9th Reg - District 1 and 2 Thoughts
Ryle beat Boone again tonight, 53-48. Ryle faces Conner for the district championship.

CovCath 56 Cov Holy Cross 49
I'm sure it was an outstanding effort by every player on both teams. Congrats to CovCath for winning a road game vs. a very good HC squad. I sure like CovCath's chances to take the 9th region crown.

Thanks for these great updates. Feeling a photo finish?????????

Scott 67 Campbell Co. 65 (OT)
Congrats to Scott on what must have been an exciting win. Sounds like Campbell had every chance to win in regulation. March madness on the last day of February!

CovCath vs Cov Holy Cross update
I appreciate the updates. My speaker is not working on the computer. Technical probs here in Union.

CCH @ Holy Cross 1st Round of the 35th
cshs81 needs someone from BGP to stop by the Community and bring him breakfast, lunch, a toothbrush/toothpaste and take his sleeping bag home. Have a great day and remember to "stay in line" during the game. At least you had some practice at it overnight.

CCH @ Holy Cross 1st Round of the 35th
If HC pulls the upset, it will be by the very narrowest of margins. CovCath is capable of winning by double digits if they play "A" ball and defend the perimeter well. I really like the way both teams play the game. Good luck to both teams.

9th Region Tourney Picks
I hope you are wrong, of course. Boone certainly has had two impressive wins down the stretch. We have beaten them soundly twice and know that Boone is really going to come after us hard. I look for a very close game that could go either way.

I thought you would like that tribute. You deserve it as one of the most faithful fans on BGP!

9th Region Tourney Picks
All right, BGP gang, we've seen all the teams play and this will be the year when the worst ever records will assemble in one gym for the 9th region tourney at Ryle. Let's pick our Final 8 and indicate their projected record after the district championships are played out. Indicate district and your choice as first or second place representative. 33: 1) Ryle 13-15 2)St. Hank 14-14 Ryle and St. Henry advance with very close wins vs. Boone Co. and Conner. The Raiders win a nail-biter to avenge a close regular season loss to the Cru. I see very close games other than the Conner over Heritage blow out. Boone and Conner have excellent opportunities to join in the fun. 34: 1) Dixie Hts 12-16 2) Ludlow 13-13 The Big Ziggers sneak in by virtue of defeating the depleted Juggs in round one. The Red Colonels enjoy a cakewalk to the championship and they enter region play with 5 straight wins and lots of confidence. These will be lopsided games. 35: 1) CovCath 21-6 2)Holmes 19-8 Holy Colonels defeat Holy Cross in an incredible game at the Community and HC bows out as one of the top teams in the state not making the region. Holmes rallies to beat Beechwood in spite of Michael Romes' big game. CovCath also handles the Dawgs in the championship game by at least 8 points. 36: 1) Highlands 22-7 2)NewCath 15-13 Highlands regroups after a tough finish and they dominate the 36th tourney. NewCath's championship athletes gain revenge for the regular season loss and pull out a very close win by a few points against the Cats. Birds win by 10+ in the championship. Good luck to all teams!

Dixie 67 SK 57
Congrats to Dixie. They will be on a 5-game winning streak as they enter the regional tourney. They will not go down easy with the group of seniors leading the team. Now that they are back to full strength, with the experience gained from playing the best in the state, they could be a real darkhorse in the 9th.

NKY Coach of the Year
Coach Goetz gets my vote whether they beat CovCath or not. First-year coach inheriting a team with no proven go-to guy and they have had a fantastic season, surprising many people except for the Large Stud.

Boone 60 Highlands 57
Congrats to Boone on two big upset wins in the past two weeks.

One of the best things I've seen!
WOW! Awesome sports story. Hard to think of one better than this one.

35th District Tourney and 9th Region Tourney
Sounds like it's time for a Special offering at the Community. It will be a shame for the game on Tuesday with so many people locked out. I can envision a long line prior to the doors opening. Even though I would like to see the game, I defer my possible seat to a true HC/CovCath fan who otherwise might not get to see a great basketball game. CPC will at least be good for the replay. Thanks, GT!

Region 9 Contenders
Where's the love for HC? I thought you were a believer now? Must all good things come to an end so quickly? :walk:

9th Region, One Tournament
This would save money on district championship hardware and all-district teams. Unfortunately, I do not see it happening. This is one of those cruel years where one of the top teams in the region will not make it with the Holy Colonels and Holy Cross matched in round one. Unfair but good preparation for life.

Campbell Co 57 Ryle 47
Have to agree. They do well at the 8th (Gray Middle) and 9th grade levels each year and the 3 post-Doellman years have been less than impressive. Last night's second half was abysmal. Ryle leads by 5 at the half and then plays terrible for 16 minutes against a team that is not exactly a dynamo.
-
Holy Cross 58 Scott 42
Congrats to HC. They have come together very nicely and it's a shame that HC and CovCath both do not make it to the 9th region tourney. This is definitely the best HC squad in a while.

Potential New Coaches??
Alan Mullins, Ryle's frosh coach, will be a head coach some day IMO if he has that desire. I like his style, enthusiasm, work ethic, attitude, etc. He led Ryle to our first ever frosh 9th region championship this year.
-
A Class Act
Very much agreed. He did a great job of coaching. As he should have done, he let lots of kids p/u playing time during the year and the win-loss record was deceiving because of that IMO. At crunch time in the tourney, he stuck with a smaller number of players and got the job done nicely. Great job, Alan!!

Dixie-Scott-Simon Kenton- Holy Cross .. where would you rank these teams?
Holy Cross - 1 Scott/SK - 2 - tied Dixie - 4 Of these four, I think HC has a definite edge based on how they have achieved on the court and vs. these other teams this year. Only Scott has a chance to upset the apple cart with a win tomorrow night. The Eagles do have home court advantage and Senior Night incentive which will make for a very close game. However, I was more impressed with HC than Scott, even though Scott actually played very well the night I saw them vs. Ryle. Scott and SK split so I rate them tied even though I give a slight edge to SK due to Hester. Scott has played a little tougher schedule than SK IMO. Dixie's schedule is one of the most brutal in the whole state.

CovCath 77 Ryle 48
CCH had a great game and Ryle played poorly, except for quarter two. Remember, it was only an 8-point game at intermission because Ryle played very well in the second quarter. CCH will win state if they play like they did in quarters 1 and 3. They hit the threes, made the extra pass, moved without the ball, crashed the boards, worked for layups when they were there, made great reads on the press to create TO's and played superb team ball. I bet they shot over 60% in quarters 1 and 3. The fourth quarter was a sub game so this was really only a 3-quarter game. A second meeting would not be a 29-point game. It was one of those nights and CovCath was brilliant. They were superb!

2006 NKY Freshman Invitational Tournament played at CovCath
Congrats to the Ryle frosh. You earned a victory with a great team effort. Both teams played hard and it was a very good game to watch. Stover creates and uses his body very well and I thought he was CovCath's best player. This is Ryle's first frosh regional championship. I can't spell our #32's name, the very fine young man from Japan, but his 7 points in a row in the second half were huge. CovCath does a fantastic job of running the frosh regional tourney. THANKS from all of the 9th region fans.

CovCath 77 Ryle 48
CovCath was terrific in the first and third quarters. Ryle only played well in one quarter and was extremely careless with the ball and I give CovCath credit for dominating the game. CovCath will win the 9th region if they play like they did tonight. Congrats to the Blue Colonels. You played like champions tonight.
