For Williamsburg I would have to say it would be Thomas Frazier at QB and Aaron Root at FB and LB. Frazier with his big arm made "Jacket Air" go, and Root's blocking, running and receving helped tons on offense, but he will be sorely missed as the defensive leader.

I have heard he gave a verbal to The Univesity of the Cumberlands this week and will sign L.O.I. next week. Think this will be a nice fit for this fine young man!

I've heard that Williamsburg's outstanding LB, Aaron Root, has given a verbal commitment to the University of the Cumberlands this week. If so what a great fit for the Patriots, a hometown boy who has a fantastic work ethic and flat out comes to play!

Heard through the grapevine that Aaron Root verbally comitted to the University of the Cumberlands this week.

I heard Thomas Frazier and Aaron Root from Williamsburg made an official visit to U Cumberlands last week and were pretty impressed. Heard That both received offers but can't verify at the moment. I dont' know about Frazier, but Root, I think, has visits set for KCU, Campbellsville, Thomas Moore, and Mt. St. Joe's. As we have followed Williamsburg the past several years it would tickle me to death if both these young men ended up as Patriots!

I agree both will do well at the next level (NFL is probably a huge stretch..lol, both will be nice college players though). I disagree about Frazier. I do think he can and will be a nice small college (D2 or NAIA) Quarterback. His speed would hurt him on D in college as he is a 4.9 at best. If I was recruiting him I would definitely look at him at QB because of arm strentgh, pocket presence and mobility, and he was really improving at reading defenses at the end of his senior season. There is no doubt in my mind Frazier could be a very nice QB on the college level. The knock on Root is he is 5'8". I have coached at both the high school and college levels and he is one of the most instinctive players I've ever watched. Wish this kid was 6'2", then you would be watching him on TV on Saturdays. Noble is right about his work ethic, and he does love to hit. Honestly though, don't be shocked if some of the schools looking at him don't look at him at FB after the surprising year he had as a senior. He showed excellent hands and surprising speed and balance. I know he broke at least 5 plays of over 70 yards this year and had an amazing 12 yard gain in the Cumberland Game where it looked like every body on the D took a shot but he just would not go down. Root has also been playing basketball to improve his speed and from what I hear has gotten much faster. Fantasy on my part, but would love to see both at the same college so I could watch them together for four more years. :jump:

As a player (back in the dark ages...lol) I was a multisport athelete and earned a college scholarship in Football. As a High School coach, we encouraged players to be active in other sports, especially wrestling and track for our football guys. As a college coach I leaned toward recruiting kids who played more than one sport and yet kept grades up (a good predicter of discipline at the college level btw.) Thus, all in all I'm in favor of multi sports at the HS level. Also, remember, these are teens and really the last time in life you play for fun is really at the HS level.

Would agree Frazier was great for the Jackets, but the move of Root to FB was a key for him. Root was invaluable as a lead bloker and in pass pro (reference Williamsburg's 05 season to see the difference). Thomas had more time to pass, and excelled running behind Root's blocking. Also Root proved to be a heck of a runner\receiver out of the backfield which limited defenses being able to key only on Frazier\Hamlin. Yes Frazier was the key on offense, but Root was the key defensively. When Root went down in game 8 his Jr. year, Williamsburg missed the Playoffs and couldn't stop water. Anyway, that being said, I'm glad we at the burg got a chance to see both these great young men for the past 4 years!

Frazier is about 6'1" (maybe a hair shorter) and about 230. Good arm, decent speed. Improved as a senior in reading defenses. I look for him to end up at an NAIA school at QB. Not sure who all he is hearing from other than Union and U Cumberlands.

Aaron Root at Williamsburg had another great year. POY at linebaker region 4 district 7, Corbin News Journal Defensive POY. As a jr. he set the school record for tackles with 164 ( 120 solo, 44 assists ), and this year he broke the record again with 174 total tackles (132 solo, 42 assists) 19 tfl, 2 int's, 3 recoveries with one being returned 48 yards for a TD. The kid just plays, pardon the expression, balls to the walls and has a great motor and a nasty attitude. He is 5'8", 190, and is being recruited by all the state NAIA schools, several Ohio schools, and some d2's in Tennessee. We W'burg fans have really enjoyed watching this fine young man the past 4 years and look forward to seeing this little bull on the next level.

Aaron Root played both Mike (Middle) and Sam (Strong Side) this year. He broke the school record he set as a Jr. (164 tackles) this year by 10 (174), an average of 16 per game, with 2 int's, 3 forced fumbles, 19 tackles for loss, and 3 recoveries with 1 being returned 48 yards for a TD. He is 5'8", 190 lbs. and runs a 4.7. Honestly believe if the kid was 6'1" he would end up at a D1, but with his height I look for him to end up at D2 or NAIA.

Thought Hammontree left Maryville HS (TN) for Georgia and the hope scholarship opportunities for his kids. Haven't talked to Tim in a few years but this would really surprise me.

We Williamsburg faithful were so impressed by the job done by Jerry Herron. 7 -3 regular season and a playoff appearance in his first year. It was great to see how the kids bought into his love for Williamsburg and his pride in wearing the orange.

Athough Aaron Root of Williamsburg got alot of local attention (District POY at Linebacker, Corbin News Journal Defensive Player of the year), he did not get any state wide attention other than being nominated for the KY - TN all star game. He is being recruited by Campbellsville, Cumberlands, Union, Mount St. Joseph's, Kentucky Christian, Thomas Moore, Murray State, Kenyon, among others. He will be a tremendous college player for who ever gets him, an outstanding work ethic, great knowledge of the game, and loves to hit. In all my years of football, I've not seen many kids who will out work this one.

Anyone have updates on the Adkins boy in the hospital at UT?

Have to agree, just seems all the all state teams overlook 1A unless it is a team deep into the playoffs or stste championship games. Maybe Ky should look at what some other states I have coached in have done and vote all state by classifications. Yes I know some will holler about it being watered down, but in other states we never heard that argument.

100% agreement here. Thought it was a shame that kids get left off the way they did. I know that as a Williamsburg fan we would have loved to have a bit of recognition on defense, where you had a kid like Aaron Root who was district 7 linebacker of the year, with 174 tackles, 2 interceptions, and a few fumble recoveries as well. Although Williamsburg did not win the district, Thomas Frazier led class a in passing until the playoffs, yet he only was honorable mention. It is a shame that kids like these two, because they are at a small school didn't get the recognition desrved, but I guess the good thing is we will get to see both playing at the college level next year on Saturdays.

The problem with, say the AP team, is that all communities don't have voters, therefore some get left out. I believe potential is kind of like faith....unseen as yet (Hebrews 11). Votes should, in my humble opinion, be based off what has been seen and actual performance, rather than this kid is going to be something on the college level.

It was reported that 51 students (approximately 1/3 of student body in the HS) signed a petetion to begin a football program. After that who knows, but I am all for starting a football program at any school who can do it!

I know they open with Lex Christian, and Jellico is not on the schedule, they also keep playing former district rivals Cumberland and Evarts, and are still looking for a week 4 game. Also kept a tough Oneida Tn. team on schedule and look for this to become quite a rivalry. Sorry not sure about the rest of the schedule but will try to get my hands on one. I agree, Lynn Camp will be the big dog next year with the return of Rosskopf.
