  1. Raiders were very sharp again tonight and starting to play to their capabilities. They hit the ball hard up and down the lineup the entire game. Congrats to Josh Dusing on a 2-run Johnson to left center. Brent Humphrey had 3 hits and Micah Foreman 2 to lead the offensive onslaught. Junior JC Collins has been very sharp every time he takes the mound. I'm sure Dixie was not pleased with their D tonight as they helped us out with some costly errors. The game went incredibly fast until the lengthy Raider 7th inning, which put the game away. Dixie's P.A. announcer is hilarious and made for an enjoyable game at Turkeyfoot.
  2. It would be very possible for all three teams to end up 2-1 and the seeds be determined by a tiebreaker. Beechwood and Holy Cross control their own destinies at this point. I don't mean to disparage Holmes but they are really young and don't have the pitching and defense needed to beat the other three in a district game. Beechwood has to get two tough wins and HC only one more tough win to claim the district. It will be interesting. All three teams are pretty even IMO.
  3. Congrats to HC. #1 seed is really important in the 35th district.
  4. Good win for the Raiders vs. Boone's ace, Andy Dietz. Dietz is a very good pitcher with a wicked hook and Ryle's Ryan Hughes also pitched very well with a nasty #2 ball of his own. Dietz and Farris IMO are an excellent battery but they did not get good support today with the leather. Ryle rolled two nice double plays and was sharp in the field except for a couple of miscues. Boone probably had at least 6 errors, just guessing. Ryle led 8-0 before Boone scored 4 in the bottom of the 6th. Brent Humphrey, Jerrod Babik and Garrett Wagner each had two knocks for the Raiders, who move to 2-0 in district play.
  5. Nice ball game to watch as both teams hustled and played well. Ryle's Mark Guttridge was the only player with multiple hits, including a triple to left center. Vince Murray had two RBI's. Giovanni Devita pitched well and worked out of 3-4 jams to get the win. Brian Weis pitched the 7th to notch a save and looked sharp.
  6. Great job, Danny. Always one of my favorite players and an outstanding young man. Centre seems like a perfect fit for Danny.
  7. Very good win for Dixie and congrats to Matt Nichols. A no-no is a great accomplishment.
  8. Excellent win for Holmes. Congrats to the Dawgs!
  9. Old guy, you are the voice of reason and honesty. I enjoy your posts. THANKS
  10. I understand totally what both of you are saying. It was certainly an unusual situation in the Saturday/Sunday game. And, whenever you look at an entire game, there are always many factors in why one team wins or loses on a given day, or days in this case.
  11. Good points. OK, so that we can be in agreement, prom lost us the game by not having 7 innings of our varsity vs. SK's varsity. I like our chances in that matchup.
  12. It was an unusual game in that 7 of our varsity starters were not able to play in the first 6 innings on Saturday due to prior commitments to attend the Prom. The game did not start until 7 p.m. and they had to be places at that time. So, it was quite miraculous that our JV and subs played SK to a 4-4 6-inning tie and the game was suspended due to darkness. When we played SK previously, they scored first and then we hammered them 12-6. It was unfortunate that our varsity did not get to play the entire 7 innings and then the one run would not have loomed so prominent in the outcome. It was do-or-die, sudden death on Sunday starting in the 7th inning and we died due to the mental error.
  13. Very true. We all use names of the star players in a game and very few ever name the people whose play cost their team in a given game. And, we should not use the names IMO. But, what's the big deal about telling the truth about what happened without mentioning names?
  14. cshs, just a difference of opinion for one of the few times. I see what you are saying and apologize if that phrase offended you. Actually, the college situation was a physical error and I have seen big leaguers drop routine fly balls. A mental error in sports makes a fool of youself and hurts your teammates that are working their butts off. There are no excuses for mental errors......period.
  15. Here are some corrections, comments and insights for this thread. The final score of the game was 5-4 as it was a suspension and not a replay of a game suspended due to darkness. There is a huge difference between a physical error, which I have never criticized on BGP and will never criticize, and a mental error. This play was a complete failure to be mentally into the game. 7 other players out there were at Prom and did not have a normal night of sleep, so prom is not an excuse. Here's exactly what happened including field talk: Runner on second with two outs. Coach Roesel calls for an intentional walk to set up a force. The strategy works perfectly as the batter hits the ball right at the shortstop, who underhands the ball to the second baseman who goes to cover the bag. Second baseman steps on the bag and then steps off of it well before he catches the ball. Second baseman says to shortstop while the ball is in the air: Why are you throwing the ball to me? Shortstop says, tag the bag, tag the bag. The player just stands there. Then, I guess realizing the mental error, he drops his head and holds the ball while the winning run streaks across the plate. This is what happened. The player is not mentioned by name. Nothing would have been said if this was a physical error. Coach Roesel had every right to blister the player for lack of focus that cost his team a game but I doubt that he said anything except to the entire team. He is a very fair coach and an even better man. He is finding out who can do what at what positions to prepare the team for the post-season. Even though our record is far short of where it should be at this point in the season, this was a painful learning process that will help us in the long run. As for our college coach, we had to bite our lips to keep from laughing as his statement was hilarious. You had to know the Coach, who was a truly kind and funny gentleman, and his relationship with Buckley. I will never forget that incident as it was one of my funniest memories of college baseball even though the loss was painful at the time. The statement was not uncalled for. It was well deserved. Again, congrats to SK. They won, we lost.
  16. I was reminded of a game back in college where our ace was pitching and the right fielder, Buckley, dropped a routine fly ball in the bottom of the 9th and we lost 2-1. After the game, the Coach said: The headlines tomorrow will read "McClain loses again". He went on to say: "But if I was writing the headlines,it would read, Buckley Makes _ _ _ of Self". In today's game, our ace was pitching and the incredible mental error allowed the winning run to score, so guess what my headline would be for today's game? Congrats to SK on advancing.
  17. SK worked their tails off as the field was under water in the morning. Good job Pioneers!
  18. Doc Morris Wood bat tourney - Ryle looked sharp and junior pitcher JC Collins had his hook working well in earning the shutout. Mark Guttridge had a couple of knocks to lead the Raiders on offense and a lot of other players chipped in with one hit. Lawrence Co. helped us a bit with some costly errors. Unfortunately, it is prom night at Ryle and all but one varsity starter left as the first game ended about 6:45 p.m. I understand that Ryle's JV players stepped up big time and had Simon Kenton tied 4-4 after 6 innings when the game was suspended due to darkness. Great job, Raider JV!!!!!!
  19. Just heard that Ryle's first game is moved back to 3:00. If we win, I would imagine that Coach Roesel will call up JV players since tonight is Prom night.
  20. Ryle's Kirsten Allen threw a perfect game vs. Conner today in the rain at Ryle as the Lady Raiders pounded the Lady Cougars, 6-0. There were several good defensive plays to save the perfect game. Congrats to Kirsten.
  21. I truly felt sorry for Holmes in that they were not able to compete on the field yesterday. I hope they can turn it around. It was a not an enjoyable game.
  22. Ryan Hughes threw a lot of pitches and worked out of some serious jams created by a couple of errors and some BB's to get the complete game shutout. Good clutch hitting by Vince Murray with a double and 2 singles and good hitting and alert base running by Jerrod Babik with a double and single. Nice shot by Micah Foreman to get the game-winning RBI in the bottom of the first. Harkins threw very well for Conner and has good stuff and a live arm.
  23. Ryle is not playing well right now. Congrats to Russell on the good come-from-behind victory. Hopefully, we get to playing the way we can soon.
