Ashland and East Carter will be good next year. I think Raceland will be good with Vanderhoof back and the big girl. Don't kid yourself about Coach Kidwell of Russell, though he lost I believe 3 players from this season. If Thomas leaves I think it could really hurt Rowan County next season just because of his drive and energy that he feeds to his players. Assistant coach, Ronnie Cornett, told me that Coach Thomas is a man obsessed when they practice everyday. He said his energy level is something to see. Dives on the floor to show a drill, will take a charge to show a drill, and will even run with his girls when they have to do sprints. WOW!!! I've witnessed about 10 of his practices over the 3 years and not one time did his team do any shooting. I can understand why they are a "bad shooting team" Ha! But whoever comes in I can guarentee his team won't practice defense the way his has done at Rowan County. It could be a person who is offensivley minded which is good because I know you have to score to win. Coach Thomas' philosophy has always been if a team scores 2 points and he scores 3 points they are supposed to win. I think Ashland, East Carter, Raceland, Russell, Morgan County, and Fleming County will be good as well next season.

I can guarentee that Coach Thomas would get it done at MSU. He is so relentless and loves basketball more than anyone that I have ever seen. A friend of mine said he went over to his house one time and he said Coach Thomas had basketball plays drawn in his bathroom, kitchen, living room, dining room, and even is his bedroom. The man is obsessed with basketball. I know Coach Thomas has passion and love for the game like I've never seen. I actually have talked to Lake Kelly one time and Coach Kelly told me that Coach Thomas reminds him of Rick Stansbury (now at Mississippi State) who used to be an assistant coach under Lake Kelly. Coach Thomas would be a coach who could stay at Morehead and not use it as a stepping stone. I can guarentee that he would have the BEST DEFENSIVE team in the OVC.

If Rowan's Troy Thomas returns next season, I will have to say they will definitely be in the hunt. Rowan will have really good guards for next season with their pressure defense. Coach Thomas will get it done!

Never coached just enjoying retirement now. Love to watch basketball in the region.

I think you have a lot of great coaches in the 16th Region. Coach Kidwell is a fanstastic coach. He's a tremendous x and o coach and has been great for Russell. Very well respected by all coaches in the 16th region. 2 Regional finals/2 Region semi-finals Coach Euton from Rose Hill has done fabulous at Rose Hill. 2 Regional Championship plus state runner-up. Wow!! I know there are a lot of coaches that would love to be in that category. Coach Trimble is a fantastic coach who had a wonderful year at Raceland. His team was very sound offensively and ran numerous of patterns. They had a good group of girls with Seals, Vanderhoof, and Porter sisters. Coach Trimble is a very classy person who loves the game. Great things are ahead for Coach Trimble. Coach Easterling is a coach who gets the most out of his players every year. Everyone know that Coach Easterling and his staff are great coaches and that are always in the hunt every season. He has been a tremendous asset to East Carter and the program that he has built. His teams are very good defensively and offensively. 200 wins + and counting. They are going to be good for the next several years a lot of young talent ahead for East Carter. Coach Fraley is another tremendous coach who has won a 16th regional championship and has been to the finals at least 3 or 4 times. His teams play hard every game and every coach knows that you better be ready to play when you play Boyd County. They are very aggresive and have intentness. Coach Bill Bradley is a coach that is going to have some talent for the next several years. Coach Bradley is a great x and o coach that loves to shoot 3's. Runs great sets to get the players he needs to score. Watch out for this team for the next couple of years. Coach Bradley did a tremendous job at Ashland this season. Coach Jeff Brown has totally changed the girls b-ball program at Morgan County. They will be very good for the next several years to come. He is a very hard working coach that gives it his all everyday. He will have Morgan County in the hunt for the next 2 seasons. Coach Von Perry is another great coach in the 16th Region that has her girls in the hunt every year. She's a coach that has been under one of the best girls coaches in KY in Hop Brown. The tradition has been established at WC. Every coach knows that they better play their A game when they play WC. She will get out most out of her players every season. Coach Kristi Orem is a good coach that has her teams playing hard every season. They have some good young talent coming up at Fleming County. Her teams plays great defense and they are so aggresive. She will be good next season with Bernard, Allex, and Price returning. Coach Orem does a tremendous job with her girls and has established a good program at Fleming County. Every team must play their best when they are playing Fleming County. Very good defensively. Coach Jessica Holt is a coach that did such a remarkable job this season. Her teams played so hard for 32 minutes and she deserves a lot of credit for a job well done at Lewis County. Very intense and shows love for the game. Those girls are lucky to have someone like her at Lewis County. Her team will be very good for the next 2 seasons at Lewis County. There will be a lot of good things ahead for Coach Holt. Coach Cantrell did an awesome job this year for Elliott County. He has really stepped the Elliott County program up this year. His teams were known to shoot a lot of 3's this past season. He will have some good talent returning next season. A great coach who has passion for the game. Elliott County made a great hire in getting Coach Cantrell. A coaching guru! Coach from Menifee, Rowan, Greenup, and Fairview all do a great job as well. Kids that play basketball for all these coaches in the 16th Region are very grateful and thankful to have good coaches in their lives. Its not so much about winning the BIG TROPHY or getting COACH OF THE YEAR, its all about directing young individuals in the right path.

