Beatty would never say that. He may not be perfect - who is? - but he would not say that to coach Wolfe. All accounts I heard were that H assistant coach Wakefield was the instigator, and that his involvement actually began after the 2OT win at T. To what degree anyone was responsible for any escalation we may never know. What I DO know is that it happened in front of the T bench, where the H folks should not have been. Those that I know who were down by the fence indicated that parents were as much to blame as anything.

T won last night on the road (against the team with both the best offense and the best defense in the district!) without their top receiver, one of their safeties, and Brooks at less than 100%. Another week to get healthy and I am thinking T takes this one. 33-21 Rocks.

Three different people I talked to (granted they were all Trinity people) said that coach Wakefield of H started it. But plenty of folks on both sides jumped in. It's easy to say that H should not have been over on the Trinity sideline (they had already shaken hands), but I have to believe if your season has just ended you really don't want to go to the locker room. I hope that it was the adult(s) who was out of line because I don't think any player on either team was looking for an altercation. In fact, the post game hand shakes appeared to be very cordial from my perspective. Such a tough loss for H. If ever a game could have gone either way, this one was it.

Someone asked me the other day if Trinity could win state this year WITHOUT Spaulding. (Not implying anything here; just a simple question of whether or not T would still be good enough with all that other talent.) I think they would still be right there.

I think this will be just like the game at Male in 2006 when Doug Beaumont was a senior. A game that could absolutely go either way. Both teams were dominant last week. H does have the home field advantage, but might face a little more pressure than last year in that they are SUPPOSED to win. Easily the best game to attend statewide this Friday.

Without Nero Manual can sneak up and beat anyone on a given night. With Nero they can still do it, but it is harder for them to sneak.

I would be quite surprised if 88 actually dressed for M. If they did, then 50+ kids got a front row seat to watch a playoff game. No need to wash those jerseys.

It's good for T because without first round games the Shamrocks would have been finished last week.

Any lower seed get a running clock on a higher seed besides T? Serious question.

I concede that it is HUGE for X, far and away the second biggest game on the schedule. All I'm saying is that if you ask any former or current player, "If you have to lose to either T or Cincy X and you will win the other, who would rather beat?", 99.9% of the Tigers will choose to beat T. Thus Cincy X is not "as big" as the T game. As a T fan I am betting the X schedule is going to be as good or better than T's next year simply because of the district foes and nothing else. The silly comment about X having a better relationship with local schools holds no water. T has Male & PRP on next year's schedule. Locals feel like T has come back to the pack and are willing to schedule again. Wish BG would do the same. I wouldn't throw a single stone at the 2015 X schedule. Kudos.

I'll use the logic of a national championship team in 2011 and another ridiculously good team in 2012 (Quick, Hatcher, Wright, Young, et al.) BG would be 2-2 at best the last four years and - as stated previously - has yet to EVER beat T. Also, T wanted to keep playing, but BG basically said "uncle". Funny thing is that anyone who knows me on this site knows that I am a big BG fan. Seriously. I come from the time when W.A. was principal, Matt Logic had a fired up baseball team, and Cannon Simpson drained about 10 3s per game. I am so not a BG hater, they just haven't hit the T plateau...yet. (Note: the 14-12 game was when T used a 4th string QB - actually a WR - and threw something like 8 passes total for the game. And still won on the road.)

How in the heck did my last post make it into this thread?! Back to the topic. This is a very, very , VERY good schedule.

For Avid: No way is the Cincy X game "as big" as the T game for X. Ask any player on this year's team if they would be just as happy this year if X would have lost to T and beaten Cincy X and I cannot imagine a single player would make that trade. For all the BG folks (and to a degree i am one): BG stopped scheduling T. Fine. I hated that on both fronts. But you cannot dodge the best team in the state for the past decade and then claim that you are the best team in the state. It doesn't work that way. And while I am not sure what the overall record of BG vs. T is, I am pretty sure - though not positive - that BG has never beaten T.

A buddy of mine from Henderson joked that they are not going by the "Colonels" this year, but rather the Henderson County Carters, LOL.

I haven't read this entire thread, but if there were no first round then 2 of the top five teams in the state (T & M) would be finished for the year.

X will beat BG in 2015. That is a really, really good schedule. Only hiccup (this was an issue for T & X last week) is that I don't know the logic of playing a big Cincy school in the final week when it may mean something to them, but not to the Louisville school.

I seriously think Will is doing much better this year. It takes a couple of years for the "out with the old and in with the new" to take root. However, I have maintained for a year now that if X had kept Glaser just one more season (last year), that Charles Walker & Co. would have brought the state title to Poplar Level Road. With Glaser there would have been no QB controversy and they would have worn teams down physically (including H, T, & Scott). And while this X team may not win it all this year (though they have to be a top 3 favorite to do so!), they should be in decent shape for years to come.

I mentioned earlier that soccer is the the most poorly officiated (top to bottom) of the 4 major HS boys sports. However, it is also probably the most difficult to officiate. To begin with you could have poor linesmen (or worse yet one good one and one poor one). Then when you have 2 teams with very different styles of play you have to not let that cloud your judgment. Finally if one team wants to play dirty away from the ball there is a very good chance that something gets missed, and to make matters worse the team that retaliates gets penalized. Really is a tough sport to call at a very high level.

I have no problem with a team taking advantage of an official allowing rough play. Not much different (ok maybe just a little different) than a pitcher taking advantage of an umpire with a big strike zone. That said, I have a pretty strong soccer background (I played D1) and I have said for years that of the 4 major sports (basketball, football, baseball, & soccer), soccer is by far the worst officiated sport at the high school level.

Heard it was a mudfest. Way to get through it Rocks!
