Comets will win this one. Fleming had a great game plan against Russell in the mud. The game was although decided on one play... the pick six. Comets are a very good football team and are hungry for a home playoff game.

This just might be the best thing that ever happened to Belfry. It will make the Red Army stronger.

Worst performance I have ever seen from a Russell team. They could do nothing right. Congratulations to Fleming County they played hard and kicked some butt.

Boyd has been the whipping boy for a long time. They can play good at times like 2005 when they beat a Russell team that one state. I think Boyd has some very good athletes in there school who have never put a uniform on. Kids also like playing for a winner. Restructuring from the top to bottom is needed. I,m not saying replace the coaching staff but it needs to be looked at. The biggest problem is getting the kids home after practice. It's a long drive for a lot of parents. The administration needs to find out from the kids what the problem is. They will tell you if you ask. There is no reason why Boyd cannot reach the level of say Johnson Central, Ashland, Raceland, or Russell if the administration can fix the problem. Greenup county did it. Firing the head coach every few years is not the answer.

I feel sorry for Boyd County. Something is wrong there and needs to be fixed.

I still don't get why Boyle is #1 . Belfry is the state champ and has shown no reason they are not going to repeat. Question: What has Boyle done other than move from 4-A to 3-A to justify them being #1 ???. OR are people just getting on the Boyle band wagon.

I was there. I remember Jones hitting Gross so hard going into the end zone that Gross went one way and the ball went the other. That game could have been different if not for that play. Then Gross breaks into the open field on a kickoff and I can't remember if the kicker tackled him or knocked the ball out of his hands. I'll also never forget when Howard was carrying the ball and one of our defensive backs came up to tackle him and Howard grabbed him and threw him to the ground like a rag doll. That was also a great game and closer that the score showed. I hope that Russell can get back to those glory years. I feel next year will be the year that Russell will be able to hang with Belfry again.

I agree that was one of the best games I have ever seen. I have yet to see that many fans at Russell.

Some of us old guys can't remember. No I just changed my mind. 21 28 it really maters not. I never get them predictions right anyway.

I could be wrong but when and if Russell would play Belfry They both would already be in the final four. Russell is not at the same level as Belfry. Now next year I would give Russell a chance against Belfry.

Not quite sure why Boyle is ranked #1 . I understand they dropped from 4-A to 3-A. They are winning but so are the state champs. I must be missing something here. Please enlighten me if I'm missing something. 1. Belfry, they are always good 2. Boyle, but not sure why. 3. Central, they seem to be right they come playoff time. 4. Caldwell 5. Russell, because I think they will be in the final 4

Great game to watch. I was impressed with the West defensive line. They are fast on both sides of the ball. It was a dog fight in the first half. The Russell Offensive line did a great job against the big and very fast West defense. Conley of course did very well.

I have never given West Carter much respect. By reading this thread I think I have changed my mind. I'm actually happy to see the West program improve so drastically. Sounds like they have a lot of speed. The speed did not hurt Russell in the Ashland game very much. It was that Ashland was very good on both sides of the ball and were without a doubt the better team IMO. I hope this is one of those great games we will talk about for years. West 21 Russell 28

I would be very surprised if this guy does not do some jail time. The two boys involved need to be closely evaluated by an independent review board to determine what to do with them.

The 2002 semi-final game with Russell against Breathitt County. Russell led the game by 15 points going into the fourth quarter. Breathitt came back to tie the game at the end of regulation. I think it was either two or three O/T later that Russell missed the PAT to end the game. Breathitt beat Corbin the following week to win the state championship by 60-0. I think this was the best Russell team in the past 25 years. Even better than the 2004 and 2005 teams.
