I totally agree. Had Russell won he would be talking about how overrated they were and how good Russell is, but since the loss came on the Devils end, it was just an extreme mismatch and unfair. 1. Mercer County - Won the 2A title fair and square. 2. Russell - Close but no cigar 3. Belfry - Solid ball club, had a great year. May is a hoss. 4. Western 5. Middlesboro These were all solid team but too bad only won can win it all. Congrats to all these teams. All are class act programs and have nothing to be ashamed of. Good luck next season. Bell County always has a quality program. Although Im not sure I dont feel that their final game repersented them as well as it should have, and thats taking nothing away from RockCastle. Bell will be a contender next year, they like Ashland have had a murderous district to get out of. Im not sure how things work out now. But good luck to Bell County on a great year of Football next season. Eastern Kentucky is repersented well, Yoter

I was at the game and for 3 quarters what a game it was! Cov. Cath. is a great Football club. Good season JC. Already for my Tomcats to make the trip to Paintsville next year. The East lie in the Hands of the Devils, Yoter

Always great to see an Eastern Kentucky team playing for the Title. I pull for the Devils in all their games but one. Coach McGlone is one of the best if not the best in the State. Theres no tricks just a dare for the opposing team to try to stop him. I think Mercer County is the better team, does that mean they will win, No. Russell will have to play their best game, Defense will have to be flawless. And when the offense has opportunities to score its a must. I hope its an injury, and conflict free game. Good luck to both teams, but hopefully the Devils bring it home. I hope Mercer County didnt see the Ashland film... Yoter

Ahh Rivalry Threads. I love them. This one is almost as good as the thread after the Russell game was. Congratulations to both teams. IMO both have had succesful seasons. My personal salute to Coach Evans, he is a class act and has done wonderful things with these young group of Lions and will continue to do great things. Ugly game by the Cats but you still came out with the win. Good luck to both programs next week, may it be injury free. Tomcats lets get back on track and start playing to our ability. Great Post JC Alumni 76, I agree totally that a 3 or 4 touchdown route of the Tomcats would make a huge statement. However, I think a lot at Johnson Central and perhaps elsewhere in the state are over looking Ashland. Raceland is a solid team, should Ashland have gotten beat by them? Thats an argument for another day. Belfry, 2 out of the last 3 2A state championships were won by the Pirates, and is my favorite to win the crown this year. Russell, 2005 state champs, and one of the best running backs in the state. Mason County, a solid 3A program and Very underestimated, The Royals will be in the hunt for the District I assure you. With this schedule the Tomcats have rallied to a 6-1 start, the best since 1990. A 3 or 4 touchdown win for the Eagles? I love ruffling feathers, Yoter

Very, Very sloppy game by the Tomcats. IMO even the rally in the second half was sloppy. These games are only going to get harder and you cant roll in the playoffs dropping 7 balls a game. But good teams win while playing badly and thats what we did last night. Good luck to Mason Co. in the rest of District play. You are a VERY dangerous team and no one better over look you. UKCATSFAN, that is how he sees the game. Dickie is a good guy. He would give you the shirt off his back and would tell you how it is too. He loves Ashland, just like everyone else loves their home and team. Like its been said, you either love him or hate him, but you cant argue where his loyalties lie or that hes the best there is. I think I speak for a lot of the Ashland faithful when I say I will never over look a team again. Our one loss thus far shows us that we are beatable, even in our save house of Putnam. That being said I dont think Ashland will over look anyone. Greenup has improved tremendously, and like their Head Coach said in the paper, they have momentum. This is a huge game for Greenup. Ashland, Johnson Central and Mason County ( Order not implying anything ) are the only teams that are looking solid in our District. If Greenup was to pull the upset Friday night that puts them right back in the hunt for things. If Ashland wins, well they were supposed to win. Its another of those frequent casseof Ashlands opponet has nothing to loss while Ashland everything. I think the Cats come out looking to send a statement to the rest of the District. I understand your view oneijoe. Prestonsburg HAS been a competitive game for Ashland. I, however, dont belive that the... "rivalry" for lack of a better word is good for these two programs. We saw a young man get injured last week and could have seen more. The Prestonsburg/Ashland games seem to get a little intense and may need a few years to cool off not only for the players but for the coaches and fans as well. Looking forward to playing Pburg again in the future, Yoter

You sound as confident as Russell did and... well we know. It will be a good game, and Im looking forward to the trip. Field goals are just as important as touchdowns sometimes. Points are points, and it doesnt matter if you win by 1 or 100. I guess the game that would have to stick out in my mind would be the Ashland/Ironton game that was decided by 1 point. Right down to the very last it couldve gone either way and a field goal settled the affair. Hence the name "FOOTball", Yoter

I would like to wish Coach Evans and the Lions luck in their District opener. Lee Evans is a class act and I have a tremendous amount of faith that he will have the Lions back on the proul soon. Going to miss Boyd in District play next year, Yoter

Great win for Greenup. Its always nice to see fellow District teasm do well. I think this program is on its way back into the thick of things. Maybe not this year but soon. Looking forward to the Musketeers coming to Putnam Stadium in two weeks. Ready for District play, Yoter

Ashland has to start Starting games and not just finishing them. I think they would find that would make things much easier. As sloppy as this game was, defense and offense, we still ran the ball. Thats one of the most promising things Ashland has done in the last couple of years. We've made good runs in the playoffs these last 3 or 4, and those with virtually no running game. All of Ian Holbrook's teams had to rely on the pass, maybe that wont be the case come playoffs, it certainly hasnt been the case thus far since Russell. This game IMO will resemble last week a lot. Last years Portsmouth West game at Putnam was a Blowout. Last years Prestonsburg game at Putnam was a Blowout. Both of these team need/ed, want/ed revenge on the Tomcats. We have taken care of business in one of these contests and now the test will be can we do it again. Good teams win close games, Good teams also win games they are supposed to win. With Thomas running hard, The line blocking hard, this team is looking better and better each week. Lets hope they step up to the test and continue to get better in preperation of District play. Looking forward to meeting the Blackcats, Yoter
