What is the word on Adam Bate's leg? I know it is broke, I have suffered the same injury and was out for out for a year. I hope he can fully recover, but I doubt he will be able to play this season at all.

I wasn't able to attend the passing league game tonight at East Carter, but I heard all the squads did well. How is Bates' replacement doing as far as melding with the rest of the 1st team backs.

I think this year will be the last chance the Devils have at making a run for the title for a couple of years. Not very much depth in the upcoming Junior and Sophomore classes. While they have very talented players. There just isn't very many of them. (I mean numbers wise.) Didn't the freshman team only win 1 game? Plus after this year they will have to replace the entire backfield. The quarterback. Majority of the line, as I see mostly seniors winning the open positions, and the entire secondary. So after this yr, they will probably only return 2 linebackers and maybe 1 or 2 lineman. Its gonna be tough to come back from that, I hope they do though. Thats 2 years ahead anyways, I just don't like everyone saying they have no shot this year. I think they will be much better as a TEAM than the 07 team. Since most of these kids played critical roles on that team.

Sorry you feel that way, but I will have to disagree. The up coming Jr.'s have a lot of true athletes, such as Jones, Rice, & Smith just to name a few and much depth. As Sophmores these kids got a lot of Varsity play time. I don't know much about the upcoming Sophmores. But there is a huge jump in growth and development of the kids from a Sophmore to a Senior year. The kids seem to have to dedication to what it takes to be a champ, and certainly our wonderful coaches do also. That is not to say that we won't miss the Senior running backs in 2009! I also foresee more Juniors in starting spots than what you believe.

Russell is very fortunate to have had good football teams for a good long time. Russell has not had a true D-1 athlete since McPeak. Why have they played so well without the athletes who can make it at the D-1 level? I think it is the coaching staff that has the ability to take very young kids and teach them the game. Don't get me wrong I think that several could have played at the D-1 level had they been given the chance. Gross, Clark, several linebackers and one lineman Etc. Don't be surpised if you see some kids that we think are going to start and get beat out by a lower class player. Runningbacks are a dime a dozen at Russell. The ones that stay focused and put the team number one instead of themselves will play. The ones that have off the field issues won't. Ivan will not hesitate playing young kids. We see it on Friday nights. Sophmores playing all over the field. I hated to see Adam Bates break his leg. I was looking for him to have a great season. I understand that he is a very tough young man and maybe we will see him in the playoffs.

My point is that Russell has had some very good football players who I feel have been slighted by the D-1 eye in the stands. Russell has had many very good football player go on to the next level.

I feel like coach Ivan is doing a execellent job with getting everything out of every position he has on the field. That is why we have had sucess and will continue to do so. As a former player I know that I would run through a brick wall for him.

Russell has never had a problem with scoring. Three yards and a cloud of dust is all Ivan ever wanted and the wing T is perfect for that kind of thinking. I believe the offense will not skip a beat.

Welcome to BGP J.T. and I agree, imo too many people get too wrapped up in D1 vs the other levels when it come to a kid getting a scholly. A college education is a college education, getting a degree is what it's all about. Raceland as well as your Red Devils I believe have had several go to the lower level schools to continue their football carrers and attend college. There is certainly no disgrace in that as some would make it out to be.

Good luck to all kids at all schools in advancing to the next level if they can and want to, whether it be D1,2,3 or NAIA, doesn't matter....that degree is what matters. :thumb:

I'm interested in whom you think will be the team leader or leaders this year. We have some new folks coming into positions, particularly at quarterback. Do you think this group of seniors will have the leadership to help bring it all together. I think that leadership is important to set the tone of the team. I know these are hard-working kids, but what kind of team mentally are you looking at? I know last year, Tyler Jones would go from player to player to get folks into the game and had no qualms encouraging players or getting in their faces. Who do we have to replace him?

I think there are a couple of seniors, that have to step up and or juniors, that need to fill the shoes of those leaders.

This is the year. They are loaded on the line, both sides. A.J Cordle is the real deal. As anyone who follows the devils knows you have to wait your turn to start. These kids coming into there sr. season have paid there dues.
