2008 Russell

What does Russell need to do to improve in 2008? What do they need to keep doing to be successful? Remember, please be constructive.

On Offense, they need to find replacements for 2 year starters Hicks and Foster, QB Jones and a new center as well. I know that A.J. Cordle is the heir apparent at QB, but the line will have some competition I'm sure.

 

On defense, replacements at end for "bash-brothers" Jones and Foster, someone on the line to replace Cornwell, Bender and Brown. Linebackers and DB's will all be back with a much needed 1 yr under their belts.

 

Special Teams - Dolly and Bailey are both back, but will need someone to replace 2 yr starter Foster as Long Snapper on Punts and FG/PAT's

 

So not as many changes as last year's team had to go through, so look for Russell to come out looking a whole lot sharper to start the season, especially on defense.

Russell returns alot. Have to replace the heart and soul of Jones and Foster. Should be another strong year.

 

On offense the entire backfield returns. There should be alot of competition along the line of scrimmage to replace three starters.

 

Defensively the line is also the main concern. LBs and defensive backs all return. I think they will be a bit smaller but quicker along the defensive front.

Air it out??? I really don't think so. I see russell running the ball with the three running backs coming back. I would agree that Cordle is an excellent passer and I think we will see him show his talents.

I don't think they will air it out but I would like to see them use more of the screens and swing passes that they have in the past.

IMO Russell should be back the same as always and that is a very good football team, they were pretty good last season - just young.

As far as their district goes I look for the Red Devils vs. Mason Co. to decide that.

You can bet the farm that ole' coach Ivan will have these guys ready. He has'nt failed to yet. A true coaching genius.

Some teams rebuild, Russell just reloads. Ivan McGlone needs a statue at RHS.

The Devils have a quality replacement at center in Nick Blevins. He has been at the position since his fresman year. He has been learning from some of the best , such as Ethan Gullett. He also is very good on the other side of the ball at nose. He's at 230 and a little over 6'0. I just hope they take care of the secondary on D.

Im sure the devils will put together another nice season in 08', they always do. Cant say enough about the job coach McGlone and the other coaches at RHS do year in and year out. However, IMO they dont have the "go-to" guy at running back like they have had in the past with Gross and Clark. I think they have some good running backs but no one really stands out more then the others. Also replacing Jones at QB wont be an easy task. Im sure Cordle can get the job done but Jones was a terrific leader for the devils and that can be tough to replace. IMO Mason county will get them in the district championship but the devils still put together a solid season.

Russell has what it takes to win. In the next 2 years, I expect Russell will have another state title under their belts.

This is the year. They are loaded on the line, both sides. A.J Cordle is the real deal. As anyone who follows the devils knows you have to wait your turn to start. These kids coming into there sr. season have paid there dues.
