Great job, Devils.

 

Conley unofficially with 184yds and 2 TDs on the ground. McKee returns after a couple of weeks off and throws 2 TD passes(one each to Drey Boehm and Ryan Stump). He's still not 100%, so he wasn't asked to do much with his feet.

 

Russell's defense was really the story in this one. West Carter was averaging almost 43pts and 360yds per game. Russell held the Comets to 30pts below their average and less than 150 yards of offense. Outside of a 38yd TD run in the 2nd quarter, Braden Brown was largely ineffective. Russell had defenders spying on him all night.

Great game to watch. I was impressed with the West defensive line. They are fast on both sides of the ball. It was a dog fight in the first half. The Russell Offensive line did a great job against the big and very fast West defense. Conley of course did very well.

Good win by Russell who I think will go undefeated in district play and remain unchallenged.

 

Sucks for West though. They have never beaten Russell and after this year its going to be even longer. Russell probably just wore down West throughout the game. West will not lose another district game this year.

West has a stud athlete at QB but the defensive scheme was horrible. Play man across with no help? That will only work if you are hands down better than people and it showed you were not Friday.

 

If West wants to challenge for top spot in the district and have any hope of posing a threat in the region they have to play a legitimate scheme to me. They can keep dong what hey are doing and beat up on the East Carter's of the world but they could have made this one closer.

 

I think West ends up the 2 seed and gets to end their season at Pond Creek in the 2nd week of the playoffs. Russell ends up the 1 seed and gets Lawrence at home. Not sure how I feel about that as I am not impressed with Russell. The play calling leaves a lot to be desired to me. Hopefully the QB being healthy will help that, but I think Maynard gives to much chain to the OC. Some of the calls leave me scratching my head and have so in multiple games.

I don't think we'll know how good Russell's offense is until the Raceland game. Right now, it's still a work in progress. With McKee back, they've got a few weeks to do some fine tuning against teams they should manhandle.

 

This team has a number of pass catchers, but no go-to receiver. It would be nice to see one of those kids step up. Drey Boehm looks like someone to keep an eye on going forward.

I've been fairly impressed with Russell outside of the Ashland game when they couldn't get out of their own way.

 

Thet play a little conservative on offense but their defense has been really good.

Good game. 7-7 at the half. Russell played great assignment defense and brought a lot of pressure in the second half. West had 2 turnovers one each half and gave up 3 touchdowns on 4th down. Not going to pull off an upset turning the ball over and giving up conversions on 4th down, especially when those 4th down conversions are touchdowns when Russell wasn't even in goal.
