How Would You Rank the Top 5 in Class 3A?

Featured Replies

I'm putting Boyle, Belfry, Central, Caldwell, Lexington Catholic, Elizabethtown, and Russell in the pile you have to rank your top 5. Who goes where? Should someone not listed be considered? Let's hear it.

Boyle holds on to the top spot for now. Belfry, IMO, has a shot to move to #1 with a win this week. Central stays ahead of unbeaten E-Town based on the strength of their wins over St.X and CAL. I'm taking Caldwell over LexCath. Caldwell's only loss is a 2pt loss to a good 5A Christian Co. team and LexCath just got handed their third loss in lopsided fashion. As of right now, Russell doesn't really belong in this conversation. They have much work to do.

Agreed on all of the above.

1. Boyle County- Known commodity. They have dominated all but one game and beat some good quality teams. The ONLY knock on Boyle is their win vs. Central Hardin has lost some of it's luster, but still absolutely no denying the Rebs are a Top 10-15 team in the State.

2. Belfry- Defending champs and starting to play that way. Three straight wins against ranked teams in impressive fashion with a chance for one of the most impressive wins for a Non-6A team this week. Belfry's secondary remains a question mark though, and despite large winning margin they have been sloppy at times on offense.

3. Central- The best win of anyone in the class against St. Xavier, they also have the best loss of any 3A team against Manual, a bonafide Top 5 6A team. The knock on Central is a mystery loss to Knox Central and a C'loser than should've been" win against Waggener.

4. Caldwell County- A team who has checked all the boxes of a Title Contender... just not with a lot of "wow" factor. They have a quality loss to a good, but not great, Christian County team. They have a quality win over a flawed Tilghman team. They also have several quality wins over decent, but unranked, teams. A team that can be very dangerous if they keep improving.

5. Etown- Undefeated but their schedule hasn't been very challenging. Definitely a vastly improved team, but along with Adair County who is also undefeated against am embarrassingly soft schedule, we will not really get a great grip on how good either team until they play each other.

6. LexCath- No questioning their schedule. Probably the most difficult slate of any 3A team with losses to three of the State's Top 25 teams. CovCath in most years would be a signature win but at 1-5 it loses some luster. The biggest issue with LexCath is can they hang with the physicality of the rest of 3A? Domination at the LOS by Johnson Central, Ryle, and Cooper suggests maybe not.

7. Tilghman- The story of Tilghman over the past 5 years: Pre-Season Hype and bold proclamations of winning a 3A Title/ Impressive early season start fuels hype more. Lose a couple games soon after due to lack of discipline and getting abused at the LOS. Gain confidence at end of the year against inferior District teams. Proclaim the ship is righted. Bow out in the playoffs..... 2015 is right on track.

8. Russell- Classic sleeper team. Nothing jumps out to warrant a higher rank, but their loss is a bit misleading. Ashland is the #3 team in 4A and Russell played that game without arguably their best player in their starting QB. Unlike some teams above them they have the physicality and Defense... just not sure if they have the playmakers.

Paducah should play Caldwell again just like Murray the last couple of years, winner will be in BG for the finals

The implication being Paducah Tilghman or Caldwell County will beat Boyle, Central, or Lexington Catholic in the state semifinals?

Not quite sure why Boyle is ranked #1 . I understand they dropped from 4-A to 3-A. They are winning but so are the state champs. I must be missing something here. Please enlighten me if I'm missing something.

1. Belfry, they are always good

2. Boyle, but not sure why.

3. Central, they seem to be right they come playoff time.

4. Caldwell

5. Russell, because I think they will be in the final 4
