Date to get out of contract is July 1 now. After that must be released by superintendent. If they say no then certification can get revoked by ESPB. That rarely happens unless it's an habitual contract breaker. Mercer can choose to not let him out of contract. Will be interesting to see if this is true...I think it's just people stirring the rumor pot. NoT sure he would leave a future Mr. Basketball.

Cook is a teacher. Would have to get out of contract. Being a coach doesn't make you exempt from the contracts unles you are a paraprofessional. He is not. Doubt he could get out if contract at this point.

Sources are wrong Penny will never come to Mercer although Gillis is at Mercer now. Trevon and Penny not even on same AAU teams this summer.

Mercer went 19-4 without Davis or Dow this summer. These kids love Cook and if you want to run through the wall for your coach good things will happen. This season doesn't rely on 1 player for Mercer Does it help....absolutely ....

Mercer Co is there as well as Lawrence Co. Not sure if they play one another. Could be an interesting game. Hearing great things about how Mercer Co is looking. Heard some players have really upped their game and that Cook has them looking good and playing confident.

Congrats! My son ran on that relay team for Mercer. It was his first year running track. We hope to make a run at it again next year. Exciting race!

Great hire by Mercer. They will actually have offensive sets this season and be disciplined which was something lacking in Britts tenure. Excited to see this team grow.

Problem #1. Mercer was underrated all year. Their players play harder thAn anyone in the region. Period.....not the most talented team but has a huge heart and motor! PROBLEM#2 never underestimate your opponent! #3 Mercer has talent! Talent now and next year and the year after! THEY WERE LED BY A FRESHMAN TONIGHT! AND the sophomore class is talented as well...

I think if you look at mercer's schedule you will see they only lost to Anderson (whom is ranked 2 or 3 depending on the poll) by 3 and lost to Sacred heart by 10. Cassidy Martin would put up those numbers for ANY team. If you haven't seen her play you need to check her out. She transfered from Tennessee to Mercer due to a job change. With the addition of her and the returning players Mercer has become one of the favorites instead of rebuilding. Souder always plays a schedule that gets his players ready for post season...I heard last week that Martin has already broke some records at Mercer in her first year...

yes, the KHSAA changed the rule to allow high school sports to work on skills, and practice year round. In hopes of cutting back on the AAU/club play. At the same time this has caused high school sports to never take a break (except for dead period) and now more than ever encourages student athletes to play 1 sport. The old rule forced kids to play AAU...because they couldn't practice with high school teams. Now we have just forced kids to choose between AAU/club and school sports. Just last week one of our players missed a school basketball game to go play club soccer out of town. Most kids will choose the club/AAu becuase of the travel and experience. My son is a 3 sport athlete he goes to speed/agility workouts in the morning at 6:00 am (3 days a week), he then lifts during school in a class (4 days a week), and then goes to basketball practice after school. He is an average high school athlete but committs to these to stay on the field/court. I know the KHSAA has thought about extending the dead period and I am all for this. My son is a 4.0 student that has NEVER missed or sat out of a practice in any sport since starting middle school sports. Now with ACTscores and GPA and AP courses his stress level is at a max. I know he is not the only athlete out there feeling this way. I have told him to give up a sport but he refuses because he enjoys all 3. I just hate seeing a 16 year old so stressed at this age. He doesn't want to let any coach or team down. I am for the old rule that KHSAA had with school sports with what they allowed and did not allow. That way a kid could choose to play AAA/Club to get better and if they do (which we do as well) you can atleast choose to sit a weekend out or sit out a practice. With this new rule the kids feel stressed and pressured if they miss the smallest school work out.

Don't know anything about basketball sounds like that shouldn't have happened. I agree that Robbins and Hoskins are great players, game changers and am looking forward to the future of these 2 teams. I agree that Mercer still has a ways to go especially in believing they can win. I understand two different philosphys on the playing of kids down some coaches will and some won't risk injury and your right about if Davis got hurt ...and from what I was told by a coach that is a good friend of mine Sparrow does not take snaps at all anymore and hasnt in a long time and he does not practice JV either. I know that for a fact because Smith takes the snaps at JV practice according to my son. Sparrow plays scout team during varsity practice. But I was also told that Robbins takes no snaps at all either so that is a testament to both of those players. Your right sour grapes....I don't deny it......but i do see the tide turning, its slow but it is turning...I just hope it turns a little faster.

