  1. I have seen more good parents than bad parents by far. However, the bad parents do exactly the things you mentioned and make fools of themselves and embarass their kids in the process. The situation at Ryle is pathetic and the superintendent only compounded the situation with the timing of his decision. Some parents just lose all self-control when it comes to "taking up for Johnny".
  2. Drew was #12 and he had some good games as a back up to Scottie Gray. Did very well vs. Boone, SK, Campbell, and Dunbar and would have been a feature back at a lot of schools.
  3. I do not think it was planned to come to a head right before the district championship game as the grievances were filed a while back (not sure exactly when). I heard that more than one grievance was filed but I am not sure of that. At any rate, this situation has been brewing for a while and has taken its toll on Ryle's team this winter IMO. It just took time to make it to the Superintendent and the timing was atrocious for the Raiders. I do agree that some parents need to grow up.
  4. Any unbiased fan who has been watching these teams lately has to pick CovCath as the logical choice. They can score inside and outside, play very good D, are very unselfish with the ball, have many threats on the 3-ball, a great point guard and are playing much better now than when Highlands beat them earlier in the season. It will be an upset for anyone to beat CovCath. Holmes definitely has an easier path to the finals if they pull together as a team but they have not played well consistently since the Rice fiasco.
  5. You make some good points. It is sad when parents overstep their bounds and end up hurting their child and the other kids. I see nothing positive that has come out of this situation.
  6. I would rate CovCath #1, HHS #2 and Holmes #3. So, this is a case where the district winner has a tougher road than the loser. Holmes should be able to make it to the finals IMO and face a Blue Colonel team that has to survive the host team and then a battle royale with the Birds just to make it to the finals.
  7. Thanks for the info. Adam played an awesome second half. I really did not notice much out of Huffman and I only remember two baskets he made all night. Maley did an outstanding job on defending Travis. Also, Lance did a fine job of defending Rob Lykes and keeping him out of double figures. It was a good defensive battle of teams that would probably split 10 games. It was too bad Erickson got hurt. He has been regularly hitting some big 3's for us. Coach Niemi's one-game suspension did not help our cause.
  8. I have also noticed this pattern. This is a great tribute to Coach L. I had predicted that CovCath would come out in the second half and take care of business. WOW! Did they. Beating Holmes by 20 in the tourney is a great accomplishment. CovCath is definitely the best team in the 9th region right now.
  9. My understanding was that he was suspended one game by the Superintendent as a result of some type of grievance filed by parents of a few players. It really hurt the Raiders last night as I noticed the sub patterns that Nate had working so well vs. NewCath and Boone were off a bit. Alan Mullins did a great job filling in, though. I think it is only a one-game suspension but not sure of details. It's truly an unfortunate circumstance. Nate is a man of character even if not the most successful coach in terms of W-L.
  10. Both teams played hard all night on D and Conner avenges a regular season loss. Too many missed free throws and easy shots spelled doom for the Raiders. The left handed guard for Conner, #20, had an unconscious second half and was the difference in the game. Both teams would have to play much better than they did tonight to contend in the regionals. Congrats to Conner on doing the unexpected after only winning 6 games in the regular season.
  11. Congrats to CovCath. No reason to believe they are not the best team in Region 9 right now.
  12. Congrats to Raider TB Drew Morgan, who signed with Morehead State today in a ceremony at Ryle. Keep that smile alive and enjoy life as an Eagle!
  13. I'm simply saying interesting because I think it would be a very closely contested first round game with the additional pressure of do-or-die and Dixie in the spoiler role with absolutely nothing to lose.
  14. Congrats to Dixie. They will enter the 9th region tourney as a definite darkhorse candidate. Sure will be interesting if they happen to draw the CovCath - Holmes loser.
  15. Minor surgery and rehab after football. Initially, I do not think he planned to play hoops at all this winter. He sure made a difference last night and played his best game of the season by far.
  16. I'd say it is about matchups. We beat Boone in the early season 55-44 at Boone, mid to late season 70-48 at Ryle and 53-48 at St. Hank. Ryle matches up very well with Boone.
  17. I've had my share of seeing our 9th region crews in action. Tonight's crew was absolutely unbelievable. I'll let you guess whether good or bad.
  18. CovCath had to be so focused and pumped to beat HC on the Indian's home court that they may come out a bit flat vs. Holmes. I know that sounds strange but sports runs that way when mentally you know you are in the region and this is not a must win game. However, I think CovCath regroups at the half and takes care of business to win the district. The Blue Colonels definitely want that #1 seed and they are a fine club. Hill, Jefferson and Henderson are 3 of the most exciting area players to watch and I see them wanting this game badly. The Dawgs did not have to expend as much emotional energy to get to this game even though Beechwood gave them a great battle. Should be a great game. Good luck to both teams.
  19. Thanks for your kind words. I thought we only played well one quarter vs. CovCath with a fine second quarter to close to within 8 at the half. The third quarter was a nightmare and I give credit to CovCath. They were brilliant that night in quarters one and three.
  20. They always clear the gym for the semis on Friday night, I do know that for sure. I think they do not clear the gym on first round games but I could be wrong on that. I'm not sure of the times but we'll find out soon. We're looking forward to hosting the regional this year at Ryle.
  21. Ryle went to an 8-man rotation just the last two games and they are really playing well together and every kid really gets after it on defense. Scott Gray was definitely the unsung hero tonight. He is just starting to get his basketball legs after sitting out 3 months from early November through January. He hit two key threes and a pair or throws and hustled his rear off guarding Bray. Scott probably had 12 points and was fab on D. The Raiders had a nice win vs. NewCath to end the regular season so I hope we can take a little mo into the regional tourney at our place.
  22. Can't change my region predictions now. My only miss was Conner over St. Hank so now I have to put the Cougars in place of the Cru as #2 in our district. 33 - 1) Ryle 2) Conner 34 - 1) Dixie 2) Ludlow 35 - 1) CovCath 2) Holmes 36 - 1) Highlands 2) NewCath
  23. Ryle actually was #2 because we beat Boone both times and Conner in our only matchup during the season. Conner was #4 but no surprise in seeing them advance to the finals. Coach Hicks always seems to have his teams playing well at tourney time. Any thoughts on the St. Henry/Conner game tonight? It sounds like it was a good one.
  24. Second straight very solid performance by Ryle. Nate is down to an 8-man rotation and they are playing very well. Boone has certainly improved down the stretch and it is hard to beat a team three times in one season. Congrats to the Raiders. Ryle scored the first 9 points but Boone clawed back to take their only lead of the night very briefly in the third quarter.
  25. Excellent line. Congrats to Conner!
