Best Teams Not to Win A State Title

Featured Replies

I was wondering about this the other day and what are some of the best programs in the entire state not to win a state title? Locally I can think of Lawrence County and Prestonsburg. Any others?

In western Kentucky, the first one that comes to mind is Warren Central.

Are we speaking of programs overall here, or specific teams that did not win a title in a given year?

I think programs overall.

Lawrence Co, Pburg and Rockcastle are the 1st three that come to my mind.

Has Bowling Green won it all?

Boone County fits the bill, now that this has been clarified.

Owensboro Catholic would fit the bill, although the Aces probably haven't been a premier program for as long as some others.

In the interest of clarity, this thread should probably be renamed "Best Programs Not to Win a State Title."

I don't know Lousiville Central's history but they seem to always have a nice team that flies under the radar every year.

Two teams that don't have a LONG tradition but both have a lot of nice things going for them is Scott County and Dunbar.

If Louisville Central had the right coach, they could dominate with the talent they have.

The year they had Alexander they should have won it, but apparently they hadn't been informed of the forward pass rule.

Somerset, with all the talent they had in the 70's, 80's, and early 90's. Also, one of the best Coaches, in John Cain.

Exactly! If we go by teams I could easily say St.x this past year.

However, you cant leave out the 99 squad and last years team!
