When I played the players elected the Captains. Each player turned in a name with who they wanted as Captain. The coach took the names into his office and counted them up. He announced the Captains the next practice. 30 years passed and in talking with the head coach I found out that he selected who he wanted regardless of what we wanted. We never knew the difference.

In most part the list is just fine. I do find it interesting that Ashland even made the list at all. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they were not on the list at the end of the 2007 regular season because they were not a very good football team who only won 2 games. So what have they done to even get on the list? Please help me with this one.

I look for Russell to win but I think it will be a good close game. Boyd has been known as a team that can beat Russell. A fumble here an interception there and who knows. Russell 35 Boyd 21

This game was about what I expected. Greenup is just not ready to play Russell this early in the year. I would love to see Russell and Greenup play in week 10. I think it would be somewhat closer. Congratulations to the Red Devils.

I can't find in this thread where anyone has stated that Russell has superior talent. Now I'm old so help me out. Now I did find where if Russell wins it will be the last time for the next four or five years. Russell has no better talent than anyone. I feel they are better coached than a lot of teams therefor they perform better as a team.

I think Russell will control the ball with long sustained drives. I'm a Greenup supporter and wish them the best but I just don't see it happening on week one. But who knows what might happen Elvis might show up at the game.

Oh yea. I forgot those guys who open their doors at stop signs and spit out a big mouthful onto the pavement. Then I run over it with my jeep and have to wash it off. I'm sorry but school grounds are no play to have tobacco products. It also drives me crazy when I see someone in a car with four kids and they are smoking and the children have to breath it. I guess it's their kids they can subject them to it if they want. I'm an ex smoker.

So do you think the outcome of the Belfry Central game would have changed had the played in.. Lets say Morehead.

I think by the time Russell plays Mason County and Breathitt County the ranking may change. Who knows although! Mason County may just smack Russell in the mouth. I for one don't see that happening. Once again great job by the BGP guys. They usually call it right but I just don't see Russell at #7 at the end of the season.

It's about time that Russell got with the program. I'm tired of watching those guys spit on the concrete and then every one has to walk on it. It's filthy. I do although wish that they would have an area where all the tobacco lovers could get a fix. Maybe rope off an area off on I-64. Just kidding.

Russell seems to always have one or two that step up and become team leaders. This year is no exception.

Maybe someone should ask Mr. Cobble how tall he is and this will end all this.

Mister Cobble will win the award. The others are good players but he dominates on defense.

My point is that Russell has had some very good football players who I feel have been slighted by the D-1 eye in the stands. Russell has had many very good football player go on to the next level.

Russell is very fortunate to have had good football teams for a good long time. Russell has not had a true D-1 athlete since McPeak. Why have they played so well without the athletes who can make it at the D-1 level? I think it is the coaching staff that has the ability to take very young kids and teach them the game. Don't get me wrong I think that several could have played at the D-1 level had they been given the chance. Gross, Clark, several linebackers and one lineman Etc. Don't be surpised if you see some kids that we think are going to start and get beat out by a lower class player. Runningbacks are a dime a dozen at Russell. The ones that stay focused and put the team number one instead of themselves will play. The ones that have off the field issues won't. Ivan will not hesitate playing young kids. We see it on Friday nights. Sophmores playing all over the field. I hated to see Adam Bates break his leg. I was looking for him to have a great season. I understand that he is a very tough young man and maybe we will see him in the playoffs.

Russell can win a Championship if things work out for them. Russell will need several breaks along the way just as they got in the 2005 year. I see Russell winning games but not dominating their apponent in the post season. Let's face it 3-A has some very good football teams out there and each one of those good teams wants to win also.

I agree with what you have stated but I do remember a game where our defense was not playing well and Tyler went in and things changed. AJ needs to step up and be that leader and he may have just done that already. He is an exceptional QB who does throw the ball very well. I do look for Ivan to pass the ball more this year. I base that on AJ's ability as a passer only. I would love to see them get Dillon the ball over the middle at least three to four times a game. About five yards deep after a good run fake. That would give a defense absolute fits.

Just about the time you start to think you can't be beat in the post season.... You get beat.
