I'm sure it was an outstanding effort by every player on both teams. Congrats to CovCath for winning a road game vs. a very good HC squad. I sure like CovCath's chances to take the 9th region crown.

Why wasn't a "T" given to HC on the last play of the game when a HC player grabbed the ball. The refs didn't call a "T" thus giving HC a sixth timeout, and gave HC a chance to stay in the game with five second left.......in the game.....

 

Cov Holy Cross did a nice thing tonight giving the CovCath players parents tickets to the game so they didn't have to stand in line. Class act HC...........

Nice win for the Colonels over a very good HC team. It's tough when 2 of the top 5 teams in the Region have to play in the first round of the districts.

Scruggs lowered his shoulder.

HC scrapped. They had a couple of chances to throw in the towel but did not. That's a tribute to them. It was a battle from start to finish.

 

Steenken his some clutch 3s tonight. Very strong career for him. He was a big asset to HC and is a matchup problem offensively.

Props to the HC administration. I had serious reservations about how the process was going to work when I got there at 5:50 and had about 300+ people in front of me. They did a great job of maintaining order and making sure people did not "cut". It was handled as well as could possibly be handled. Nice job.

I was thinking the exact same thing about Scruggs. If the CCH defenders even took a half step back or fell over... he would have had 3 or more charging calls.

 

Jacobs came back in a big way from the last time these 2 teams met.

 

Young is starting to become "less than soft" in the middle. And Schult is doing a good job of taking the ball to the hole.

 

CCH missed about 5 layups in the first half that killed their momentum.

In reading the rulebook it seems that the delay is proper as long as CCH did not already have the ball and was attempting to throw it in.

Great game! HC won the first half but CCH dominated the third quarter pretty much & HC just couldn't get back in. CCH big men didn't hurt HC like I thought they would. Tierney & Jacobs killed HC off the dribble although Laible did a good job defensively when he was in. CCH forced Busse & Lantry to take the threes in the 4th quarter and really covered up Steenken, Ryan & Sorrell. The stratagy worked well as those two were struggling from beyond the arc. I thought Sorrell gave the Indians a lift when he came in with HC down 37-30. He took it to the basket two straight times, got fouled & hit all 4 free throws. I was surprised he didn't play more down the stretch.

Whenever HC would get up 4 or 6 points, Bovard would come down & hit a big three. I think he did that 3 times. When CCH made their run in the 3rd quarter, Tierney hit two straight unbelievable reverses.

Congratulations to both teams! Good luck CCH. HC was definitely worthy of a regional berth, just a shame they had to play the top team first.

BTW, Erik Goetz did a great job this year as a rookie coach. He has my vote for coach of the year!
