  1. Lee County 76, LCA 55. Lee completely dominated game. Tyler Rich 26, Ken Brandenburg runs offense to perfection, Lee played defense like in regional All A.Big win for Bobcats, big win for 14th Region.
  2. I am a little surprised by score, but only a little. Breathitt is a much improved team, moore is an excellent player. Breathitt is the kind of young team that will only get better as experience toughens them up.
  3. Did I read line score correctly-Powell had 20 point lead at half? What happened?
  4. I agree with bball king. Why would Danny leave? He is just now making all the hard work pay off. Lee is not only good this year, but have some excellent young players developing. He is well thought of in the community, and has married a local girl. He was given a chance here, and I too believe his sense of loyalty will keep him from looking to move.
  5. The problem is that most small schools, out of necessity have to hire a coach that can do something else, like teach math. I know that you can hire "lay" coaches, but doesn't a teacher have to be around someplace?
  6. True, old owl. The point I was making earlier was if he leaves, that Owsley shold look for someone that will stay awhile. If it is Mr. Smith, I certainly see no problem with that.
  7. It has always been my opinion that extracurricular activities like sports, band, etc., makes kids more interested in school, teaches them discipline, and gives them a sense of accomplishment that only enhances the most important thing, academic achievement. I love it when kids like the ones at Morgan County prove me right!
  8. Glad to see you agree with me on something, sixtyfeetsix, now I have a few other matters I need to convince you of. :thumb:
  9. If Paul smith doesn't return, Owsley needs to look for an enthusiastic young coach, and try to gat stabalized at the top position. Owsley has had top notch coaches in recent years, Charlie Turner, Larry Sparks and Tim Bobrowski, but has been kind of in a state of flux lately. I made the point on another thread that I saw similarities at Owsley, as what happened at Lee in the late eighties throughout the 90's, and one of those similiarities is no continuity in the head coaching position. I think Paul Smith knows what he is doing, and is a good Coach, but I have heard what sixtyfeetsix is saying from other folks in Booneville.
  10. Jackson has to be the favorite in the 55th, even considering Breathitt's improvement, and a legitimate 14th Region contender. Who would have expected that? Way to go, Tigers.
  11. Professor, I think tou are right about the year. 1984 team was one of the best ever for Lee, and the last I remember winning the Bobcats winning 20 games, and like you, I go back a while. The 5th starter was Mark Taylor, who was a real banger. Lee was really expacted to make some noise in the Sweet 16 that year, as they had played Bourbon County, the eventual State runner-up to what amounted to a draw at Bourbon County that year, before having one of the most disappointing losses (to Dilce Combs) in all my memory of high school basketball. Lee had a few more good teams after that, but I don't remember any 20 win years. The bottom really fell out in the early nineties for Lee, and really just now recovering. This is a little off thread, but I see some similarities at Owsley now, as to what happened at Lee. I hope it doesn't happen. A strong Lee-Owsley rivalry, and a 56th District with four nearly equal teams sure makes the long winter more tolerable, before we can get those sticks out again, right? Seriously, my friend, the folks at Owsley need to be real careful, and keep the situation there in check.
  12. Long, long time ago.
  13. I really think that sometimes players transferring from one school to another just for the purpose of playing a sport is as often detrimental to a team and the player as it is helpful. The kids that have playing time cut are resentful (as well as their parents), and I believe that fan expectations are unrealistic, putting way too much pressure on the transferring player. I hope that what has happened to a couple of schools in the area causes parents, coaches and the kids themselves to really think hard before they make such a serious decision, just for the purpose of basketball or any other sport, and make sure they are doing the right thing before making, or encouraging, a move.
  14. Didn't see Crowe mentioned in paper. Was he one of the ones that left team?
  15. No details, just heard end on radio. Things not going well for Wolves.
  16. This a hard fought game. Tyler Rich dominated inside, but Breathitt shot the eyes out. Breathitt will be tough in 55th.
  17. Well said professor. This is entertainment for us, but please remember, we are talking about kids. Why don't we just stop this, and get back to talking about whether Owsley or Oneida will win tonight. Owls by 10.
  18. District "losers" little harsh. Should have said runner-up. I'm not smart enough to edit my previous post, so please consider this an "edit".
  19. Its drawn. district winners will play district losers in first round. Teams from same district go on different sides of the bracket, so teams from same district can't meet until region finals.
  20. I don't underrate dixon and berryman, because i believe (and have for a while) that thay are the best two players on one team that i have seen this year. if anybody "up the road" is underrating them, then they are in for a big suprise when regional tournament time comes around.
  21. Those are the only three. Rich starts, but taulbee and witherspoon are big contributors.
