  2. is it at Cordia or at the old Hindman gym? The gym at Cordia school had been condemned and they played their home games at the old Hindman gym the last couple of years.
  3. Offers aside, I think an extra year to get stronger probably has helped him.
  4. Personally I think the extra year was a great move. At his height, that extra strength and maturity will help a ton especially at the D 1 level.
  5. Coach Hurt has taken an assistants job at Hazard. That is confirmed. Not sure on anything else.
  6. Brother to Connor and nephew to Perry Central coach, Shannon Hoskins
  7. Josh Cook is a good, young successful coach. Would be a great hire for GRC if it happens. Transfers or not, the young man is a coach on the rise and has won games everywhere he has been.
  8. Buckhorn has a solid fanbase for a small class A school
  9. Here is the latest line-up: Noon - Buckhorn vs. Iroquois 1:30 - Knott Central vs. Tates Creek 3:00 - Letcher Central vs. Shawnee 4:30 - Perry Central vs. Scott Co. 6:00 - Breathitt Co. vs. Estill Co.
  10. Toughest one on one match-up in the 14th
  11. I wish we(Buckhorn) had performed a little better, but I think our crowd did their part, at least
  12. Perry vs. Hazard on the first friday night of the season. It gets no bigger than this in E Ky.
  13. Matt Day - Buckhorn '12 Senior at UVa-Wise just scored his 1,000th point.
  14. That is very odd in regards to Cordia. They are, clearly, better than 9. I know they are, at this point, ineligible. Either rate them fairly or don't rate them all.
  15. From looking at the KHSAA website, some of the teams have the tournament down as the Republic Bank Classic and some as the Traditional Bank Classic. I am assuming they are, both, the same tournament. Looks like a good mix of teams. Strong mountain presence. Here are the listed teams: LexCath Perry Central Lou. Trinity Henry Clay PLD Lawrence Co Cordia Henderson Co Bullitt Central Buckhorn Ky. Country Day Knott Central Frankfort Western Hills
  16. Right now, they only names I have heard are PRP, Bryan Station, Hopkinsville, Southwestern, Buckhorn and Allatoona, GA ( 5A runner-up from last season). Not sure if that is the complete list or if all those teams are still in.
  17. Won't be an issue with Morgan.
  18. Orginaly, it was a senior game and an underclassmen game, but with so many good players being left out, the Association decided to include a game for each class.
  19. This Sunday at Perry County Central. 8 games in all featuring many of the top talents in each class for boys and girls. The all region teams, Bob Creech Memorial Scholarship winners, Players of the Year, Ira D. Combs 14th Region Coaches of the Year and 2 new members of the Court of Honor will be recognized. This year,Coach Rhett Gibson of Knott County Central and Coach Jack Stanford of Breathitt County will be honored. Games start at 11 am with the freshmen girls game.
  20. Any chance of Jason Holland? He was very successful at Henry and Oldham before moving on to get the shaft ( or so its been said ) at Montgomery despite a 30 win season. Not sure what he is doing now, but I would think he would have a shot.
  21. Don't know anything about Indiana's process. Whatever it is, it seems to be working for them. Sadly in our state, we seem to be de-emphasizing the importance of the game at a time when we should be doing more to emphasize it. The try-outs used to be a two day process when kids could come down and work out for two days and spend a night in the hotel. Kids and coaches could all mingle and get to know each other and it was a big deal. In my opinion, reducing it to a one day deal, really took away alot of the luster from the whole process. Taking away the try-outs altogether( and all spots were not pre-determined, contrary to popular opinion) makes it not much better than any other aau type, johnny come lately all-star game. I realize money is tight, but at this rate, this series is doomed. Taking away try-outs takes away the chance for some kid from a school that didn't make the state tournament or doesn't travel with an aau team to get their shot to make a name for themselves. I've seen it happen. Going to a single panel decision takes that opportunity out of their hands. Some may not care, but I appreciate the history of this series and what it means or meant to high school basketball in this state.
  22. If they sincerley want to see this game die, they are certainly going about it the right way. A sad day for Ky. high school basketball, if any of this is true.
  23. In any sport where there are single elimination championship games, this debate will always be there. You could argue for a handful of teams that they were the best in the state. At the end of the day, the hardware is sitting in a trophy case in Owensboro. They were the best team in the state when it mattered most.
