Respectfully, I think Henry Clay could play any of a number of quarterbacks and win this game handily. Madison Central has taken a football nose dive in the last five or six years.

Having seen both of them play in Lexington, I like Simon Kenton to win this one.

Simon Kenton had trouble with Henry Clay's skilled speed in last year's contest. I have not seen Simon Kenton this season, but I do know that Henry Clay has been making a lot of mistakes this season. They are very beatable, but I can not comment on if Simon Kenton has what it takes to win on the road tonight. This shapes up to be an interesting match up.

Centerville is a wealthy community south of Dayton, Ohio. They have excellent athletic teams in most sports and top-notch athletic facilities. Their football teams have been dynamite since back in the middle 70's. Their trademark is a very aggressive defense and the old Veer/option offensively. NFL players Mike Nugent (Kicker) of the Cincinnati Bengals, A.J. Hawk (LB) of the Green Bay Packers, and Nick Mangold (Center) of the New York Jets all are from Centerville. Mangold played his high school football at Kettering Alter which has long been known as an Ohio basketball power. Jim and John Paxson of NBA fame played high school basketball for Alter before becoming all-Americans at Dayton and Notre Dame, respectively. Centerville's most famous alum is none other than Kirk Herbstreit who played quarterback for the Elks and Ohio State before becoming famous on the ESPN Gameday set.

Tates Creek has improved by leaps and bounds over the last couple of years. To me, they are the team to beat in Lexington this season. I think the Commodores win this one going away.

Terry Gates was not on the 1977 championship team. He graduated in 1976. Jeff Lamp, Lee Raker, Jerry Eaves, Curtis Jeffries, Norman Miller, and John Siler were the first six on that team. Others include David Stanley, Martin Dunbar, Russ Hilsher, Kenny Davis, _____ Henry, Greg Smith, Al Miller, _____Morris, and David Hixenbaugh.

I haven't seen him on the gridiron, but from the size and athleticism I see from Ballard's DeVante Parker on the basketball court, he looks to be a great receiver prospect.

Here is the difference. From a players perspective, it is an ultimate honor in the state of Kentucky to make it to the Sweet Sixteen in basketball. Playing in Rupp Arena in front of thousands of fans. I have always seen making it to the Sweet Sixteen in basketball as the prestigious equivalent of being a football state champion in a state that recognizes SIX champions. I always liked the Bermuda grass field at Boyle County. I thought it was one of the better natural surfaced fields in Kentucky. Why go to the expense of the change?

I have not, nor do I care to. I love everything about the high school state basketball championship in Kentucky. It is a fabulous venue and model. In a year when the smallest classification high school won the state championship in Kentucky, I think the few in favor of multiple champions for basketball have even less of an argument than they might have had in past seasons.

It is the greatest tournament in high school sports. Arguably, in the entire country. Ask some of the Indiana folks what they think of their new classification system in basketball. Every single Hoosier I have talked to wishes to get their state basketball tournament would go back to the Kentucky way. It is the best. Leave a great thing alone. The KHSAA needs to fix a few broken things.....not the "greatest show in hoops".

44 teams in each class is still too small, in my opinion. Still too watered down.

There are approximately 200 high schools in the state of Kentucky who have a varsity football team. There are six classes of football which means to win a state championship in Kentucky, a team must be the best of the about 35 teams in their class. Comparatively, in other football states like Ohio, Florida, Texas, Georgia, etc. a football state champion must win from a class of over 100 teams. As Mike Fields points out in his article in the Lexington Herald-Leader, having less classes in football is a must. He suggests four classes. I suggest three classes. Neither of our suggestions will be used.

If a coach is measured by the love and respect his current and former players have for him, Roy Walton is the greatest coach of all-time. He was a colorful figure and a wonderful man. My condolences to the Walton family and to all the players and students who had their lives touched by Coach Walton. He will be missed!

Wright State plays in a very competitive league against some good players and good teams. I wish this kid success and hope he is up to the task.

Rivals.com has Ge'lawn with offers from Ball State, Coastal Carolina, South Florida, and Western Kentucky. I heard that Baylor came into the picture late, but Rivals.com does not show them offering. He had orally commited to North Carolina/Charlotte, but changed his mind about that commitment.

Very interesting! I would have guessed that if Ge'lawn Guyn was going the prep school route, he would have strongly considered Hargrave Academy where former Scott County/Wake Forest player A.W. Hamilton is the assistant coach. Please tell me more about Ge'lawn's decision to go to prep school in New Hampshire.