Just clarified Robbins and hoskins played all JV games this year. Mercer doesnt play varsity players down.

Oh....and mercer could have played all their freshman and sophomores down....and they win. Hmmmm

Not true Robbins and Hoskins played against Mercer when they beat them last game and Mercer had 000000 kids playing that get significant minutes. AND mercers qb will not be varsity qb ....he was a fill in. Sorry Boyle your reign is almost over better enjoy a JV championship.

Yes it was exciting and came down to the wire. Hoskins and Robbins sealed the game at the end. Hats off to Mercer playing without 5 starters due to injury and losing a key player to a concussion during the game. Only 1 Mercer player has any varisty experience and that is very little. Quarterback Sparrow has changed positions and does not take a snap or a QB rep at all during the week. Just goes to the JV game and plays. He had a good game especially defensively. Had he not been subbed out on the corner they would not have gotten the last TD. Ford showed that he just needs a whole and you won't catch him. Mercers young kids know that they can compete in the future and believe they can win. Which is something the varsity struggles with. Mercer did not play Davis down nor any sophomore that plays minutes varsity, such as Peavler and Bradshaw only spot played... . Will be a fun next few years. Do you know how many players Bolye played down that get significant minutes other than Robbins and Hoskins?

Central had more athletes. Mercer more discipline and better coaching. Sophomore QB with great potential and a great tailback with a great surrounding cast. Central was senior dominated and lacked discipline. Future for Titans is bright.

Smith only played first half. Mercer played 2nd half with Dylan French as QB No fresh team for Mercer. The fresh class is low in numbers....

Plus with the Sparrow now starting QB for varsity Mercer won with players that have not played Qb ever or at least in a long time. Sparrow was Qb all through middle school and last year. So a very good showing in the situation handed to them.

I believe the Davis kid is out with an injury. Mercer is definately one too watch for in the next couple of years with Davis and Hager as well as Austin Sparrow and Russell Sims. Their guard play should be some of the best in the 12th if they continue to develop.

Jaggers has great football knowledge and experience but he burned a lot of bridges.... ...Jaggers is not what Mercer needs. I could see someone like Don Miller, or Jerry Perry doing a great job.

Phil Rison is a finalist for the Mercer County Superintendent Job....per their webiste....

Penny takes good shots and is very disciplined. He could have scored whenever he wanted. He does a good job of staying in Drurys offense and letting the game come to him. Patterson and Yeast did an excellant job for such a mismatch. Mercer played good weakside help also. From talking to people at the game Penny was not feeling well either....a very quiet 21 points....he passed a lot of shots up...He is a D1 talent but what level D1 who knows....Mercer can make a run but substitution pattens must get better.

As a Scott County parent I can tell you that rules have been broken. My son has "laced" up his shoes and went to work for several years. Sacrificing much along the way-just like all athletes do.I know my sons ability. Had the transfers not came he would have received playing time this season. I know the transfers are better than my son. I don't argue that. What is frustrating to the "basketball family" is that this was not done legally. Also, since they have transfered in the "all stars" are now the only ones that get individual workouts. All other kids are pushed to the side. Not even allowed to stay in the gym during these individual workouts. These players also eat there lunch in Coach Hicks office..it is brought to them by coaches. There is already a division on the team. We will have the talent but we won't get the job done. it will be just like the year we had Haddix, Walls, and Mackey....not enough basketball to go around....bad chemistry....and placing blame on one another...it has already started. The big question around the state is why not 2 schools in Scott County? Well, the community is ready for 2 schools. We WANT 2 schools. But winning at all cost is placed first in every sport in Scott County. The spring sports received sanctions earlier for rules violations. We do like to win but it is time that we win with Scott County kids.
