A Class Act

As a helper with the NKY Freshman Regional Tournament for 3 straight years, the one coach that truly stands out in my mind as a great guy to talk to and is very polite, was the Ryle coach. Very nice man. Always "Yes Sir, No Sir", and please and thank you always. Ryle should be proud to have a man like this in their program. Looks like a intimidating man, but a great guy.

If you mean the Ryle frosh coach, that would be Alan Mullins.

The same Alan Mullins who was the point guard for the 1981 State Champion Simon Kenton Pioneers! :ylsuper: Agreed, he is a nice guy, always has been!

Great guy, great coach.

Why did Mullins leave the Boone Co program? He was a very good coach while there.

Another great freshman coach is Jim Goetz of St. Henry. Runs a great program and does it very classy. St. Henry played very well this year under him, especially the last month or so while the team was missing its best player for the end of the season because of grades.

Very much agreed. He did a great job of coaching. As he should have done, he let lots of kids p/u playing time during the year and the win-loss record was deceiving because of that IMO. At crunch time in the tourney, he stuck with a smaller number of players and got the job done nicely. Great job, Alan!!

Mr. Mullins wins Ryle's first Freshman Tournament. St Henry's coach does a great job of getting the most of his players. The thing I have noticed over the years, is that St. Henry's players play the game very smartly and make very heady decisions.

Excellent point by my friend from Union. FROSH b-ball should be primarily about development and winning should be secondary. Too often you see teams that do not play their players and those players leave the program. If I'm the varsity coach, I don't want my FROSH coach determining which players come back and which ones do not.

As I said in the frosh championship thread, Alan Mullins' coaching was a big factor in the championship game.

He has a lot to look forward to in the future as well. I have noticed that there are a few Raider teams playing in the AAU Divisions out at SOAS and they all seem to be doing very well.

Great Player and Coach
