PurplePride92 Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Looks like this one is open and word is an announcement is coming soon.
mcraycraft Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Would like to know what happened here! WKYT has a story that Humphrey was fired.
LCDAWGS19 Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Hearing things from reliable sources that aren't good.
spindoc Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 Just a gentle reminder, we have another thread about this in the Controversial Issues forum and you can find that here: http://bluegrasspreps.com/controversial-issues/major-10th-region-330308.html#post5999486 Be mindful of rule #9 when posting here.
ConYay Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I've heard that a well known coach from last year's Sweet 16 will be taking over at Clark.
gold sunrise Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Maybe GS can fill us in. Heard it will be Josh Cook of Mercer Co. Cook played one season of basketball at Alice Lloyd College before going into coaching at June Buchanan. He was an assistant for four seasons and the head coach for one season, posting an 18-10 record during the 2008-09 campaign. He then took jobs as an assistant at Knott County Central and Montgomery County before being named head coach at Lawrence County in 2012. He posted a 41-22 record in two seasons there before heading to Mercer County in 2014. The Titans were 23-9 in his first season. http://usatodayhss.com/2016/mercer-countys-cook-voted-c-j-coach-of-the-year

Oldercoach Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Wow, if this is true, without knowing anything else about the situation I find this hard to swallow, especially if I was a Mercer Co fan with this happening at this time of the year. This old-timer was around in the days that teacher/coaches signed a binding contract for the year by July 1, and it would be very problematic to unilaterally try to move schools. Schools could fire for cause, or to chose to allow a resignation; however any teachr/coach movement without a release would be almost impossible. Has something changed to allow coaches free movement this late?
Bluechipper14 Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Cook would be an asset to the 10th Region. Hard to see him leaving for GRC
daybyday Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Cook is a teacher. Would have to get out of contract. Being a coach doesn't make you exempt from the contracts unles you are a paraprofessional. He is not. Doubt he could get out if contract at this point.

Some will release you and others will not. I would say this has already been worked out.
AnonymousCoach Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Cook is a teacher. Would have to get out of contract. Being a coach doesn't make you exempt from the contracts unles you are a paraprofessional. He is not. Doubt he could get out if contract at this point. When I was a teacher, there was an out clause for either the teacher or the school system to terminate the contract within the first two weeks of school starting.
daybyday Posted August 14, 2016 Posted August 14, 2016 Date to get out of contract is July 1 now. After that must be released by superintendent. If they say no then certification can get revoked by ESPB. That rarely happens unless it's an habitual contract breaker. Mercer can choose to not let him out of contract. Will be interesting to see if this is true...I think it's just people stirring the rumor pot. NoT sure he would leave a future Mr. Basketball.
