I understand Deuce is out with a hamstring injury. Apparently he was sent to U of L's training center for analysis. Having a broken thumb would also make it tough to play.

Didn't notice any, but I am confident they were represented. According to their own staff, they have attended previous Scott County/Trinity scrimmages.

Williams and Hart and I believe Kaelin were the main Trinity DBs. I understand this week the Duttons are getting some more work at DB. Earlier, someone asked me to point a finger at a particular kid and I won't do this. I believe it's a violation of the "prime directive":D Another asked for the official scores.....Once again: Varsity level: Scott County 16, Trinity 15 in three quarters. JV played controlled scrimmage and it was 18-6 Trinity as no PATs were attempted. No freshmen scrimmaged each other. Scott County may have played some freshmen in the JV portion. Jordan Whiting wore number 98 and will wear 38 in regular season. I believe he made five consecutive tackles(or at least assisted) in one series in the JV portion. Yes, Varsity portion 16-15 Scott County and JV Trinity 18-6 as no PATs were attempted in this portion. Noticed that Manual staffers left at halftime. Also noticed Mr. Coverdale did not call any intermediate pass patterns(no 10-20 yard routes). According to "Stats", Petrino was 6-12 for around 65 yards. He did rush for 48. The varsity did a little extra running Saturday morning, with the offense doing more wind sprints. I was disappointed as I have witnessed every Trinity scrimmage with Scott County through the years. I expected much more from an offense that has averaged 41 points per game since 2000. One defender got burned a couple of times and I'm sure the coaches will have his attention. The flea flicker (double handoff and then lateral to QB who then completed a long post pattern pass) was probably a little pay back for the two point conversion (Scott County failed to cover wideout on PAT). The fact Scott County did have one scrimmage under their belt may have aided their cause. The same will be true when Trinity opens with MBA, so c'est la vie!("that's life" for those BGPers who didn't take French). It's not quite time to "fire them all":thumb:

That is super. This will make broadcasts available to those serving overseas, etc. Also, many fans may return to wearing their radio headsets and listen to the broadcast while watching the game in person...just to pick up all the little things......

Bishop David had some very talented teams in the 70s and a good head coach in Denny Nash. They probably should have won one. My all-time vote would also go to Boone County.

Maybe this is a chance to split or rotate venues. Schedule three games each at two sites and then see who makes the finals. Then schedule the best location for the surviving teams. You could mix them up A, AAA, AAAAA in one and AA, AAAA and AAAAAA in the other location and then rotate annually. Honestly, Georgetown, Bowling Green and Richmond could handle most of the crowds. If they stay in Louisville, then two games each for three days should work. Why is this seen as such a hassle when basketball and baseball tournaments held in Lexington over four days doesn't cause a stir?

Will WKRD cover the playoffs and finals even if St. X is knocked out of the competition?

I would doubt they are allowed under KHSAA rules to have a separate scrimmage unless each varsity squad only had one other scrimmage. They can be part of the regular scrimmage which I believe is limited to a certain amount of time (3 hours?) My understanding is each school is allowed 2 scrimmages in football. I know the KHSAA counts FROSH baseball scrimmages against varsity or total scrimmages allowed per school because a head varsity coach had to serve a one game suspension for having too many scrimmages in one pre season.

I agree, but I will continue to compile as much information as possible. To me the 1958 is cut and dried as Flaget went to Highlands as the #2 in litratings and the Birds were #1. The following year saw the dawn of playoffs here. In Ohio, they relied on Litkenhous until 1972! It's for fun and it is interesting to note that Trinity's starting QB in 1956 weighed 145 lbs and St. X 160, Flaget 165. The Courier Journal listed lineups, until 1956, then changed to the more familiar box score we see nowadays. Maybe down the road, the disputed years can be judged on this website based on comparative scores and any other info I can come across. Once I have more complete information at my fingertips I'll pass along the tidbits. Attendance for the 1958 Rotary Bowl was estimated at 6,000. Not bad!

Thanks for the input. I'll continue research using the Courier Journal. 1957 was St. Xavier's second state title according to the Litratings in the CJ. The Rotary Bowl was held in 1957 and St. X did not participate. Male was recognized by the CJ in 1954. Since the Courier paid for the Litkenhous rating system that's the one they recognized in their sports section. There was no AP poll apparently. The All-state teams were voted on by coaches and the media and these were sent in to the CJ and tabulated. Some seasons multiple teams went undefeated. So there could be room for dispute. Games against out of state competition were not included (and still are not included) in the CJs ratings.

Mythical Champions:Prior to 1959, I have the following based on Courier-Journal's published use of the Litkenhous ratings. All were considered one class. Louisville Central, old Lexington Dunbar, Henderson Douglass, Paris Western....became members in good standing of the KHSAA in 1958. 111 schools were listed in 1956. 140+ in 1958. Sean told me the greenies are larger than last year with 12 players 6' or better. May not have the speed of RBs. Down to three QBs, one of which should develop into a good varsity leader. Roughly 90 players remain. Intrasquad scrimmage Saturday morning at 9:30AM at the practice field.

State population has grown since the 1970s. Therefore, more classes does not truly water down a title.

