, but I really want Owsley to work through its problems and succeed. Good win for the Owls, as Breathitt has improved. Owsley is a much better team with Neeley.

I don't think I've ever seen a high school tteam score 37 points in a quarter. Lots of 3's?

Letcher County Central 102 Owsley County 55
BadCat replied to The Professor's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Ouch. -
Lee County 76, LCA 55. Lee completely dominated game. Tyler Rich 26, Ken Brandenburg runs offense to perfection, Lee played defense like in regional All A.Big win for Bobcats, big win for 14th Region.

Breathitt Co. 73 Estill Co. 61
BadCat replied to TheFrontRowFan's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
I am a little surprised by score, but only a little. Breathitt is a much improved team, moore is an excellent player. Breathitt is the kind of young team that will only get better as experience toughens them up. -
Anybody got stats?
-
Did I read line score correctly-Powell had 20 point lead at half? What happened?
-
I agree with bball king. Why would Danny leave? He is just now making all the hard work pay off. Lee is not only good this year, but have some excellent young players developing. He is well thought of in the community, and has married a local girl. He was given a chance here, and I too believe his sense of loyalty will keep him from looking to move.

Coaching changes in the 14th
BadCat replied to bball king's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
The problem is that most small schools, out of necessity have to hire a coach that can do something else, like teach math. I know that you can hire "lay" coaches, but doesn't a teacher have to be around someplace? -
Coaching changes in the 14th
BadCat replied to bball king's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
True, old owl. The point I was making earlier was if he leaves, that Owsley shold look for someone that will stay awhile. If it is Mr. Smith, I certainly see no problem with that. -
Morgan Co. 82 Wolfe Co. 48
BadCat replied to Nothingbutnet's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
It has always been my opinion that extracurricular activities like sports, band, etc., makes kids more interested in school, teaches them discipline, and gives them a sense of accomplishment that only enhances the most important thing, academic achievement. I love it when kids like the ones at Morgan County prove me right!
