Breathitt County at Belfry
I didn't know if you meant "nothing special", as in not flashy, or "nothing special", as in not a very good offensive unit. Maybe I just saw the nothing special statement and ran with it, but I interpreted that as not very good.

If what you mean is that Belfry's offense is one that doesn't "WOW" you, I agree completely. I thought you might have meant that earlier, but I'm still not sure how 5wide meant it. He very well may have meant the same thing, but I'm 50/50 on it.

In my honest opinion, if you put him anywhere on the field he's going to make plays. And yes, I liked that look in passing situations. Very, very productive.

Your Emotional State in a Game
Calm, relaxed, and focused, and I'd like to think I played as hard as anybody on the field. Never got into the "bang your head" mentality, nor did I need any extra motivation to do what I felt was "my job". Business-like is probably how I would describe my approach to a game, or the mental preparation of the game. I will say that I felt the emotion of big games (got the chills a time or two), but I honestly don't think it ever affected my play one way or the other. Didn't talk unless something needed said, which is ironic because my mouth is pretty much running all the time unless I'm typing on here. Last thing, and I'm just mentioning this because I'm curious about other people. I only remember hearing the crowd one time in my entire football career. I'll keep that one time to myself because its kind sentimental. But I never heard the cheers, the jeers, the horns, the bells, the band, or anything other than the whistle. Actually, I really don't remember hearing those very much, but I knew when a play was dead.

I think the both of you would be surprised. There isn't a guy on Belfry's roster with near the speed of guys like Jones, Howard, Josh Gross, Jon Chapman, or Jason White, but this offense has executed as well as any Belfry offense I've seen in big games. The play of the offensive line is as good as you'll find anywhere in the state, and if you give big backs like May & Lee open space by the 3rd quarter DBs will be looking for a way not to make a tackle. Up front the o-line has handled everyone they've played with ease, imo. Quarterback Andrew Elkins is poised, smart, and does a good job of running the show. I was telling someone the other day that a great QB at Belfry is hardly noticed, but an average QB will look like a fool because regardless of what it looks like the offense is complex, requiring precision on every play & sound decision making the entire game when ran correctly. Elkins and '03 QB Paul Howard probably run this offense as good as any Belfry QB I've seen personally. Defensively, the kudos have been given all around & are well deserved. Again, not blinding speed anywhere, but you won't find a kid who doesn't move well either. What you will find is 11 guys who like contact, and play assignment football with aggression. Very rarely are they caught out of position, and they punish ball carriers. One more thing...If you haven't seen Belfry junior LB Charlie Dotson play, he alone is worth the price of admission. He's full-throttle from the start of the whistle and makes big plays when big plays are needed. I can't say enough about him and plenty of others, but he's a joy to watch.

Lone Oak quarterback breaks national record!
I don't see how he isn't Mr. Football. Travis Atwell came out of nowhere and won the award in a field similar to this one, talent wise. This kid's numbers are more impressive than Atwell's in my opinion.

Worst/Most Boring 1st Round Ever?
How about a 1-3 playoff versus a different district with the #1 seed getting a bye and one-third of the first round gate? Gives you something to play for, the same amount of playoff games, and a weeks rest for a job well done.

Johnson Central 48 Bryan Station 27 (5A)
They'll come around...Football weather takes a little more preparation and a little more enticing. But once they become used to it, the atmosphere at a football game is contagious. Also, the cheerleading squad, boosters, and the admininstration have to be on the wagon as well or community support is just average. JC is on the right track though...give it time & keep putting out quality football teams. That's all you can do.

Really reaching for a compliment there, huh? Magoffin will get better, but it will take time.

I'm Glad That's Over!
This is the first time I've missed a playoff football game in...heck, I really don't remember the last time that happened. Thankfully, it is over and we can move on to another REMATCH, but at least it will be a better game. Sorry, just wanted to vent.

Is the 9 TD throws anywhere near a record?

Final Four in Class 3A
Belfry (As solid a team as you can ask for from top to bottom) vs Russell (I will never bet against an Ivan McGlone coached team) Central (More athletes than anyone in 3A) vs Russellville (Dark Horse)

Louisville Central is.......
....a team that could win the 3A title.

I Need At Least 300 Responses To This
It's not really a playoff when everyone makes it, or a 1-9 team can get there.

From what I've seen his height could be an issue. I'm going to guess and say approximately 6 feet.

Trashing??? I asked if he was the one who dropped two nicely thrown passes last night. How is that trashing? Did I make something up that didn't happen? He's a nice player, and I hope he goes D-I. But I didn't see anything D-I from anyone on the field last night for either team. What I saw was two well-coached, hard-nosed football teams going at it who happen to have more than a few solid high school football players. All of this D-I talk is getting out of hand, and I'll admit I've been guilty of letting it fly more than I should, too. But nowadays anytime a kid is an exceptional high school football player people go around talking loosely about how this kid and that kid are D-I material. The truth of the matter is that getting a D-I scholarship is a rare thing, and speculation about a kid's chances of getting a D-I scholarship should be kept to a minimum.

Lone Oak quarterback breaks state record!
Congrats young man! No matter the system you play in this is an impressive record and puts your name up there with some people who've made long lasting impressions on KY high school football.

I never implied that you were making excuses, nor did I intend to. I was just saying that the better team won, and I would have said that if Johnson Central had won, too. If you want to disect the turnovers we can, and I guess I'll start it off. The first two picks were not horribly thrown passes (they weren't great either), but Belfry's DBs made great plays on both of them. The kickoff return after the first TD was a bad mental error, the kid never should have dove for the ball, but even it didn't turn out to be as bad as Grimm slipping to his knees fielding the kick in the second half. The third INT was a result of the QB forcing a throw that wasn't there, a very bad decision. That's 4 turnovers and as far as I know the turnover ration was 4-to-1 in Belfry's favor.