Since most of the Trinity supporters have posted , I feel compelled to add my two cents worth. Jr to be Donavan Sims is enrolled at Trinity. He has moved from Jeffersonville and is awaiting word on his eligibility for this season. I understand soph Carrico was moved to RB yesterday. If Kirksey and Phillips progress, then the RB position will be filled. Coach Coverdale will use empty backfield sets more often this season. I feel Petrino gives the Rocks the edge as the only returning starting QB of the big three. I believe the AP poll will reflect this. Male's JVs were not impressive last season in the two games I witnessed. The 9 man front defense Male uses will work against most schools, but not all. The last time Male won $a, they had Jones and Bush and I don't see any D-1 skill folks besides Beaumont and he is in the same boat as Anderson as far as size. St. X will be hard to beat in their district as usual and they have talent at RB and both lines. I was told QB Zoeller is healthy by the head man himself at the Greater Louisville Football Coaches Association banquet last Friday.

In my opinion, Anderson is a wideout in the making for Divison One. I simply do not see him bulking up enough to handle the beating in the Big East.

Simply put, football requires more players than any other sport. You need at least 11 starters. The next step is you may want some larger/heavier kids for the line. You need quicker kids for backfields, etc. More variety is needed to be successful, therefore the larger the population of the school, the better the chance of enticing the right size kids to come out and give football a shot. Baseball can be dominated by one talented pitcher. Basketball can be dominated by one or two great players. A superb goalie and one scorer in soccer could spell success. Football still takes 11 guys working together trying to outplay the opposing 11. A great running back still needs a line to make holes. A great QB is useless without guys who can catch and other guys who can block.

Due to difference in enrollments, I endorse the move to 6 classes. Many larger states that use this number of classifications have many more teams that share similar enrollments. Let's face it, outside Jefferson, Fayette and the Boone, Kenton, etc (Northern KY) areas, there isn't much population to go around. Personally, this opens up the scheduling for Trinity and that's awesome. This also places less emphasis on regular season and teams can try more new game plans during the regular season without the fear of missing the playoffs. If a star goes down early, the team can hope he's back in time for the playoffs. I feel it's a win for evryone, including those who may lose in the first round because they get to share in the gate for an 11th game! This also modifies the great debate on how to split up the game times at Papa John's for the finals:D

In Indiana, all football teams make the playoffs. To my knowledge all KY basketball, baseball, volleyball, softball teams, etc who are members in good standing with the KHSAA and who choose to pay for the privilege of competing for the State title are included.

You're right on it. Unless a corporate sponsor like the hospital in Lexington underwrites the whole show, financial limitations could keep the Rocks from hosting multiple games. Also, it is a strain on staff members. The $10.00 per ticket average price tag for the fans for this type of bowl shouldn't be a stumbling block. It may be a more difficult to get quality opponents to venture into Marshall Stadium. The Rocks will be venturing to Cincy and or Indy as well as possibly home and home with Cov Cath in the near future according to staff members. The guarantees from Cincy area bowls are pretty good and the exposure is nice. As soon as the 6A is ratified, then the Rocks can enter serious negotiations with several schools/ bowls.

If the larger public schools want to compete in football championships, then they must look at those who want to continue to build more schools, including the teachers and adminsitrators, who are creating more jobs for themselves. Indiana has some public schools with 5000 students! They compete with schools that have "only" 2500 students in football. Ohio has large schools. Most states do. Before 1975, when Southern High School had Phil Simms and more than 2500 students, they competed quite well against the privates which had between 800 and 1000 boys. Since then, the Jefferson County Public School District has adopted a policy of smaller is better while Trinity and St. X have continued to grow and are at maximum capacity now and turning out pretty good people. Did Lexington really need to build Dunbar? Does Oldham County need North Oldham and another school in the plans? Warren County is building another school. Was Ryle really needed? Another school for Boone Co? What's wrong with 2000 or 2500 students sharing space? If they attend a large college like Ohio State (60,000) or UK (20,000+), will they feel overwelmed?

The map on the KHSAA website shows some sanity. I must say the KHSAA hit Jefferson County right on. You can draw district lines several ways. The current proposal meets all criteria as far as distance within the county. If you don;t like it, contact your local KHSAA board member and let them know your feelings. If the 2/3 majority doesn;t like it and they can convince the boarc of control, then they will redraw it. The main thing now is something must be done as soon as possible so teams can make scheduling arrangements.

I'm loving this one!!!!! 7 open dates!!!!! Shelby County gets what they wanted, away from Trinity. Oldham County gets what they wanted...away from Trinity:D . The Butler, Manual , PRP district will be hotly contested. St. X or Trinity will the the 6A favorite. Holy cow, no private schools to dirty up the 5A. Cov Cath, Boyle Co or Lex Cath will be the 4A... Highlands will dominate the 3A. 2A looks to be the most competitive to me... 1A Beechwood will reogn.....

Fairdale High School will announce Jonathan Miller as their interim head coach for the coming season on Monday. He is currently the running backs coach at Butler High School and is one of the better young coaches in Jefferson County. This marks his 6th school in 5 years and he hopes this assignment will last awhile. My understanding is "Red" Wright will no longer be allowed to serve as a head coach in Jefferson County for the forseeable future. Best of luck to both men.

Oldham County School District has acquired the property to build a fourth high school closer to the Shelby County line. I understand the folks there want 4 teams in the same 2A district or at least all 4 in AAA.
