Anderson beats Mercer 65-62. Mercer missed a 3 pointer at the buzzer to tie. Mercer led the entire game until about 3 minutes to go in the 4th quarter.

IMO, this was a terribly officiated game not only for Mercer but also Anderson. No home cooking here just terrible refereeing.

Sorry, not familiar with the 8th region officials. One of them has been reffing for a long time and looked to be about 65 years old or so. Big game such as this deserved better officials.

Wasn't able to make last night's game but a friend said turnovers were again a problem for Mercer, and he agreed with always a scottie the refs were terrible. Any comments on Penny from Anderson is he the real deal for D1?

mercer is only a guard away from making a deep run in the 12th region..sounds like a good game congrats to anderson

I didn't think guard play was the issue. Again, it was freethrow shooting and IMO substitution patterns.

When I saw them play they had good shooters just no floor general. Good point also free throw shooting can kill a team. Who matched up with Penny?

McRay is supposed to be the point guard/floor general. He is doing a decent job in his roll. Patterson was matched against Penny and that was a total mismatch. He actually did a good job of guarding him for the most part. IMO, Penny is a very good high school player but as far as D1.... I don't know.

IMO, Penny has the body for D1 but I am not for sure that he has the skills. He was guarded all night by 5'8 Patterson and then 5'10 Jordon Yeast (football player) and he did not dominate. Penny should have dominated the game with these 2 players guarding him. Penny ended up 23 points or so but most were due to runout layups and not any particular shooting or post moves. I was not impressed with performance.

I actually was very impressed with Penny's play. He is a very unselfish player and really looked to pass first. Yes, Yeast and Patterson were guarding him, but everytime he drove Mercer would collapse down.

Penny takes good shots and is very disciplined. He could have scored whenever he wanted. He does a good job of staying in Drurys offense and letting the game come to him. Patterson and Yeast did an excellant job for such a mismatch. Mercer played good weakside help also. From talking to people at the game Penny was not feeling well either....a very quiet 21 points....he passed a lot of shots up...He is a D1 talent but what level D1 who knows....Mercer can make a run but substitution pattens must get better.