Matt Daniel is a great kid that is very well respected in the community of Morehead. He will be a great asset to Cumberland. You will see as he grows and gets stronger that some other colleges will miss the boat on this kid. He will get stronger and will get even better. 6'4" and point guard who can shoot and handle the basketball. You don't see many kids like that anymore......

Rowan Co. : Matt Martin, Sr., LHP Laken Johnson, Jr., RHP

Rowan held Fleming to 3 field goals the first half and 19 points going into the 4th quarter. Rowan's defense was phenominal for 3 quarters pressuring Fleming's guards. Rowan got a little relaxed in the 4th quarter and Fleming County made a nice run scoring 21 points in the 4th quarter. Cassidi Spurlock was 8 for 8 from the floor and was named MVP of the tournament. Fleming played really well in the 4th quarter.

I've been a Viking fan for 46 years and I can say that the Lady Vikings played their guts out against North Hardin. North Hardin was so athletic but Lady Vikings didn't give up at all. Cassidi Spurlock played well despite her being in a car wreck on Thursday morning and her hands all taped up. Hope Brown, who has already committed to Western Kentucky is a very good player.

Lady Vikings get a huge win tonight against a good Clark County basketball team. Lady Vikings forced 32 turnovers with outstanding defense. Clark County only got beat by Montgomery County by 4, Mercy by 1, and already beat Mason County. Lady Vikings played great defense tonight that really frustrated the Lady Cardinals the entire game. Great win for the Lady Vikings. I'm sure Coach Thomas has to be pleased with his team's effort. Get well Coach Thomas from the Lady Viking fans. Coach Ronnie Cornett has taken over the Lady Vikings which has done an excellent job in replace of Coach Thomas. :thumb:

Coach Troy Thomas head coach of the Lady Vikings will be out for a while with Epididimitus which he has been battling for a while. Word from Rowan County administrators that he is on bed rest because of the severe pain. Coach Thomas can't walk, run, stand, or do any type of extracurricular activities due to his pain that he is having. Coach Thomas had an MRI done today and is taking medication at this time. Our prayers are definitely with Coach Thomas and we hope you make a full recovery and get back on the sidelines coaching your butt off and coaching that defense. Heard that assistant coach, Ronnie Cornett will be the person in charge of taking over the Lady Vikings for the time being. Coach Cornett coached the Lady Vikings against Morgan County about 2 weeks ago earlier while Coach Thomas was out.

Louisville Christian Academy very athletic and talented. One girl name Slaughter who has a sister that plays for U of L girls team and brother plays for WKU men's team, she is going to be a big time Div 1 player. Rowan held her to 7 points and did force LCA to 22 turnovers in their press but Christian Academy was very athletic.

My advice to any new official....Learn the game...and the real world of officiating first...then learn the rule book. "No coach is ever impressed with your knowledge of obscure rules". Been there. Done that. Got the T shirt.

That's odd, I didn't see any, and I was looking for it too. I think the refs called a great game, just my opinion.

Hey!! Some comments about the Game. As "chicken hearted eagle" said, there were some weird, or wild moments, asi in most big rival games. The Lions stepped up to the challenge, and the Tomcats met it. Also, as said by "Tomcat Fan", I don't feel like either team played their "A" game, turnovers, and penalties, on both sides of the ball. Questionable penalties? Depends on what side you are on. The refs did a good job, kept the game under control, but let'em play too. I hope both teams do well in the playoffs.

JC is the real deal as cvillecat just said, Boyd is improving, but JC is just too good this year.
